Dear Mom,

You are the best friend I ever had or will have. Not that I don’t have great friends it is just that we could always talk about anything and everything and sometimes only a mother will do.

You were always strict but just. If I ever did something I shouldn’t have I could always come and tell you. There most likely be some form of punishment but there was always hugs, kisses and forgiveness. Most of all there was always LOVE.

My best memory of you and me was the summer of 1969 when I was 13 because that is when I remember that you started talking with me as a person and not a child. It felt like a turning point in my life and that is when I felt that you were also my friend. I miss our discussions about religion, politics, relationships or family. Not that we didn’t have our disagreements, because we did not always agree. But we agreed to disagree be we each had a valid point.

I especially remember our Saturday shopping trips. I enjoyed every minute of time we spent together. We would go to breakfast then one of the malls, Kmart or the drug store and after that the grocery store. I remember telling you on one of these outings that I was worried that you were going to pass away before I was ready for you to go. You said “You will be ready because I have prepared you for my passing”. You know you were right because I didn’t fall apart when you were gone. That doesn’t mean that it don’t miss you because there are days when I just want to call and talk to you.

It has been almost 20 years now and I am glad that you no longer suffer pain or health issues. I know that you are in the garden with Jesus.

Love always your loving daughter,
Donna
