His Life

Obituary

December 27, 2015

Peter Paul Kuck, 81, of Hartheim, Germany, formerly of Plymouth, Minnesota, died peacefully at home in the early morning hours of Friday December 11th. Born in Vussem, Germany, he was the third of five children of Hubert and Franziska Kuck.

After high-school his love of languages took him to London, England, where he met his future wife Thi-Hanh Nguyen. He began his career in Essen, at the Wies Company.  His language skills, combined with his love of travel and his way with people brought him to TURCK Multiprox Inc., where he started his career as Export Manager, and soon was promoted to President of the newly created American subsidiary in Plymouth, MN.  His career as Chief Executive included time at the helm of SICK Inc. in Minneapolis, another industrial sensor manufacturer with headquarters in Waldkirch, Germany, that introduced him to the beauty of the area that became his final home.

Peter was an avid stamp collector.  He loved to share his passion for history, serving as a tour guide for friends and family and he was a dedicated genealogy researcher. He was a valued volunteer and a long-time board member of the Bad Krozingen Cardio Exercise Group, where he found many friends. Throughout his life he saw the potential in people and took a risk to give someone a real chance for success, and thus left a positive impression on so many lives.  He could be a real German Sauerkraut, but was generous to a fault.  He often helped others in ways that he did not even help himself.

He leaves his wife, Thi-Hanh Kuck of 57 years, his daughters Pia Banzhaf of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, and Irene Kuck of East Hampton, CT; and their husbands Wolfgang Banzhaf and Stuart Winquist; and his grandchildren Teresa Banzhaf, Benedikt Banzhaf, Sofia Banzhaf, Tristan Winquist and Emilia Winquist.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 18th in Hartheim, Germany, at the St. Peter and Paul Church. At his request, his ashes will be scattered in the river Rhine in a private ceremony.

Donations can be made in Peter’s memory by visiting his personal donation page at “Doctors without Borders.”

"Life crept out of your extremities and fled to collect round your heart while something gentle and precious snuggled in close at the centre of your being . . .  you were happy now, able to respond by long confident dream strides that carried you effortlessly towards the enchantment of the plains below."
