I’ve known Phil for over 55 years. We first met when trying out for a local talent contest at the Fairborn Theater when we were about 15. He was playing bass guitar with a local band called the Ramblin Rebels and I was there to sing by myself. The person that was staging the contest decided he wanted to combine me with the band and I would do the vocals. We started playing together and traveling to local teen dances in the area. After winning the Fairborn contest, and the regional one, we wound up winning the State contest in Cincinnati. It was televised and was a pretty big deal at the time. The first prize was a mink cape. After they let me wear it to Prom, we sold it and split the money. The band was a fond memory that Phil carried all of his life. He was the band member that actually made a living playing music. He actually arranged a gathering of all this Spring in Fairborn.. it was a wonderful time!
