Sergeant Major Phillip R. Albert, U.S. Army, age 41, former Terryville resident, died Sunday, (November 23, 2003) in an Air Force Helicopter crash in Afghanistan. Sgt. Major Albert was born in Southington on August 21, 1962 and was a son of Germaine (Deschaine) Albert of Plainville and the late Walter R. Albert. He has served in the United States Army for the past 22 years after joining the military at the age of 18. He served in the Gulf War in 1991 and was on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan taking part in Operation Mountain Resolve. He was with the 10th Mountain Division, stationed at Fort Drum, NY. His awards and decorations include two Bronze Star Medals and the Purple Heart Medal. In addition to his mother, Sgt. Major Albert is survived by three brothers and a sister-in-law, Camille Albert, Donald and Jocelyn Albert, and Richard Albert, all of Bristol; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Joan Vallee of Plainville, Nancy and Thomas Rama of Bristol, Rinette and Emile Pelletier of Middletown, and Judy and Lucien Lebel of Kensington; two aunts and an uncle, Priscilla and Thomas Cyr, and Stella LaChance; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
