I was fortunate to work in Professor Lianhong Sun's lab as an undergraduate student at UMass Amherst. His enthusiasm, patience, and kindness were an inspiration to me. Without his help and encouragement, my research career would not be as diverse and successful as it is. Thank you Professor Lianhong Sun for allowing me to have those opportunities. I would not be where I am today without your help. My heart goes out to his family. Please know the profound impact he has had and that he is truly missed.

Lianhong was my PhD adviser at UMass Amherst and a great mentor. He was Intelligent, kind and thoughtful and helped shape me into the person I am today. I am a better person for having had him as my adviser and I am grateful that I was given the opportunity to work with him. He will be missed.

My lab was next to Prof. Sun's lab at UMass and we used to see each other from time to time. I was so shocked to hear such a kind person, talent scholar passed away with young age. I worried about him as I heard he was sick, however more and more positive news told by my friend made me feel encouraged and believe he would recover soon. There are still many his previous students’ laboratory notebooks kept in my office, I always thought he might need them someday. I feel so sorry this day will never come now. Wish Prof. Sun gets peace in heaven and my condolence to his family.

I was so shocked to hear this. I got to know Prof. Sun when at UMass 10 years ago. He was such a kind person! We have lost a good friend and the world has lost such a brilliant scholar!

Prof. Sun taught me at UMass Amherst, but to me he was way more than a fantastic teacher. His kindness, encouragement, guidance and supports endure and have always been greatly appreciated. Rest in Peace. 一路走好!

I was fortunate to know LIanhong during his time at UMass Amherst. We had children the same ages that attended Amherst Montessori School. Lianhong was such a kind person. I remember when my 2nd son was born, he and his wife Linda paid a visit to our house, brightening our day. My heart goes out to all of his friends and family in this difficult time.

A wonderful person, so warm and kind. He was truly a loving and caring father and husband. He fought so hard, was so brave and family meant everything to him. Be strong Linda, Hao Hao and Timmy. Please know that we all send our love and condolences. I know this is truly a difficult time. We send huge hugs, kisses and love.

Lianhong was my "office" next door neighbor at UMass Amherst. I was impressed by his depth of heart and mind while here as a professor. I was sorry to see him go when he left here, but not nearly as sorry as I am right now to learn of the sad news of Lianhong's passing at such a very young age. I wish peace for Lianhong and his family in this very difficult time.
