Dear P,

Already 10 years! And it doesn't seem like that, because I think of you really often, and for so many different reasons...
Meeting you and living in your house has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life, and I am so grateful for the time spent together!

With love,

Prior to writing this note I took the opportunity once again to read the many remembrances. Inspiring.

I knew Phyllis through Loren, whom I've known since childhood, and was always moved by the joy that emanated from them as a couple. May the fond memories of Phyllis continue to sustain Loren, her children and family, and all those whose lives she enriched.

I have been thinking about Phyllis a lot lately. She was such an amazing human and I could spend all day listening to her and her philosophy of life. I am for sure a better person for knowing her. She was a beautiful soul. Thinking of her and holding her family in my thoughts.

The eagle we named Phyllis and her partner are now seen readying their nest in anticipation of new life this spring. We remember Phyllis with love and gratitude for her kind and strong example. She continues to be a blessing to the universe.

Dear Phyllis, On January 23, 2018 my friend Don, died of ALS- a long and slow loss of all functions. He was a determined spirit and at the end still using his thumb to text -speak. Like you he approached his illness with a warmth and an open heart. Along with my grief for him was an acute sense of the loss of you - my dear sweet friend. I remembered your bravery, your kindness, and in my mind turn to you for guidance.

Don was still telling jokes on his way out of the world. He will add wonderful energy to the cosmos.

You are ever with me. I miss you

Yet another poem inspired by our beloved friend:

in memoriam Phyllis Kutt 1947-2012

The full moon brings her back.
Each month, we watch her,
the moon drummer now,
rising out of the sea.
Carrying the frame drum moon,

she dances all night across the sky—
a kiss in passing for Cassiopeia,
a kiss of silvery light for us,
her lovers, standing on the shore
where her shimmering path beckons.

We turn our faces to her
just as we always did.
We step into her reflection,
float on waves of her light,
just as we always have.

      with love,

I loved going to Aunt Phyllis house as a child. There was always a warm smile and a gentle hug. She always welcomed everyone into her home in the same manner. Her sense of humor made me laugh and smile still this many years later as I remember things she would say and do. I am fortunate enough to spend time with her children and grandchildren whom reminds me of her in so many ways! Miss you Aunt P, but I am blessed I get to receive the same love from Holly and Chad every time I see them. Love you!

I pause today to remember a great friend. We had so many wonderful conversations, laughs, meals, and experiences together. Nothing can replace those times but the memories remain a source of support and comfort to me. I send love and continued strength to Loren, Holly, Chad and his fine family, and the many friends who will always miss Phyllis.

I stare as someone walks in front of me, straight and tall, someone with your poise and grace who reminds me of you.
I hear your warm and contagious laughter from a woman who sounds like you.
I watch as yet another walks towards me, someone with your beauty and likeness.
They bring you back and I rejoice as I watch and listen and I say, "Hi, P."

Last Friday at the Shivabalayogi retreat, during med., I had a distinct hit of P s presense, more distilled and potent. She seemed to be meditating right beside me as she did in 2012, only more adept.Later I mentioned the feeling to Mryganka, S s translator. She said" Phyllis was unique, and was the greatest human being I have ever met."I got chills as she said it...Peter Kutt

I had her my sophomore year at HHS and she was such a sweet spirited woman. I checked an email account yesterday that i hadnt checked in about 6 years. I found a few emails from her; A few asking how i had been and one telling me that her cancer had returned. I immediately responded praying that everything was alright. Then I found out she passed :( She will always be missed and remembered

NIGHT WALK (new poem; I didn't know at first it would be about P.)

I walk alone accompanied
by winter’s bright stars
that may be dead by now
their light still coming to us.

Are you out there, released
from the body into star stuff
lighting my way
in the indifferent dark?

Today I am thinking of my sweet, kind, and wise friend Phyllis, and all those people whose lives were transformed by her being.
Last year, 2012 on this day I was driving home to N C after leaving P and family when I saw this beautiful GREEN SHOOTING STAR
Pass across my windshield. The time was 8:24 pm...

An awesome spectre greets the soul,
Strangers entranced by powers
Unmet but not unknown.
A meteor of light to one who walks so well in the dark.
Alluring, invisible precipice so long at my side,
Now seen,
Now understood.
The light moves out over the infinite.

I continue to think of Phyllis so much. In my meditation corner, I keep the beautiful card she painted near the candles, and I invite her beautiful, peaceful, and inspiring spirit to help guide me. I think of her when I read a wonderful book, when I read Mary Oliver's new book of poetry, when I hear opera, when I laugh at something really offbeat...and during the election. love, peace

As Phyllis' teacher for two years in 1957-59 during which she was a key student-assistant in a classroom ranging from 32 to 42 students, with reading levels spanning 10 years I devised a reading program in the second year using student group leaders enabling us to achieve a 11/2 years average growth in that second year.
It would not have been possible without Phyllis!

I think of you and your mom very often. Truly all I have met in your family, are wonderful people. I think of you Phyllis every day when I look at the Irish soap dish you got me long ago. I have it on my kitchen sink :)
I also miss your mom so very much. She was very special to me. I hope you both are with Jan and having lots of laughs. Until I see you all again.

I am sorry to say I am just finding out about this sad news now.

Ms. Kutt was my homeroom teacher at Lawrence School.

It is a familiar trope to say that teachers leave an indelible impression on their students but in reality this is only true for a very select and special few. Ms. Kutt was one of those teachers for me. Ms. Kutt was very supportive of my weird childhood obsession with opera and was the first person to point me towards the Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde which she loved. That led to my life-long obsession with Richard Wagner.

No doubt there are countless other former pupils whose lives have been similarly shaped by this unique woman.

The eagles have landed

Shared by Lenore Maroney on August 10, 2013

I miss you, Phyllis, especially when I hear the beat of drums. I expect you to be turning up soon to sit across or next to me in a drum circle at Omega.

Your presence is here, however, at Tale of the Hawk Farm.  Last year two eagles landed in a pine tree across from Omega's beach but on our farm.  We named the female after you and the male after another friend who died in February. So these two bald eagles, Phyllis & Phil, built a nest together in 2012 and stayed awhile and then flew away.

But,...this year in January 2013 they returned.  Their white heads and tails were whiter because they were 5 years old now and mature. We watched them add on to the previous year's nest, making it bigger.  Then, Phyllis sat and sat and sat very patiently while Phil flew in and brought meals.  On Easter Sunday, March 31st, 2013 she had a boy and a girl eaglet.  We visited the nest almost every day. Now, the eaglets are larger than their parents and can fly and hunt on their own,  but Phyllis is still watching over them and us.
