My memories of Philo go back to our time working together at AOL, Dublin. Philo and I both worked at opposite ends of Floor 9 in the Heuston building. We were both early risers and so would get into the office before 8am most mornings. Often we were the only two people in the office at that time of the day and we would have loud conversations sitting at our desks across the floor with the automatic ceiling lights solely illuminated over our respective desks. I remember it fondly as our nice little shared moment when we felt like slightly naughty school children left alone in the class without a teacher :-) Philo was generous of her time and like many people I often went to her when I needed help with my Mac, hoping to repay her in some way with Jamon Serrano on visits back from Spain. If the most important things we can do as people are positively impact those we leave behind and leave fond memories, then I can say without a doubt that Philo Taig had a truly awesome life.

I had the honor of sitting beside Philo in Brunel for a few years and working with her on different projects. She was utterly dedicated to her work and colleagues - selflessly giving her time to help others - always. She was such a genuine person - no falseness and no BS. Philo was also a creative soul. Her chilli beef was out of this world - absolutely melt in your mouth with a nice kick at the end - delicious. She taught me how to make home made Xmas garlands for my desk through the art of paper cutting when I was trying to win the ‘Dec Your Desk’ competition. I don’t have the patience that Philo had and ended up buying cheap tat in the Dealz store instead! In an office environment where a pen and paper are considered retro - Philo’s desk was a rare treat. It had all sorts of quirky little memorabilia and was a stationery treasure chest lol. Fancy paper clips and glittery gold pens galore. I am glad I have these memories of quirky, warm, smart, patient, genuine, kind Philo. I will miss her.

I first met Philo back in the late 1990's when we worked together in Berlitz in Blackrock. She was a joyful can caring person who loved life and loved to laugh. She was such a great friend and even after we left that role we continued to be friends and catch up each year at Christmas when we could. She will be missed. RIP Philo from Morgan, Kim and Andrew.

Philo you was a really such a nice person, college, friend. I had honor to work with you. We will all miss you.
But you left the very important message for everyone, that where we live is not the place for ever. We just need to keep in mind.

I don't think I have a memory of Philo where she was not smiling. She was truthfully one of those people that always lightened the days of those she would cross paths with.
She will be missed.

We spent so many years together on different projects, always so dedicated to her work. She always added few jokes to the scrum meetings every now and then which we found great. We'll miss you a lot.

I will remember Philo as someone with great warmth and kindness who always offered help and advice without hesitation or request. She will be fondly remembered and, at the same time, greatly missed.

Her Life

There only ever was, or will be, One Philo Taig...

March 7, 2019

Philo has been a vibrant member of the AOL Dublin teamfor over twenty years and even while ill, continued to work until just a few weeks ago. Philo, originally from Hong Kong, moved to Dublin in 1995 and joined Netscape after finishing college in the UK - she grew with the company over the years from a Localisation Engineer to Principal Software Engineer with the One Adserver team. Philo was renowned for her commitment, work ethic and persistence as well as her kindness and thoughtfulness. She had deep ties with the Adtech team in Dreieich, working with them for the last 10 years.

Outside of work, Philo had many interests, she loved to cook, and was particularly famous for her slow cooked chilli beef and banana bread, which she shared with her work family. Philo's attempts at cider making were less successful (which turned out to be very mediocre apple juice) but that never deterred her from trying new methods and recipes. Throughout her life Philo loved music, she played piano and even took up the guitar just three years ago. Philo was an avid concert goer and could always be found in the mosh pit, staying away from the action was not what Philo was about. Philo once got the opportunity to coach David Bowie on how to perfect his pronunciation for the Mandarin version of “Seven Years in Tibet” (she has a signed copy hanging proudly at home).

Philo was an amazing person and skilled engineer, she will be truly missed by everyone that crossed her path. We will always remember her mischievous dry wit, her beautiful smile, how she was quiet and unassuming never seeking the spotlight, always thinking of other people and going out of her way to help when she could.

On behalf of the Dublin team and Philo's many friends, our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her husband Martyn and family at this time.
