I was literally doing an internet search a few minutes ago when I saw this site.
This is shocking and I offer my sincere condolences to Professor Taiwo Adewole's family.
I met the then Dr. Adewole in March 1999 when I went to NIMR in Yaba after my UCH housemanship seeking opportunities to do research. He very quickly overcame his initial concerns about my lack of experience and enthusiastically took me under his wing. He taught me old style PCR using water baths. He was a role model for appropriate technology, connecting his equipment to a wide range of stabilizers and electrical transformers to ensure that experiments kept going even in the midst of power failure. I learnt the molecular biology of both malaria and prenatal sickle cell diagnosis under his tutelage. He took me along to Dr. Emuveyan's clinic in Surulere where prenatal diagnosis was being done. He introduced me to his PhD trainees working in the Molecular Biology Study Group, now Dr. Olukosi and Dr. Iwalokun. He told very interesting stories and was exceeding proud of his two sons and told me the eldest Dokun had just been admitted to Lincoln University.
I kept in touch after I got to the US and I followed his career as he moved on to LAUTECH, but we had lost touch for several years.
I still treasure the time I spent with him, albeit too brief, and have proudly listed him on my CV ever since.
He was a great man and will be greatly missed.

We'll always remember that special smile, that caring heart, that warm embrace, you always gave us. You being there for us, through good and bad times, no matter what. We'll always remember you Daddy because they'll never be another one to replace you in our hearts, and the love we will always have for you. As we look back over time. We find ourselves wondering... Did we remember to thank you enough for all you have done for us? For all the times you were by our sides to help and support us... To celebrate our successes, to understand our problems and accept our defeats? Or for teaching us by your example. The value of hard work, good judgment, education, and integrity? And for the simple things like laughter, smiles and times we shared? If we have forgotten to show our Gratitude enough for all the things you did, We're thanking you now, and we hoping you knew all along, How much you meant to us. We love you now and always!! From Teetee, Kenny & Bolu

Tribute to Dn (Prof) Adewole

It was very shocking to hear the news of the passing of Dn Adewole. I have known the Adewole family from childhood as our families both attended New Estate Baptist Church and myself and the boys went to the same primary school.

Dn Adewole was a very caring, humble and energetic gentleman with an infectious smile. Whenever I visited Deoye he would always be so warm and inviting, their house in Yaba was more like my second home. Even when we would get into the usual antics as kids, he would always be very forgiving.

He was a very passionate man of God and was fully committed and dedicated to the church. He moved to Oyo and Osun States respectively on work assignments but still remained active in church activities at New Heritage. This passion for the things of God has also been instilled in his children and other family members that stayed with him. He touched the lives of many and was an epitome of love, humility and selflessness.

While we pray that the Lord Almighty comforts his immediate, extended and NHBC family at this time, we will also celebrate his exemplary life which was a life of service to the church and mankind. Continue to rest in the bosom of the Lord Almighty sir.

ADIEU, MY INDEFATIGABLE GBOYEGA
4th September, 2019 was a day I will never forget in life. I received the greatest shock of my life when at 4:00 am on this fateful day I got the news of Professor Taiwo Adewole's transition to glory. I had spoken to him barely twelve hours before he passed away. There were no indications he was going to die. Indeed this is fate, there is no armour against fate. A cruel fate. I cannot remember when last I cried when someone died, not even my mother or father but I wept for the fate that befell my friend of more than 50 years for over two weeks before I could console myself.
We met at the Federal School of Science, Onikan, Lagos in 1968 and since then we have been more than friends. I cannot do anything without him and he too will always carry me along in anything he does. Our relationship was not only contiguous but consanguineous. We got admitted into University of Ibadan the same year and while I was posted to Zik Hall, he got posted to Kuti Hall. We did all that was humanly possible for him transferred to Azikwe Hall, we pressed and made sure my roommate was moved to another room. As a result, we shared the same room for the duration of our different courses. After graduation and national service, we regrouped; bought the same brand and make of car with the same colour (WAF 1980), such was the association we shared until his sudden departure. About six years ago, I gave him a copy of a will I made and asked him to the my administrator, when I die. Little did I know he would go before me. Very painful.
He was generous to a fault and his magnanimity is unparalleled. The role he played in the life of one of my children is particularly remarkable. As a medical laboratory science student at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, he was transferred to Jos during reorganisation exercise and when my friend learnt of this, he did everything humanly possible and got him back to LAUTECH. Besides, this boy stayed with him at Ede for three years until he graduated. I am eternally grateful to him for this and many other things too numerous to recount here.
Out of those of us who were friends particularly by the Science School Group, he was outstanding. After his first degree in biochemistry, he went in for PhD and later proceeded to read Medicine. He was a fellow of the West African College of Physicians. He was a recipient of many awards including Husband of the year award in 2011.
He has departed this sinful world where his wealth of experience would have benefitted mankind, my prayer is that God will uphold the family , the wife, Keji, the children and those he left behind including me. May God grant us all the fortitude to bear the loss
MAY HIS GENTLE SOUL REST IN PEACE.
Adieu Norothing.

TRIBUTE TO A BOSOM FRIEND

Sir Gboye I called you. Your usual response was baba rere. Oloru of oru was my response to your hello anytime I called you between 10 to 11 pm, my usual time of calling. Ronke called you captain anything, both of you being products of Baptist College, Iwo. When I called to congratulate you on July 26, 2019 when you clocked 70, it never dawned on me that it was the last phone call I would make to you. Exactly a week later, you passed on to the great beyond. Much as Ronke and I are still trying to understand your sudden departure, we cannot fathom the misery. We however, take solace in the fact that God Himself called you home. We cannot query Him.

I recall with nostalgia that you and I met in Ede, your hometown, in 1975 after our National Youth Service. Fate further brought us together as post-graduate students in the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) when I joined the University in 1977 and we lived in the same house. I knew when you left UNIFE (OAU) for the University of Calabar to study medicine after you had successfully completed the experimental work for your Ph.D. We were in close contact even when we moved to Lagos. I was privileged to be your bestman when you got married to your sweetheart, Keji. I was outside the country in 1987 when Ronke gave birth to our last baby, Funmi. You sent the telegram that informed me of the safe delivery of the baby girl, who today is a proud mother. You were the chairman at the wedding reception of our daughter, Mobolanle, in 2014.

To say we miss you is an understatement. Our consolation however, is that you lived a fulfilled life both by virtue of your devotion to your calling and your profession, medicine. You served God and humanity. Your life was an epitome of a true believer. You were humble, in spite of your great academic achievements. You were committed to whatever you believed in. If any of your friends had any problem and intimated you of the problem, like we had cause to, you would not rest until you solved the problem. You were kind-hearted. You were generous, almost to a fault. You were a committed family man. You suddenly left the group of your very close friends. The consolation we have is that you are resting with the Lord. Sleep on, our bosom friend, till we meet to part no more.

DADDY, You were a great Encourager, loving mentor a father to me and my family, back to my early years when I was at the University College Hospital, ibadan and during my health challenges at that same time. In particular, some 9 years ago you. When my sister in law was very sick even with 6 months pregnancy in her and she was admitted to a missionary hospital at ogbomosho. Battling with life, I sent my parents (Hon & Mrs Oni) to you in Nigeria and the speed and professional industry you put into our dear needs are still freshly alive in us. Especially with the host of specialists and consultants you mobilized along with you, and scarifice of your Annual leave to attend to the situation and thereby saving the mother and the baby inside. You allowed God to use you as an angel to us. YOUR HUMILITY TO ALL PEOPLE IS EXEMPLARY.
DADDY You are surely great even at Transition.
"Iku Oro re da, Isa oku isegunreda!"
Dcn. Prof. Taiwo Adegboyega Adewole, please rest in peace.

The memory of the just is blessed.
I met Prof Adewole for the first time as a young Doctor in the year 2002 at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, Yaba, Lagos.
Prof was an astute clinician and a researcher per excellence. He is one of the few doctors that transverse effortlessly the laboratory and clinical aspects of medical practice.
He was a mentor we look up to and yet had a warm embrace of a father. Prof had a strong desire for excellence in all things and little tolerance for mediocrity and laziness.
The medical and academic community in Nigeria has lost an icon.
Our solace is in the fact that his good works will keep speaking and the assurance that we shall meet again on the resurrection morning.
Adieu Prof

FROM THE PUBLICITY & PUBLICATIONS COMMITTEE, NEW HERITAGE BAPTIST CHURCH

A GREAT SOLDIER OF GOD GOES HOME
(Tribute to a Great soldier of Christ)

Putting pen to paper to write a tribute to this great man of God was not easy. Dn (Prof) Taiwo Adewole was a complete gentleman, caring, humble, encouraging, compassionate and a great leader. He was the Chairman of the Diaconate for eight years at the New Heritage Baptist Church Somolu. He was one of the founding leaders in the church in 1996.

Prof Adewole was until his death a member of the Publicity & Publication Department at NHBC Somolu. He played a great role as one of the editors. He is known to travel all the way from his base in Osun state to attend Committee meetings and make his inputs. His was a life of dedication and service to his Lord and master – Jesus Christ.

He will be greatly missed by the Committee as he will say “my sister” or “my brother” His voice of sound reasoning and advice will be surely missed.

Our prayer is that the Lord will comfort his wife, children and the family of God which he dearly loved. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.

Deacon Professor Adewole that I know

I got to know Deacon Professor Taiwo Adewole at the New Estate/New Heritage Baptist Churches in the 90’s. I got to know him better at New Heritage Baptist Church Shomolu in 1996 (when the church started). Deacon Adewole was a complete gentleman, very humble, a great encourager and one that unifies the brethren. He was the diaconate chairman at NHBC and extremely helpful especially as it related to the health of the brethren.

He was passionate about the things of God and although he moved to Osun state, he was very much a part of NHBC Somolu. He belonged to the Publications and Medical Committee of the Church. He will look out to see any of the brethren needing support and ensure he did his best to lift up such a person. He was very impactful. His life was that of service to God and man.

Deacon Adewole was a family man, a great husband to our dear sister Keji and a wonderful father to Dokun and Adeoye. He will surely be missed but we are comforted that we will meet again at the feet of the father.

A GREAT BAPTIST DEACON HAS GONE HOME

The news of passing on to glory of Deacon (Professor) Taiwo Adewole that morning was strange. I did not see it coming. How can he leave in this sudden manner, what happened, where and when? These were many questions passing through my mind. The reality came when the wife confirmed on the telephone and explained what happened. Secret things will always belong to God.

This man of God served his saviour and was a leader with a servant heart – a well accomplished Professor of Chemical Pathology and a Baptist Deacon with a heart of Gold. A beloved brother and a cherished and dependable Christian friend, helpful and resourceful.

In Phil.1:21, Apostle Paul stated “For me to live is Christ and to die is gain” – Deacon Professor Adewole lived for his Lord Jesus Christ and has now received his gain for a fruitful and impactful life of service to the Lord,

He was always a positive influence on everyone on the governing board of Bowen University Teaching Hospital (BUTH) and BUTH Allied and Services Limited both in Ogbomosho. He conducted the last BHAS Board meeting in June 2019 (as acting chairman) so remarkably, sharing from Hebrews 12:18-24 emphasising verse 22 “that we had come to a place of meeting with the living God who is always present with an innumerable company of Angels......”. We did not know that would be his last appearance at the company’s Board Meeting.

As our diaconate chairman at New Heritage Baptist Church, Shomolu (2001-2008), he led the team of four Deacons with love, dedication and sustainable maturity. I will always cherish his support for me as the Acting Pastor of the Church from 2003 to 2008. A great man of God, a faithful and committed deacon and a skilful and dedicated member of the New Heritage Baptist Church Family. We will all miss him greatly.

Now that you are home with the Lord Jesus Christ, take your rest in the bosom of the Lord until we meet again on the resurrection morning. My dear brother, Deacon and friend Deacon (Professor) Taiwo Adewole rest in perfect peace until we meet again.

Prof was a perfect gentleman, ever ready to lend a helping hand. He was so dedicated to the profession to the extent that even in his challenged state he still came to give his revision lecture of the West Africa College of Physicians in Ibadan in August even when he could not remember the password to his computer. His was always a matured analysis at our bi-annual College examinations and ever so humble in his submissions.
Sleep on Prof and have your deserved rest at the bosom of our Lord. May the Lord console everyone you have left behind.

Sir Gboye, the news of your passing away came to me a rude shock, having made contact with you about 2 weeks earlier to wish you a Happy 70th birthday. I was able to do that but you left us shortly after.

We have been together for more than 50 years to the extent that our families were kind of merged.

We thank God Almighty that he granted you a fulfilled life. When I remember the time at the Federal Science at Onikan, Lagos, the time at the University of Ibadan, the time at the University of Ife , I just get flooded with memories of your resilience, humility, bridge building and generosity.

You must have lived a fulfilled life which is all we pray for. Will that people say about you we can not but thank God Almighty. We love you but God loves you best. May God grant you eternal rest in heaven. Amen.

Adieu! My great friend. We shall miss you but God Almighty knows best.

Sir, this is the tribute from Baptist Health Fellowship. Adieu Dn. Prof. Taiwo Adewole. We cannot forget easily the promise you made at Ogbomoso in April, this year during the Nigerian Baptist Convention in session that you will be with us at Akwa Home mission field for the Fellowship annual rural medical outreach come October this year. Little did we know that we will not be able to see your smiling face again. Your desire to serve the Lord is not in doubt. You have fought the good fight and have won. The crown the Lord Almighty prepared for you is waiting for you. Rest in the bosom of the Lord. We love you but God love you best. Dn Dr Feludu Isaac on behalf of Baptist Health Fellowship of the Nigerian Baptist Convention.

His Life
September 22, 2019
Professor Taiwo Adegboyega Adewole was born on 26th  August, 1949 in Osogbo to the family of Pa Samuel Ladeji Adewole and Mama Lydia Oladuntan Adewole of Ekeniku compound, Ede, Osun State.  He was the fifth of seven children, namely Adeyoola (late), Abiola Adenike, Ajibola Moyosore (late), Ademola Okunlola (late), Taiwo Adegboyega (late),  Kehinde Aderonke (late), Idowu Funmilayo.

He attended Baptist High School, Iwo, Federal School of Science, Lagos, and the University of Ibaban where he bagged his B.Sc. degree in Biochemistry. After his National Youth Service, he proceeded to University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) where he became the first student to obtain a Ph.D degree in Biochemistry.  While rounding up the programme, he yielded to his innate desire to read Medicine by seeking and obtaining admission to the University of Calabar where he got the MBBS degree. Subsequently, he was appointed as a research Fellow at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) in Lagos, where he spent 18 years, and rose to the rank of Deputy Director (Research).  His post-graduate Diploma (Specialist training) came through a full Residency programme at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), thereafter becoming a Fellow of West Africa College of Physicians (1996), and specializing in Laboratory Medicine.

At NIMR, he headed the newly-created Division of Clinical Sciences and midwifed the setting up of the largest HIV treatment centre in the whole of southern Nigeria, and the third largest in the country, currently employing over 100 staff.  He was fully involved with PEPFAR ( US President’s Emergency Plan For AIDs Relief), and APIN (AIDs Prevention Initiative In Nigeria), both of which have led to the treatment to over 25,000 HIV/AIDs patients. At the same time, he was Associate Lecturer at Lagos State University and LUTH where he wsa involved with the training of post-graduate students at Masters and Ph.D levels.

In recognition of his hard work, teaching excellence, and numerous publications in leading academic journals, the Ladoke Akintola University of Science and Technology, (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, appointed him a Professor of Chemical Pathology, closely followed by his becoming the Provost of the College of Health Sciences.  During his tenure, he secured accreditation for Nursing and Biometrical Science, and for MBBS degree. He was able to move the College to its permanent site and was instrumental in getting an increase in the number of medical students approved for admission by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, (MDCN). Noting the advancement he effected at LAUTECH, the then Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola requested for and obtained his secodment to the newly-established University of Osun State, (UNIOSUN) to start their Medical School.  Thus he became the pioneer Provost of the College of Health Sciences where he worked for five meritorious years and secured its NUC accreditation, before returning to LAUTECH.

Professor Adewole had barely settled down after his return to LAUTECH when Bowen University, (BU), came to request for his services. Feeling  reluctant to leave LAUTECH again, it took the intervention of the then President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention and the Vice Chancellor of BU to formerly secure his release to them. There, He became the Provost of the College of Health Science and the Acting Chief Medical Director of BU Teaching Hospital.  He remained a member of both the BUTH Governing Board and their Heaith and Allied Services Ltd Board. He continued to be the Chairman of the Medical Board of the Nigerian Baptist Convention until his demise.

It is worthy of note that he was not only a teacher, but a father to his students and staff, lending a helping hand in times of trouble, and paying the school fees of some of the indigent students.

Having attained the statutory retirement age of 70 years, he was just settling down to establish a clinic in Ede when, through a chance encounter, his C.V. and credentials came to the notice of the officials of Nile University, Abuja, who were very impressed and promptly gave him an offer of appointment which he held until he passed on.

Professor Taiwo Adewole was a devout Christian;  he was was devoted to serving God and was so much involved in Church work that he and his wife were sent by New Estate Baptist Church, Lagos, to go and pioneer New Heritage Baptist Church, Lagos. He was ordained a Deacon on 7th April, 2001 at New Heritage Baptist and served as the Chairman of the Deaconate Board for years. Sometime later, he held the position of Church Leader at Baptist Church Oke Apaso, Ede while the Church was in search of a substantive Pastor.  Even in Abuja, he attended the First Baptist Church, Garki up to the last Sunday of his life.

He led the Medical Team of the Osun State Christian Pilgrimage to the Holy Land three times, and his team was adjudged the best State Medical Team by the National Medical Coordinator in the November, 2012 exercise.

Professor Taiwo Adewole was married to his sweetheart, Morounkeji, from the Fifo family of Ondo town, and the union is blessed with three sons, one of whom is late.  He was a caring and loving family man, and his devoted wife remained staunchly at his side up till the early hours of 4th September, 2019, when he passed away.

He will be sorely missed by his family, Church, friends, community, and hometown (Ede). He left a good legacy, and a fitting epitaph for him comes :from the Bible :

“.....Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord ... that they may rest from their labours, and their works follow them”    Revelations 14 : 13
