A Letter to my Daddy

Hey Dad,
I still find it really hard to believe that you are gone and I have to write a tribute to you now. It all dawned on me the day Mummy told us that we have to write a tribute to you. Wow, this is really hard... There's no word in this world to describe you Daddy. You were and are still my role model. I am so happy and proud to be called your daughter, when I hear or read of the things you have done, it gives me great joy and I pray to be like you and even better. I wish you could have stayed longer on Earth but God has a reason for everything.

Thank you so much for being there for me at every part of my life both happy and sad moments Daddy. You are a real definition of a great Father. Thank you much for being a great, caring, loving, hard working, selfless, humble, strong, intelligent, indefatigable Dad.
I will miss you so much, your smiles, your jokes, your food, your word of encouragement and wisdom. I love you so much Daddy.
Rest on at the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ Daddy till we meet to part no more.

From Ifeoluwa Victory Adegoke,
Your first daughter.

Aremu Temi, I miss you everyday. Since your demise, life looks so empty without you, the house is quiet, the children weep and miss you everyday. But we take solace in the fact that you made it and that you are in a better place. Neither has it been easy not seeing you around the house any longer calling us every morning to come out for the family devotion and giving us your special meals.

What a pity, we can no longer enjoy those your funny jokes, story telling, joyous singing and hilarious dances. You were such a one in a million of caring fathers, loving husbands and lived sacrificial life for all who ever came across you.

You were such a great gift to humanity, very generous and always ready to help even to a fault.

You were more than a husband to me, you were my elder brother and tripled as a father to me. I married you with no degree and you supported me wholeheartedly to further my education to a Masters Degree level. You were a wonderful husband and benefactor.
You were very caring, always concerned about other people's challenges and desiring to profer solution. You were principled and calm, always looking resolutely to the future for better days inspite of all challenges. You never had any grudge with anyone, always ready to confront the devil with the truth, come what may. I salute your courage, a saint of the Lord, a great soldier of Christ. If you had any problem with anyone, it was as a result of your hatred for insincerity. You were not easily offended, humble, ready to forgive and make things right. Always ready to give your best not only to your family members but to humanity.

I remembered how you begged me on that Tuesday morning to drive you down to the office to see some of your students, sign their final thesis and see other people.

Hmmm, I can go on and on. To say that your children and I are miss you is an understatement but we trust God to carry us through this new journey until we all see again on the Resurrection Morning to part no more.
Good night my love

Uncle Jire,
We bow in total submission to the will of God.
You lived a good and accomplished life, you were a God fearing man. Your love for aunty was obvious. You were #couplegoals.
We lost greatness on the 12th of January, the news of your passing came after I heard of Mama London's passing on the same day.
In all things, we judge God faithful. Till we meet again, we will forever thank God for the blessing that your life was.
I'll miss celebrating your birthday the same day as my sister's.
Sleep on, beloved.
Forever missed, forever loved.

Our beloved Jire,
In all things we give thanks, for this is God's will for us.
We thank God for your life and the beautiful memories we shared. We thank God for the blessing that your life was. Your grace and gentle spirit are things we can never, never forget about you.
This is one too many.
But who are we to question the ALMIGHTY GOD, OUR CREATOR.
WE ARE DEEPLY, DEEPLY HURT AND PAINED.
We judge God faithful in all things, despite how hurt we are at your passing away.
We will hold on to the light you have shared.
Sleep on dearly beloved, sleep on and take thy rest!

*_Sun set too soon_*
The sun rises and sets at different times depending on seasons. Sometimes it rises early and set late, at another time it rises early and sets early. Prof. Olajire, you can be likened to a sun that set early. 12th day of January when the news filtered to us first, we were hopeful that it will end up being a rumor. But later the painful and unbelievable news of your demise struck like lightening and all of us are yet to recover. The word of God tells us that there is a time for everything under heaven. The only thing we can do is to accept the fact that you are gone and then give God thanks for giving you to us (your immediate and extended families) and calling you home at His own time. Ps. 139:16
You are more than a pastor, father, leader, mentor and a brother to all that came in contact with you. Therefore, all we need to do is to reassure ourselves that you have gone to a better place. You are now at rest, no pain, no care, no weeping can ever mar your joy. For you, to die is gain. For us to live is Christ until He calls us to Himself in glory.
Prof. Olajire, we remembered your servant heartedness that made people feel welcome around you at all times. You displayed a good amount of fruit of the spirit – loving care, boundless joy, endless patience, practical kindness and goodness, going along with steady reliability and gentle humility.
Sleep on until we meet at the feet of the master on that glorious resurrection morning.
Shalom
*_Rev. & Mrs. Olufemi Olusunde.*

THE LIFE AND TIME OF LATE PROFESSOR OLAJIRE AREMU ADEGOKE

It is on record that late Prof. Aremu Olajire Adegoke was born on the 21st August, 1970 in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria. He had his nursery school education at the Oke elerin Baptist Nursery School, Ogbomoso (1973-1975). He attended the Osupa Baptist Day Primary School, Ogbomoso (1975-1977), St. Joseph Primary School, Vom, Plateau State (1977 - 1979) and then again Osupa Baptist Day Primary School (1979-1981).

Due to serious family financial crises, he had to accompany his mother to sell vegetables, cooked groundnuts and was a regular hand at building sites in later primary school years. After his primary education, he proceeded to the Baptist Secondary Grammar School Ahoyaya, Ogbomoso (1981 - 1986). Enabled by God's grace, he graduated as the overall best graduating student (8 'A' and 1 'C') and as the best graduating student in Additional Mathematics, Chemistry, Economics and Geography. He was a part-time bar waiter at the Terminus Hotel, Oja`gbo Ogbomoso all throughout his secondary school years.

For his higher education, he was at the Federal School of Medical Laboratory, Jos, Plateau State (1987-1989). He was on the distinction roll at the school throughout his studentship. Due to his desire to acquire a University degree and by God's leading (which he did not know then); he gained admission to study Pharmacy at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Jos in 1989, after two previous failed attempts with the JAMB Matriculation Examination. Enabled by the grace of God once again, he graduated in 1995 (due to ASUU strike) with an overall distinction, which due to the declassification of the Bachelor of Pharmacy degree translates to a First Class degree. He was the best overall graduating student and best student in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy and Clinical Pharmacy. He won eight out of the nine convocation prizes available then in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Jos. The grace of God was demonstrated as he studied Pharmacy as a part-time student because he was saddled with the responsibilities of managing the family grinding machine business (the only one in the University quarters) and a then flourishing, one and only, mini supermarket in the Bauchi Road Staff quarters in the University of Jos.

By God's special favour and grace, he was specially invited to the prestigious National Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), Idu-Abuja as the pioneer Intern Pharmacist (1995-1996) after a brief stint as an Intern Pharmacist at the Pharmacy Department, Jos University Teaching Hospital (September, 1995). Due to God's evident grace, he was granted the status of a Junior Research Fellow at NIPRD for three months prior to National Youth Service. He had his mandatory National Youth Service at the General Hospital, Dutse, Jigawa State (1996-1997).

After a brief General Pharmacy Practice at MICONY Pharmacy, Jos, he gained admission to study for MSc in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Ibadan and he completed the degree with an overall distinction in 1999. He completed his PhD in Pharmaceutical Analysis and Synthetic Chemistry from the same Department, after seven semesters of part-time registration (minimum semester is 8 for part-time registration), in 2005. These are also, once again, evidences of God's grace upon his life.
`
Late Professor Jire Adegoke was a recipient of many scholarships, prizes, fellowships, grants and opportunities divinely arranged by God. He was a University of Jos Scholar from 1991-1995. He also miraculously received Chemical and Allied Products (CAPL) Plc undergraduate scholarship (1991-1994, 3 years) and Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited undergraduate scholarship (1991-1995, 4 years) awards. During his Master's programme, he was "mistakenly" awarded the University of Ibadan's Graduate Assistant-ship (August 1998 - December 1999) which was divinely sufficient for him to complete the MSc programme.
During his PhD programme, he was awarded the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation grant that enabled him to visit the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. He won four prizes (two each in 2007 and 2009) for publications of articles from PhD, a scheme initiated by the Postgraduate School, University of Ibadan.
