THE MAN PROF EMMANUEL EZUGWU
Professor Emmanuel Okechukwu Ezugwu, a devoted husband to Patty, his wife of four decades, a loving father to his children Ginikanwa, Emmanuel Jr and Nnaemeka, a caring and supporting brother to the entire UgwuEzugwu Ukwuma family of Amukpa Ogbozalla-Opi, and friend to all who crossed his path, is dead. He died in his sleep in the early hours of Thursday, 17th September, 2020 in his Abuja residence, aged 60.

Prof Emma Ezugwu, mentor to many now successful individuals, a distinguished and widely published academic, the pioneer Provost of the Air Force Institute of Technology, Kaduna, Nigeria was at death a serving Member of the Governing Council of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, a position he had held since 2015, and visiting Professor to the National Universities Commission, Abuja,.

Trained at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, he later obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Warwick in 1986, where he also rose to become a Senior Research Fellow. He eventually joined London South Bank University as full professor in 1993 and became the Director of the internationally renowned UK- and EU-funded Machining Research Centre, London.

He returned home to establish and head Nigeria’s world class centre of learning and research in aerospace technology, the Airforce Institute of Technology (AFIT-Nigeria), Kaduna. As its pioneer provost, he successfully worked for the elevation of AFIT to a degree awarding institution, a feat for which he was rewarded with the naming of the Institute’s main library after him.

His many achievements included the development of self-propelled rotary cutter, for which he received a Meritorious Award from the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology in 2000. A member of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, Prof. Emma Ezugwu is listed as a Noteworthy Manufacturing Engineer by Marquis Who’s Who. He has published well over 200 academic and research materials in internationally renowned journals.

His humane and philanthropic disposition know no boundaries. A scholarship provider for the less privileged, a devout Christian of the Catholic faith and quiet funder of numerous church projects, robust community leader, counsellor and life coach; settler of medical bills for those who would have been trapped perpetually in the hospital after discharge; provider and hope of hapless widows. The list of his good works is endless, wrapped in his cosmopolitan but unassuming personality.

Emmanuel O. Ezugwu, forthright, ebullient, humane and unpretentious, will be sorely missed by his immediate and extended families, the entire Opi community, his friends, colleagues and former students  in the academic world and institutions where he had impacted so much on, and indeed all who knew him. Our loss is heaven’s gain.

Fri, September 17th 2021, marked the 1 year anniversary of the passing of Prof. Emmanuel Okechukwu Ezugwu's departure. Dad, we remember and honour you today one year after this world lost such a precious soul. The pain of such a monumental loss will never fully subside and it is at its rawest and most vivid on days like today. His death reminds us that in this world nothing is permanent, we all have to go when God wishes.

We are comforted by the understanding that people we lose still live through us. I have been thinking of the various moments with my Dad when we laughed together, debated together and how he raised me to be the man I am today. These diverse memories are absorbed in all of us and I am so thankful for the impactful life he was able to live. I hear my father's voice cheering me on in my successes and I am strengthened by the fact this is the same for you all.

Man is mortal and the shortness of life is cruel. Though Prof. Emmanuel Ezugwu is no longer visible to the naked eye, it does not mean that his presence is not felt. The strength of his impact and love for us all means he endures in the hearts of us even after he has gone.

May He continue to REST in the bosom of the LORD, till we meet again.

Today marks it exactly one year since you were born to eternal life.

Really sad to hear this. Prof was a student of my late father at Federal Polytechnic Idah, while at South Bank University, he work to offer me a position to pursue my post at the institution, unfortunately my pursuits took me elsewhere.

When dad passed on he was there at Nnewi, and after that when I visited Kaduna he got me the best Accomodation ever. Rest In Peace prof.

So sad to hear this. Prof was a student of my late father at Federal Polytechnic Idah. Despite the years between us, he was a real friend to me when I moved to UK.

I was glad to communicate with him when he moved back to Nigeria. The country stood to gain from his wealth of knowledge and expertise in the field of engineering. What a loss! Adieu my friend. May his soul rest in peace.

Fred Nwodo -

I hereby send a consolation message on the demise of a man-of-God, Emma Ezugwu (Professor). Emma was truly a man-of-God. He Knew God, He loved God and served God. He knew why God created him.

Knowing God: Any man who hopes to know God by seeing Him is prepared to die. We know God by researching, publishing and teaching the Truth or aspects of It, i.e striving to know God. Emma researched incisively and published enviable volumes of his findings in high impact journals. He taught both his and other findings to peoples of all races and creed. He strived to know God and actually did so in this regard.

Loving God: Emma loved God's creations. No one sees God to love. We love God by loving his people and preserving the Truth as Emma did.

Serving God: The greatest attribute of Emma was service. He served God at all levels from the family through the nation to the world.

The Christian doctrine outlines the outcome of these three attributes as: To live with Him in everlasting joy in Heaven.

Thus we rejoice with the family that this man who knew God, loved God and served God has an assured place in Heaven by his life.

Wherefore family, friends and well-wishers do you ask with Lam 4:!: Why has the Gold become dim? The Lord God would not want him to be corrupted and so did not offer us a chance to delay his transition to everlasting glory because: Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death his Saints (Ps 116).

We know and also continue to pray that at the sound of the trumpet he will be one of first to meet Christ in air having died a man of God.

Lord God, Almighty kindly grant him eternal rest and may perpetual light shine upon him. I pray that the good Lord consoles you, Nnaemeka and the bereaved family and friends.

TRIBUTE TO PROFESSOR EMMANUEL EZUGWU

ESUT has lost a gem of immeasurable worth. This is a position which only the Chairman of the Governing Council and other members of the ESUT Governing Council fully appreciate.

Yes, men are not indispensable. However, they are not auto-replaceable. He who feels it, knows it! But what can we do? We must move on.

Back to Prof. Ezugwu, Prof was a man of sincerity. He was sincere about his convictions. He was sincere about his race. His nationality, His nativity. His profession. He believed in institutionalised conduct. My time with him in the ESUT Governing Council provided me with such substantial insight and understanding of him. This accounted for the sound and fury and sometimes the palpable silence that heralded his entry into the arena. He was a vivacious person. He was a proud Nsukka Man! He was equally a proud Igbo Man! He was loved by many at Home and Abroad!

The Bishop, NnaAnyi - trusted him. In short, "depended" on him. Although he was viewed with suspicion by the rest of us. He was a dependable character - firm and rocky! A paraphrase of Shakespeare and Macbeth about him should say "There should have been time for this." But which time? Who dares question God? Nke di YanmaK'ona-eme!

We all, great and small alike are His servants and His case, No Appeal! It is sealed! As we bid farewell to our brother, Prod. Emmanuel Ezugwu, we earnestly pray God to grant him Eternal Rest and with His special sustained presence comfort his spouse and children. Amen.

Adieu, Prof. Emma Ezugwu!

A TRIBUTE TO LATE ENGR PROF EMMANUEL OKECHUKWU EZUGWU: A BROTHER, KINSMAN AND BENEFACTOR

Life is indeed a mirage and a fleeting experience. Man is replete with a plethora of proposals and propositions but it is in the power of God to bring into fruition, the desires and aspirations of man as He pleases. A virtue of prime importance in life is therefore the disposition and inclination to adding value and sowing kindness into the lives of fellow human beings. Engr Prof Emmanuel Okechukwu Ezugwu understood this so well and exemplified it while alive. I'm among the witnesses.

Blessed with an unquantifiable stock of intellectual resources added an intimidating giantly stature, you will be amazed at Prof Emmanuel Ezugwu's rock-bottom humility and amiable personality. I first met Prof Ezugwu in 2018 at the interview hall of the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) Kaduna where I was being interviewed for the post of Deputy Registrar that I had applied for.

His uncommon humility and typical "wawa" charming reception naturally radiated after he was introduced as my brother and kinsman by the then Commandant AVM Udeagulu, were no small invigorating tonic to me. I instantly listed him in my prayers list and later among the persons I was indebted to appreciating their benevolence. Thus when the marriage function of his child was announced, I looked forward to identifying with him only for it to be put on hold because of Corona virus. It is unfortunate that I didn't have the opportunity to appreciate him alive because of the wicked hands of death.

Engr Prof Emmanuel Okechukwu Ezugwu - a Professor of Engineering Systems was a practical engineer who professionally distinguished himself internationally with his legacies including the design and supervision of the construction of special military fighting vehicles at the Air Force Institute of Technology Kaduna, which were named after him thus doing Nigeria, the Nigeria Air Force, Enugu State and people of Nsukka zone a great pride.

It is my sincere prayer to God that He will grant the entire Prof Emmanuel Okechukwu Ezugwu's family the fortitude to bear this impromptu parting. It is equally my prayer that God will make his family members adorn the ideals, excel the legacies and ascend above the levels at which Prof operated.

Adieu! My brother, kinsman and benefactor - Engr Prof Emmanuel Okechukwu Ezugwu.

TRIBUTE TO OUR IN LAW AND FRIEND
ENGR. PROFESSOR EMMANUEL .O. EZUGWU

The news of the sudden demise of our in - law and friend, came to us as a rude shock.
Apart from losing an in law, I have a personal loss of him as a friend. I wish to recall with a heavy heart and nostalgia that the circumstance that brought both of us closer was the unique role which I played during his wedding with my cousin sister in Nigeria in the early 80s, before their departure to Britain.
When God had blessed them with the twin sons in Britain, Prof. personally sent me a message of their birth and told me that they decided to name one of the twins’ Obumneme’ my Ibo name in appreciation for that unique role.
Prof, continued to treat me as a friend and in law even when he came down to Nigeria and assumed the post of Provost at Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) Kaduna, Nigeria.
Indeed, it is with heavy heart that I put down this memory.
We pray to God to accept things we cannot change; the prefect will of the almighty God, who alone holds the key of life and death.
We also pray that God will receive his soul in his blossom. Good night and rest in prefect peace.

Prince Joseph Ezugwu and Family -

I have come to realise and accept that life and death is in the hands of our creator; to keep it or to release it is his prerogative. if not how can i explain that our own prof whom i was with on monday preceding the early thursday that he was confirmed dead till about after 10:00pm is now being referred to in the past.

On that day(My last with him on earth), he was full of life, ever cheerful and no sign of ailment at all, and the news of his demise went verile to all the parts of the world that knows this gentle, peaceful and erudite professor, and so the rest is history.

I only take solace and consolation that within his sixty (60) years of life on this earth he achieved a lot more than most of his contemporaries and was at edge of adding other bigger feathers to his cap before he was called up by his maker to a greater and worthy assignments with the saints triumph.

One thing is certain, that if all the people that have come in close contact with this gentle soul "Emmanuel" ( the name sake of our saviour Jesus Christ) should be given chance to decide his faith, we would have preferred his death postponed, but such choice was not given. So Prof sleeps well till we meet to part no more. Adieu Nwa Ezugwu Adieu Odogwu; Ladoooh!

The Gentle Giant

You had always remained predictable and dependable.
The last time, I served with you at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology. You were reliable and dependable.

Whilst we were in the United Kingdom, you were reliable and dependable.
But now, for the first time, you presented the surprise of our life time. That is not really reliable and dependable. But I believe that you did not plan it that way, else you would have informed in February 2020 when we last spent quality time.

The Lord knows best. He will receive you in His bosom. He will provide where you left. He will look after your lovely family on our behalf.

REST IN PEACE my friend

Tribute to Professor Emmanuel O. Ezugwu

It was with great shock, sadness, and extreme difficulty for me to write this tribute on the tragic passing on of my dear friend Prof. Emmanuel Ezugwu. Sadly although you are no longer here, somehow you remain ever near. Emmanuel, you were one in a million, you were a friend of the highest, privileged and lowest in the society. You were a man substance, an intellectual, a visionary, and a great achiever.

Emmanuel, your tragic and sad passing on came at a time we would have wished to continue to benefit from your wise counsel, empathy, and support. However, our God Almighty in his infinite wisdom knows best why he called you home now. Our memories together at Idah, United Kingdom and United States respectively will forever be treasured within my heart. I remember you with warmest thoughts on how you strived and secured a doctorate degree (Ph.D.) grant from you colleague at South Bank University, London, UK. Sadly at your demise, my cousin you immensely assisted in his academic pursuit at South Bank University was just made a professor at South Bank University, London, UK. Emmanuel, you were ever so wonderful. We take solace in the fact that Professor Emmanuel Ezugwu lived a fulfilled life on earth though short and bequeathed worthy legacies on his family, friends, the community, the nation, and beyond.

I convey my family heartfelt condolences and pray that our Almighty God will grant Emmanuel eternal rest and peace in his bosom and give his wife Patty and children Ginika, Nnaemeka and Emmanuel (Jnr) the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable and irreparable loss.

Adieu, Emmanuel!!!

CHIJIOKE C UGWU -

TRIBUTE PRESENTED BY MR. CHIJIOKE C UGWU ON BEHALF OF AMOKEOSHIGA PROGRESSIVE FRONT ON THE BURIAL CEREMONY OF HER ILLUSTRIOUS SON PROF EMMANUEL OKECHUWU EZUGWU ON 23 OCTOBER, 2020.

Prof Emmanuel Ezugwu was born into the family of Chief Simon Ezugwu and Chief (Mrs) Margaret Ezugwu both of blessed memory in Amokeoshiga-Amukpa Ogbozalla Opi in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State in Nigeria on 11 November, 1959. His late father was a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police in Nigeria Police Force. His late mother was an astute business woman and politicians, very supportive to his husband. They instilled discipline on their children. Prof Emmanuel had his primary and secondary school educations at Saint Charles Primary, Opi and Saint Theresa's College, Nsukka respectively. He later proceeded to the famous Federal Polythenic, Idah in Kogi State where he studied Metallurgical Engineering. His excellent performance in his course fetched him Scholarship from the school for further degrees in United Kingdom.

Pro Emmanuel Ezugwu had his M.Sc and Ph.D degrees at University of Warwick, London. He bagged Ph. D in 1986 in Manufacturing engineering. He
rose to become a Senior Research Fellow there. Later on, he got job as a Senior Lecturer in the famous South Bank University, London as a Professor in 1993.

He was a Director, Machining Research Centre, London. This research centre is funded by Rolls Royce, United Kingdom and European Union. One of his
research findings led to the development of self-propelled rotary cutter. This feat launched him to world stage! He won a meritorious award in 2000 from
Nigeria's Federal Ministry of Science and technology. He has over two hundred publications in internationally renowned journals. He is an authority in the field of Manufacturing Engineering.

A seminar on Aerospace technology which he delivered in Abuja caught fancy of late President Yardua. He was prevailed by Yardua government to
help Nigeria establish Aerospace and Defence Engineering Institute in Kaduna named "Air Force Institute of Technology" He became a pioneer provost of the school on April 2009. The Institute rose to become a degree awarding one under his watch. His meritorious service to his fatherland was handsomely rewarded by government when the Institute's main library was named after him. Former President Jonathan renewed his mandate for second term which ended on 2019.

Prof Emmanuel Ezugwu was a visiting professor to National Universities Commission in Abuja. He was among team of experts that championed
accreditation of engineering courses in Nigeria universities. His repeated attempts to become Vice Chancellor of University of Nigeria proved unsuccessful.

The good news is that he was always the final stage of the interview but providence ruled otherwise in terms of emerging winner.
Prof Emmanuel Ezugwu is a member of Governing Council of Enugu State University of Science and technology. The council is currently
repositioning the university into enviable status. His imprint is noticeable there. He is also a member of Presidential subcommittee on steel charged with responsibility of reviving Ajaokuta steel plant among other sundry engagements both locally and internationally. His competence is not in doubt! We are reckoned with in the academic world through your exploits.

Education without humanity is zero. His death left us gasping for breath. He is so generous, level-headed, intelligent and amiable. His presence in
several of our gatherings ignite higher ambition among youths. He identified with us in all things we do. He discharged his civic obligations in our society
marvellously. A devout Catholic and a happy family man, he lived a fulfilled life.

He was an ardent member of Ekwueme age grade N' Opi. This age grade has been instrumental to socio-cultural and economic well-being of the town.
The members comprise intelligent, industrious, sagacious resourceful people. They are role models in town.

Solidarity of Emelegenyi brethren came to the fore when news of Professor Ezugwu's demise filtered in. The shock is devastating. The group icon of all WhatsApp platforms in Opi changed to candle light which is a sign of mourning. Such avalanche of condolences assuages our pains.
Our loss is heaven's gain. Who will fill the vacuum your exit created? Answer to this question is what matters now. It is beyond our powers. Providence will step in for our sake. We implore Him to do it for us expeditiously. With God on our side, our agony will not linger forever. He is a loving God.

May Almighty God grant your soul eternal bliss in His abode till we meet to part no more.

Chima Ugwuowo -

Tribute to a dear uncle!

Your death shattered lofty dreams. I feel privileged being closer to you whenever I read your profile in google. Humanity lost a rare gem in your demise. Even in death, we can gladly point at your legacies. Your simplicity humbles! We are reckoned with in the academic community through your research findings and breakthroughs. Our town is now in academic orbit courtesy of you.

Part of reactions trailing your death is whether God exists. It is that serious. Poor Chima! I am not omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. If any ransom exists to reverse your death, it would have been possible! If it demands swapping of head, I will do it. My love for you is boundless. I write with trembling fingers. If reincarnation exists, let us reincarnate together in the next world.

Former President Yardua is an intelligent man. You delivered a seminar in Abuja which caught his fancy. A foremost manufacturing engineer in African continent and beyond, your exit created a big vacuum. The late President moved in swiftly to enlist your service in establishing first Aerospace and Defence Engineering institute named "Air Force Institute of Technology, Kaduna. You heeded the national call. Former President Jonathan swiftly renewed your mandate for second term. Not only that you are the pioneer provost of the institute, the institute metamorphosed into a degree awarding institute under your watch. Such marvellous feat caught the attention of government which resulted in naming the Institute's main library after you! It is interesting to note that the institute is the first and only one in the country.

You are gentility personified. Rest in peace sir till we meet to part no more.

Professor Emmanuel Okechukwu Ezugwu, Joins his ancestors

It is with cold shock but with total submission to the will of the Almighty God that we received the sudden demise of the Late Prof. Emmanuel Okechukwu.

The bitter truth is that death is as constant as Northern star to all mortals, there is no hiding place when time comes. The ravaging war of death on the living cannot be imagine. Just in his very write up few days before his death, I quote Prof Emma: "At times like this, one cannot look inward and ask a pertinent question, "WHO WILL BE THE NEXT TO ANSWER THE ULTIMATE CALL."

Now, a Hero has fallen, an Icon is gone forever, Death is indeed wicked. the ironies of life that Prof. could leave stage impromptu at the period when we all need him most.

Late Prof. Emma Ezugwu is a philanthropist, patriot and builder of young entrepreneurs. He had a special scholarship foundation programme for the less privileged in Opi community and beyond but death has made you to abandon them unannounced at the time when you were actually needed most both in your family and society at large.

Our prayer is that heavenly Angels will receive your soul.
For the bereaved Wife and children, we share in your grief and pray for God to give you the fortitude to bear this irreparable great Loss.

Weep not Ekwueme Age Grade.
Weep not the deceased family.
Let us take solace in the Lord.

May your Soul and the Souls of all the Faithfull departed rest in peace Adieu Emmanuel. Continue to rest in the Bosom of the Lord till we meet to part no more.

Dr Carol Obayi -

It is with a heavy heart that I mourn the demise of a great friend, a colleague in the immediate past Governing council of ESUT, an intellectual of great repute yet abundant in humility, an amiable soul, a man of great foresight, vigour and vision, a charismatic cum task-oriented leader, a pacifier and an uncompromising devotee of Our Blessed Mother Mary - Late Professor Emmanuel Okechukwu Ezugwu. EMMAN, as I fondly called you, your death is too much for me to bear, I am still in a big shock and can write no more. Fare-thee well Prof. You were one of the best. Rest in perfect peace and may SHE who you adored dearly as mortal, envelope your kind soul on HER bosom. May the wife, children and the entire Ezugwu family bear the death honourably knowing that HE who giveth also taketh.

It is with a very heavy heart that I accept you travelled so soon to the world beyond.
We first met on business grounds but I later found in you a father that made me call you Dad even during official meetings.

I won't forget your humility, intelligence, patience, leadership qualities and your ability to support others. These are rare viruses to find all in one person.

I pray God give your loving family the strength to carry on.
Your legacy and positive spirit lives on.
You are greatly missed as you cross the bar.
I pray you rest peacefully in the blossom of the lord till we meet again.

TRIBUTE TO A MAN OF THE PEOPLE, A SAINTLY SOUL – PROF. EMMANUEL EZUGWU

Times without number I tried to pull myself together to get started with this tribute, but for some unknown reasons, I couldn’t just do so. I found myself asking so many questions which no one could proffer answers to. But then, it dawned on me that this world is actually like a scene, in which everyone plays his/her role and vacates the stage for the next.

There are people whose departure from this earthly abode, although a huge loss to us mortals, is to the high heavens, a triumphant entrant of a saint. Professor Emma Ezugwu lived a saintly life worthy of emulation. A good man, they say, is known by the content of his character. He was, indeed, a good man, an erudite, distinguished and accomplished Professor who always remained resolute when convinced about any good and just course, and ready to fight to finish, if that is what it will take, to ensure justice prevailed, no matter who was involved.

The world of academics has lost a brilliant scholar, a genius, an academic warrior, a perfectionist, a doyen of Manufacturing Engineering, an academic giant, and a Godly gentleman. Emma, we will miss you, we will miss your wise counsel, we will miss your humane disposition, and we will miss your usual prompt interventions at critical moments.

Fare thee well my bosom friend. The holy angels can’t wait to have you in their outstretched arms to take you straight to your creator. Goodbye.

Major General Victor Ezugwu -

EULOGY TO PROF EMMANUEL OKECHUKWU EZUGWU: A COLOSSUS AND ENGINEERING GURU

At the twilight of the Nigeria Civil War in the early 1970’s, my late father Chief Patrick Igweagu Ezugwu of Ukehe and his bosom friend late Chief Simon Ezugwu of Opi became the leading business men and entrepreneur in Nsukka town. Both families were united and related in a manner that the artificial boundary created by our different towns of origin was jettisoned because the family bonding was so strong that we their children grew up assuming we we're blood relations. The intimacy waxed even stronger after the death of our patriarchs and matriarchs to the glory of God.

In retrospecting the trajectories of life and times of Prof Emmanuel Okechukwu Ezugwu, it will be instructive to affirm that while he spent the better part of highly successful engineering career at Warwick and later South Bank Universities in UK, the rest of our family local champions like Chief Joel, Igwe Willie, Sunday and Tony my senior brothers and I sustained our family ties and nutured our brotherhood. Matter of factly, God has always being there for us all as we made our marks in various fields of human endeavours.

Prof Emmanuel Okechukwu Ezugwu by every standard was an accomplished genius and academic wizard who first conquered his age long obsession for having a stint of diaspora ivory tower career and later returned home to serve his fatherland.

The warrior traits that run like a virus in the blood streams of our families came to the fore when Prof joined the Nigerian Airforce as the pioneer Provost of the Airforce Institute of Technology Kaduna. Prof Ezugwu nurtured this centre of excellence from its infancy to its present status for an incredible period spanning over 10 years. The incumbent Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Sadiq Baba Abubakar honoured him by naming the institutions library after him.

When it became imperative to bid the civil service goodbye, he retired meritoriously with unblemished records in 2019.

Indeed I make bold to affirm that unlike other erudite Nigerian academia abroad, Prof Ezugwu's think-home- philosophy brought his richly endowed academic prowess back to his beloved country Nigeria. By so doing, the benefits to his family, Enugu State and Nigeria have continued in great preponderance and in an unimaginable dimensions.

Consequently, Prof Ezugwu has phenomenally conquered impressively
in both spheres of diaspora and in the national ecosystem.

When Prof Ezugwu broke the news of his retirement from the service of the Nigerian Airforce, DICON Management under my watch did not hesitate to offer him a consultancy appointment in order to tap from his abundant innovative and inventive traits ganered after several decades of professional academic engament. Little wonder that in a very seamless manner, Prof Emma facilitated the registration of DICON Institute of Technology by the National Board for Technical Education and also attracted a strategic R&D support from Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) just at the eve of his demise.

It was precisely on Wednesday 16 September that both of us had 4 different telephone conversations as I briefed him on the outcome of my meeting with Prof Elias Suleiman Bogoro, Executive Secretary TETFUND. During our discussion, I proposed a meeting with him on the next day but he declined the appointment to enable him take his beloved wife to Abuja Airport enroute London for Ginika’s wedding. We therefore rescheduled the meeting on Friday 18 September 2020. To my utter shock and surprise, AVM CN Udeagulu, former Commandant AFIT called me up by 09:35 hrs on Thursday morning to break the news of the demise of Prof Emmanuel Ezugwu in early hours of same day.

On behalf of my wife, Children, entire management and staff of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), I want to express our immense gratitude to the Almighty God for the life and times of Prof Emmanuel Okechukwu Ezugwu. He left immeasurable legacies which the future generation will continue to learn from. It is obvious that Prof Ezugwu belongs to those geniuses whose fountain of knowledge and earthly contributions will always be cherished, especially in the world of engineering and technological innovation.

To the jewel and amazon of Prof Emmanuel Okechukwu Ezugwu Dynasty, Mrs Patricia Ezugwu and his adorable children, Ginika, Nnaemeka, Emmanuel Jr and entire members of Ezugwu Family, I urge you all to please take heart and be strong. Prof Emmanuel Ezugwu shared the same name with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. May He who is the same yesterday, today and forever proclaim DIVINE MERCY on his soul as he approach the infallible judgement in the hope of Heaven.

Finally, as your candle burns out today, please be assured that my unbroken love and that of my wife Appolonia, Ogonna, Dikachi and Ebube for you will never cease till eternity when we shall meet in God's bossom to part no more.

Emmanuel Ogbonnaya Nnaekpe –

CONDOLENCE MESSAGE

My wife and I received with rude shock the transition to glory of our brother and friend, Prof. Emmanuel Ezugwu; with deepest sympathy, I write to commiserate with you and your family particularly, Mrs. Emmanuel Ezugwu (your mum) for this irreplaceable loss of a man full of life and endowed with disposition to meaningful friendship. At the emergence of the news of his demise, it was difficult to come to terms with that message as my memory immediately rekindled the intimate friendly relationship, I had with my name sake. I remember my last meeting with him in the company of our friend, Prof. Sunny Nwankwo at his Kaduna based Airforce Polytechnic where he was a Provost. I also remember that he and I had conversation on phone on my arrival in London at the peak of the coronavirus in April this year; little did I know that it was to be our last live conversation.

Memory of our closeness during our working lives in London will be exceedingly difficult to erase and I will ever remember him as a natural and very enthusiastic friend and a brother. I will continue to remember his unassuming and down-to-earth nature.

His death will continue to exhume painful feelings without a doubt, but be consoled by the fact that Prof. Emmanuel Ezugwu lived a fulfilled life and will ever be remembered by those he was instrumental to giving a platform for completion of their educational pursuit and this bears eloquent testimony to many who have come from far and near to pay their last respect to this illuminous and inspirational individual who has written his name in the sand of time.

Arapa (as he was fondly called), will be sorely missed by those who knew him and mostly those who have had opportunity to interact with him. We console with you and the entire family of the late Prof. Emmanuel Ezugwu. Our thoughts are with you, your siblings and, your mum; we pray that God will give you and your entire family strong heart at this painful time and the fortitude to bear the loss of your father our friend.

We would have to remind ourselves a passage of the scriptures that warns us of the imminent coming of the time: the time to be born and a time to die" (Ecclesiastes 3:1). As he has been called out of this life of vanity, may God grant him eternal rest in His bosom.

May God continue to protect and guide you and the entire family Prof. Emmanuel Ezugwu.

Sincerely yours

Emmanuel Ogbonnaya Nnaekpe

My tribute to Prof. Emma Ezugwu.
Good people makes their exit from this world faster than evil people. I lack words to express my grief over the passing on of a great father and friend like you. You touched lives without leaving a space of doubt in our heart. Indeed I will remain grateful to God for the life time opportunity to know you sir. Prof. Emmanuel Ezugwu has definitely left an indelible impact. Pls accept my deepest sympathy and may his gentle soul rest in peace.

Tribute to a Quintessential Giant:
On behalf of the family of late Chief D.C Ugwu, I write to commiserate with the enitre Ezugwu family on the transition to eternal glory of their son, father and brother Engr. Professor Emmanuel Okechukwu Ezugwu.

The news of your death sent shock waves to those who knew you. This was the least/last news many of us expected to hear. We know death is an inevitable end and a price any living mortal ahs to pay, but this time for our own erudite professor. You were full of life, a jolly good fellow and a man with dreams. Tongues started wagging and questions were asked- "what must have happened to professor Ezugwu; which professor; Are you sure; can this be true?" These and many more questions rented the air. Alas, it was confirmed that death had scored another cheap victory. All the dreams and struggles have come to an unexpected end. What a painful reality. Nsukka land, Enugu state and Nigeria has lost a rare gem. You were a man who could never hide yourself in a crowd. Your presence exhumed self-confidence and belief. You fought for the interest of your fatherland. Cheerful and friend to all regardless of class and status. Only those who had been privileged to come in contact with you would perhaps have noticed the tremendously high personality traits you exhibited during your life time.

To the entire Ezugwu family, I know words alone are definitely not enough to express the deep pains you are passing through as a result of this irreparable loss, but I urge you not to lose faith in Almighty God whom it has pleased that your father and brother should ascend to His heavenly throne. Be consoled and courageous. Rely on Psalm 147:3 - "HE HEALS THE BROKEN HEARTED AND BINDS UP THEIR WOUNDS"

IT IS WELL.

Ezema Chidera John -

I am honoured to say a few words about my Uncle Prof. I spoke with him a week before his death, his sense of humour was one of a kind. You're like a mirror and when the mirror is broken you no longer see your image. On that dreadful day (17/Sept/2020) that you departed this world to join the saints it has not been same again for me.

Uncle Prof you were the mirror at which I looked at my life, the mirror at which I looked at myself and now that you are gone my life is so empty that I feel it in my soul. My solace is the fact that you live a righteous life. Every moments of your life is like a book on a path towards heavenly bliss. Uncle Prof when I close my eyes the image of you is all I see. The summary of our togetherness from cradle to your exit lingers on my mind, our plans are left unfinished you have kept me in the middle of no where! Don't know where to start from to forge ahead but God knows why, your death have created a memory that even death cannot erase.

Your departure has made me broken and transformed me into a man. Not by gender but by willingness to do what great men do knowing that death is the end of every mortal. The transformation that life is vain and everything in it is vanity.

This death won’t separate us as I would soon grow old and exit just like you did and we meet again soon to continue as father and son. Then my son also would pay tribute to me like I am doing this morning to your blessed memory.
Rest in the Lord true soldier of faith. Adieu my mirror.

STEELY GOODBYE: Eulogy for Professor Emmanuel Okechukwu Ezeugwu.
36 days gone, still so silent and away.
STOBA'76 Family prayerfully waiting.
Destination unknown.
No parting signs, no last words.
Goodbye, difficult to say.

Untainted memories of STC billow menacingly.
5-year journey with social streaming.
We joyfully cut our teeth for Tomorrow.
With staunch academic, religious and moral foundation.
Together, we weaved inseparable relationship. Goodbye, not feasible.

Emma, among the triumvirate that formed the STOBA'76 Family.
You never abandoned us.
So caring, empathetic and free.
Lending ready assistance to deserved members.
Goodbye, a big issue.

Unruptured memories of Emma sticks.
Our hearts swollen with love of you.
Love that reinvigorates.
And an immutable gift from you.
How can we easily say Goodbye?

But as an ardent Catholic,
Romans 6:5 suffices for Emmanuel.
He who obeys God shall not die.
Prof. is not dead.
Being lowered in the grave today,
STOBA'76 FAMILY, sorrowfully wish, Professor Emmanuel Ezeugwu, a steely Goodbye.

Goodbye, Emma.
Goodbye,man of the people.
Goodbye,a professed STOBA'76 member.

INVITEES WITHOUT THE HOST:Ode to Professor Emmanuel Ezeugwu (1959-2020)
Preparations are in top gear.
Banks roughened and donations pouring in.
Energies muscled.
Creativity put at fore.
Emotions smartly bottled.
Eye lids heavy with tears.
Yet, anxiety is high.
17th September 2020,an ugly date.
Lying huge, still and lonely in a cost room.
Horrendous news filtered out.
Prof.has extended an invitation deep in the night.
STOBA'76 Family, terribly bemused.
Grudgingly, the invitation is accepted.
Though smarting with the invitation,we are eager to re-assemble after 44 years.
23rd October,a dark day for interment.
The host to be to be lowered motionlessly to the dark bowel of the earth.
The end of a rich earthly journey of 60 years.
Friendship and comradarie ended.
Loaded certificates idly rusty.
Humility, empathy and jokey engagement gone.
Emma lives in our hearts.
He is not dead.
Oxymoronic,our conurbation is.
Prof Emma has re-united the Great Boys.
We shall forge ahead as a STOBA'76 FAMILY.
Adieu, Prof Emma Ezeugwu.
Adieu,a worthy STOBAN.

Dearest Prof,

We can't believe you are no more. We can just picture your hearty laughter and loud voice.
You were so full of life, it is so sad that you had to leave the way you did. You had so much to offer to the world, you were willing to share your knowledge at any given time.
We are still in shock that you've passed on, we still can't believe it. The thing that strikes us the most is your humility, you took us under your wings and could discuss anything be it politics, wealth or family. You loved your family and your country hence why you left the comfort of UK, a place where you achieved so much to go back to Nigeria to give back to the community.
You left a legacy and a big shoe which will be difficult to fill but we believe Ginika, Emeka, Obum and your lovely wife Patty will keep the light burning.

Adieu Prof, rest in the bosom of our Lord till we meet again.

FAREWELL MY CHAIRMAN
People will forget what you told them but not how you made them feel. This day for me is a sad one because your absence will hurt. From a simple act of kindness picking me up at a London train station in 1996 our friendship progressed to in our extended families. You won’t be forgotten as meeting you and relating with you all these years was such a wonderful feeling.

It is also a happy day because today, we remind ourselves that you have gone for your reward with our merciful Heavenly Father. You loved people and you were respectful and kind to all who had the opportunity to meet you. How you treated people is all you now have as you return to meet your creator. And so, I, who received from your abundant life is a living witness.

As your priest, I have the impetus to pray for you and your family as I celebrate the Holy Mass.
Rest on Prof and keep your beloved Igbo Nska in mind. As our Chairman in UK during our nascent years, I am sure you won’t forget us in Heaven.

May the soul of Prof Emmanuel Ezugwu and all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.

TRIBUTE TO MY FRIEND AND BROTHER
LE PROFESSEUR EMMA ODOGWU
I and Emma met in the seventies through his elder brother Joel, my classmate in Engineering School at UNN. We bonded very fast. During those our undergraduate years, I and Joel would drive to Idah to see Emma and we grooved together. One remarkable trip to Idah was in 1981 when I and Joel visited Idah to principally convey Emma back to Nsukka after his final exams. While we were there, the news of his outstanding academic performance in his exit exams filtered out. He was liked and respected by his classmates and friends and was popularly called EMMA ODOGWU.
Upon our graduation, Emma went for studies in England while I travelled to Brussels for mine. Emma fished me out despite the constraints in communication then. Our friendship blossomed despite our tight academic programmes. I recall his surprise visits to me in Brussels then when he would always take advantage of the 36 bucks promotion return tickets. He would barge into my apartment while I was away and wait to surprise me. We spent time like friends and brothers and exchanged our plans for our future. I was there at his Doctorate convocation in Warwick University back in Summer, 1986.
Emma took up appointment with the Warwick University thereafter while I returned to Nigeria, but our friendship continued to grow. His appointment as the pioneer Provost of NAFIT, Kaduna brought him closer home and to us his friends and brothers.
Our brotherly friendship blossomed till he passed away. Emma confided in me on lots of issues like a brother does. We were neighbors in Lokogoma for nearly 9 years before he moved to his Asokoro residence late last year. We worshipped in the same church most times he was in town. Emma chaired my daughter’s wedding reception and was close to my family just the way my father and his were close in their days as students back in the 30s.
Coming to terms with Emma’s demise is a big challenge for us all but I pray God will console us.

When I learned the news of his death on the internet, I can not express my surprise and sadness.

I met him at a conference in Ireland in 2004. My contact with him continued with his invitation to London. During the 21 days we stayed with my wife, the care and attention she showed us could not be explained. Later he came to Turkey twice for conferences. On one occasion, we went to Kuşadası, a car journey with him. He was a guest in the same conference in Istanbul on his second visit.

He was kind enough to be in the editorial group of Journal od Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, published by Yıldız Technical University. His humility was excellent…

I definetaly know that he will be in heaven…

I wish patience to his family.

An irreplaceable personality and scientist ...

Dear Prof, as a friend, brother and fellow academic, you will always be missed.

My Dear Prof Ezugwu, Friend and Brother,

It was with great sadness that I learned only late last night (6th October) of your most untimely passing from this world into the next. Paulette and I are this morning reeling as the enormity of this news begins to take hold. However, my Dear Prof, the sense of grief and loss we feel is nothing as compared to the pain and anguish, which your beloved wife, Patricia and your three cherished offsprings, Ginikanwa, Nnaemeka and Obumneme must be experiencing at this time. We wish to convey our thoughts, sympathy and heartfelt condolences not only to your cherished family unit, but also to the wider and no less significant extended families of the Ezugwu’s and the Umeano’s.

Dear Prof, your untimely passing will now and henceforth impact all our lives in at least three highly significant ways: it is and will be personally, professionally and internationally felt. For in you, we have lost a man - a stalwart - whose passion for family, professional integrity, thirst for learning and flourishing and whose individual drive to contribute to the technical and academic development of Nigeria and other nations, will not be surpassed.

Dear Prof, as a friend, brother and fellow academic, you will always be missed.

May you rest in internal peace.

Prof, The Great Man

The news of your death was so heartbreaking. It's unbelievable that we will not see you again. So much unfinished business. Kelechi, your Godson was waiting for your guidance and this happened. You were such a remarkable man, one with extraordinary passion for life, friends, family and humanity. You were so down to earth and ever available to provide support when needed. I was shocked to hear about your demise.
At this point, I can only thank God Almighty for the life you lived and pray that you are in His bossom forever.
I pray for Pat and your lovely children that God will comfort them at this very difficult time. I pray for the entire Ezugwu family for strength to bear this devastating loss.

ADIEU THE GREATMAN OF HONOUR.

From Uchenna Ngwu-Igwe, Kelechi and Kesandu Igwe
