Albert Einstein once said: "Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value." When Elizabeth became the Queen, in 1952, Prince Philip's career as a Naval officer came to an end. As well as his ambition to be in the Admiralty.

Yet, for almost 80 years, he was Queen Elizabeth's "rock". On their golden wedding anniversary in 1997, the Queen praised his devotion, saying: "He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years."

What a great model he was to all of us.

The U.K. and the world were fortunate to have this Prince of a man for 99 years. Let's hope the world can learn from his example of a purposeful life of dedicated service.

A short tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip who embodied the qualities of a Scot, but born on a Greek Isle. My sympathy to his family and all who were close to him over his 99 years.
