Her Life

There only ever was, or will be, One Philo Taig...

March 7, 2019

Philo has been a vibrant member of the AOL Dublin teamfor over twenty years and even while ill, continued to work until just a few weeks ago. Philo, originally from Hong Kong, moved to Dublin in 1995 and joined Netscape after finishing college in the UK - she grew with the company over the years from a Localisation Engineer to Principal Software Engineer with the One Adserver team. Philo was renowned for her commitment, work ethic and persistence as well as her kindness and thoughtfulness. She had deep ties with the Adtech team in Dreieich, working with them for the last 10 years.

Outside of work, Philo had many interests, she loved to cook, and was particularly famous for her slow cooked chilli beef and banana bread, which she shared with her work family. Philo's attempts at cider making were less successful (which turned out to be very mediocre apple juice) but that never deterred her from trying new methods and recipes. Throughout her life Philo loved music, she played piano and even took up the guitar just three years ago. Philo was an avid concert goer and could always be found in the mosh pit, staying away from the action was not what Philo was about. Philo once got the opportunity to coach David Bowie on how to perfect his pronunciation for the Mandarin version of “Seven Years in Tibet” (she has a signed copy hanging proudly at home).

Philo was an amazing person and skilled engineer, she will be truly missed by everyone that crossed her path. We will always remember her mischievous dry wit, her beautiful smile, how she was quiet and unassuming never seeking the spotlight, always thinking of other people and going out of her way to help when she could.

On behalf of the Dublin team and Philo's many friends, our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her husband Martyn and family at this time.
