Hi Aunt Tillie!
I'm just sharing what I sent out to the family. Thank you for always bein there for us.

Howdy!
So on this the 9th anniversary of Aunt Tillie's passing, I came across the attached and thought of how many times she hopped on a bus in NYC and arrived at the Ocean City bus terminal. She did it to visit us at "the farm" as she called it. I remember that some times I was the lucky one to ride along with Mother & Daddy to pick her up at the bus station.

Aunt Tillie brought so much Joy with her and made us feel so special because she was always present when visiting. Sometimes she would regale us with stories of her travels around the country or across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe or Africa. Other times she would be there to listen as we told her about what we were doing in school or so many of our aspirations.

The one thing I remember her saying, at least once whenever she visited was, "Lord Willing". She would say it right before she told us about another one of her plans to do something or go somewhere. Her Faith carried her through her whole Life and we are all the better off for it. Thank you Aunt Tillie for continuing to Bless us so we too can have a positive impact on those we meet along our journeys.
Love,
 Joe&y

Even though I never had the honor of meeting you I feel that I got to know you through Joe's stories. I still have the thank you card that you sent when I sent you the red sweater. It made my heart feel so good when Joe sent the picture of you wearing the sweater. I am sure that you are in heaven with all the other angels like you.

Good Morning Aunt Tillie!
As I woke this morning, I thought of receiving the call at 9:50 a.m. eight years ago, that you had passed on to your reward. You had a long earthly journey that Blessed so many. You left so many positive memories and lessons. As I prepare to go about my day, I will be sure to carry your work ethic and love of Life with me in all that I do. Thank you for being there for all of us each and every day for that is surely one of our daily Blessings.
Love,
 Joe&y

Happy 110th Birthday Aunt Tillie! What a day it has been reflecting on your love of travel. I remember one time when our family drove up to NYC to see you off on one of your cruises. Back then we were allowed to go onboard and attend your going away party. :) I think it may have been your trip to Europe in 1967. Your passport shows you visited Southampton October 5th, Dover October 9th, Geneve October 12th and France October 21st. It is one of five passport books you gave me. Oh, the adventures you must have had. I'll attach the first photo from the first passport I have. It's dated October 27th, 1957. I have another photo of you and remember you telling me it was while you were in Montreal, Canada in 1948. You said it was a beautiful city and that I should visit it one day, including the underground city which is the largest underground city in the world. Maybe your memories are why I've always wanted to visit there. Thank you again Aunt Tillie for your Love of Life and all of your support of the family.
Love,
 Joe&y

Hi Aunt Tillie!
Such calming words to me remembering and feeling them as I said them to you so many times over the phone. Hearing you respond, "Hi Joe&y!" always made me smile. Tonight I lit two candles in your honor because I couldn't decide between them. :) Caramel Apple & Leaves. Both reminded me of simple fall days relaxing and feeling Blessed.

Yesterday and today have been filled with so many simple and calming shared moments and the memories they created. As I go through some physical challenges, I feel you close knowing that with all tests and the path to wellness is based on what you said so often - "God Willing". Knowing that, I will do my part and trust in the outcome. Thank you for being there for all of us on a daily basis.
Love,
 Joe&y

Blessings Aunt Tillie! How wonderful to know that you are there and here at the same time. As you know, our planet has been in need of uplifting spirits as we continue to battle through this pandemic. I feel stronger as we continue to fight this one because I know you were only 6 years old when the last pandemic began and ran from February 1918 to April 1920. Over 1/3 of the worlds population were affected and over 50 million died, including 675,000 Americans. As of today, there have been 5.2 million deaths, including over 800,000 Americans. I saw that the wearing of masks was so important in helping to prevent the extinction of mankind. They have paid a pivotal role in our battle as well and then the God-given guidance to create the vaccines have all been a major blessing. Let's pray and hope this pandemic can end before the official two year mark which is rapidly approaching as of March 11.

I think of the chances of your surviving so young and what your parents went through to keep you alive and then Aunt Mari and then Mother who was born in the middle of it in 1919. The strength of character of all of you is beyond measure. You continued to carry that strength of character with you throughout a lifetime of challenges from World War I to the depression to
World War II and on and on. Through it all you wore your Faith and expressed it so often by saying, "God Willing."

I am grateful to have shared so many conversations with you and have so many memories to look back on which showed how your Faith had brought you through so many circumstances. As a matter of fact, the older you became and the more trials you came through, the stronger you Faith and expression of it. I am forever grateful for it and it has simply become the way I Live this Life that I was blessed with and am experiencing. On this anniversary of your birth, I wish you a Heavenly Birthday and smile once again as I hear your voice saying, "Hi Joe&y! How are you?" Thank you for the Blessings Aunt Tillie!!!
Love,
 Joe&y

I so remember saying that so many times over the years as we began another of our calls. There are so many pleasant memories that have been touching so many of us over the last year. We're sorry for having to call on you so frequently this last year with so many things going on, but we know you not just survived, but flourished after so many challenges during your time here on earth. Thank you for always remembering us and being there with a kind word or memory as we travel our paths.

Hi Aunt Tillie,
I can't thank you enough for all the times the past year that you have been there for me. Whether it was a simple memory of a quick pop-in visit and sharing a simple meal of spicy chicken wings from the KFC downtown or Chinese food from down at the corner, just being able to catch up in person was always so worth it to me.
You calmed me other times when I stopped in at White House Subs and brought one up to you and we were able to just sit and enjoy those first bites. :) I was fortunate to have a couple of them including in March.
Your visits here with Cretia and Cousin Bill brought a smile to my face a number of times this year as I thought of the three of you relaxing and sharing stories up there. Thank you for it all and knowing that you are always there for all of us is provides a relaxing comfort. I lit a candle for you tonight and am enjoying the Peace. Until....
Love,
 Joe&y

My Friend

April 25, 2015

We first met Aunt Tillie in the 1990s at our home in New Jersey, when she would come to our picnics with Cretia, Star and some other family members.  Little did we know the blessings that were in store for us by coming to know Aunt Tillie.  Her warmth and understanding were priceless.  She understood everything perfectly, and would give advice that portrayed her wisdom.

We kept in touch independently of the visits by becoming pen pals.  She was truly a pleasure to write to and share things with, and she would show such appreciation just at the sound of your voice or at the receipt of a letter.  Aunt Tillie valued and appreciated every single thing on this earth.

She taught us many things just by being Aunt Tillie....we always liked one of her favorite phrases, "All in God's time."  We used to laugh and chuckle at the human condition, where we make plans, but then God has His own plan.  She had a way of putting things in perspective.  By the end of the conversation, Aunt Tillie had a way of soothing your soul and having you become much better for it.

May her laugh and sweet voice stay in the echo of our hearts forevermore.  Aunt Tillie, thank you for allowing me to call you friend.  You are forever missed.

With love,
Phyllis, Pete, Carolyn, Andy and Mike

A Transistor Radio

April 23, 2015

At age 8 I awoke on Christmas morning in Petersburg New Jersey.  Visiting for the holidays was my Aunt Tillie.  As we were opening presents I came upon a box that was kinda heavy.  The note on the box said Merry Christmas from Aunt Tillie.
As I opened the box I noticed it was a transistor radio!  I put the 9 volt battery in and listened non stop all day to music.  I however was puzzled about how I could hear a band play a song at 11am and then that same band be heard at 4:00pm at the radio station playing the same song?  My Dad explained that it was a record and not a live band running from station to station!  Kinda silly but it was this little radio that launched my love of music and sports.  That love lead to having my own radio show in my sophmore year of high school, becoming a sports and newscaster for a CBS affiliate in Atlantic City, interviewing Governors, Senators Hall of Fame baseball players, hosting telethons and for years being the Voice that people heard when they called the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood Florida.  Aunt Tillie sensed that a little boy could touch thousands as a man.  I thank God for placing her in my life journey.  Love forever Nephew Jimmy.
