~ Obituary ~

He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much;

who has enjoyed the trust of pure women,

the respect of intelligent men and the love of little children;

who has filled his niche and accomplished his task;

who has left the world better than he found it

whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul;

who has never lacked appreciation of Earth's beauty

or failed to express it; who has always looked for the best in others and given them the best he had; whose life was an inspiration;

whose memory a benediction.

(Bessie Anderson Stanley)

It was the most joyous occasion in the life of Arabella Forbes, when on July 16th, 1968; she welcomed the newest edition to her family a beautiful baby girl whom she named Psyche Prestina: Psyche is derived Greek meaning “the Soul” She was indeed a sweet soul.

The Bible declares in I Timothy 1:9 “Who has saved us and called us with the holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which granted to us in Christ Jesus all eternity.” God’s grace and blessings were evident early in her life. As time progressed it was obvious that Psyche was no ordinary child, from a very young age she displayed diligent and steadfast devotion to her God and King.

Psyche was raised in the “over the hill community” at her family home on Wulf Road next the old Yellow Bird Club. Dedicated and practicing Anglicans she was baptized and confirmed at St. Barnabas Anglican Church.

She was kind hearted and loving and would embrace the down trodden. Her radiance illuminated a room and persons gravited towards her. Psyche took every opportunity to sing the highest praise. Without judgment she would always offer a word of wise counsel and point all in the right direction.

She was a person full of laughter; she was a leader and role model to all who had good fortune to meet her.”If I can help somebody as I pass along, then my living will not be vain” this was her creed and the way she literally lived her life.

Psyche received her education at William Gordon Primary School, D.W. Davis Junior and R. M. Bailey Secondary Schools. She graduated in 1985 as the class president. She remained a true Pacer.

She was an industrious hardworking individual and she learnt the value of hard work early in life. Shortly after graduating From High School she worked at Eddies Department Store. Later in 1989, she joined the team of professional at CitiTrust Bahamas. As a result of her hard work, diligence and dedication she transitioned from a temporary employee to a Assistant Manager of Special Services, until the time of her demise.

Psyche lived an amazing life even though it was short. She was a woman who was kind and generous. She loved all of her friends and family with such joy and pride. She always strived for excellence and she encouraged everyone around her to do the same. She was very positive and could see and show us the bright side of any situation. She believed that there was good in everything. She was a task master, troop leader a great organizer, once a plan was articulate she would rally the team and execute it. Her circle of friends included experts for almost any project.

Orson F. Whitney writes “No pains, that we suffer, no trial we experience is wasted. It ministers to our education, to the development of such qualities as patients, faith, fortitude and humility. All that we suffer and all we endure, especially when we endure patiently, builds up our character, purifies our hearts, expands our souls, and makes us more tender and charitable, more worthy to be called children of God.”

Psyche was diagnosed with cervical cancer. At first, it appeared that she surgery and chemotherapthy had arrested the disease, but tragically doctors later confirmed that she would have new challenges. Through all her traveling, hospitalization, and surgeries she remained positive, never complaining about her health. Never complaining; when she was asked how she was doing she would usually respond “child I am fine” or “taking one day at a time”.

Psyche enjoyed the love, comfort and support of her family and friends, especially during the last days. She continued to be Strong, proud and supportive woman; she always had a positive outlook on life and kept believing in brighter days. She was the central figure in her immediate and extended family, the respected advisor, confidant, and unifying force. She was loved and will be greatly missed by all.

“So when this corruptible has put on incorruption and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: death is swallowed up in victory.” 1 Corinthians 15:54. Christians reflecting on this verse are reminded that even though our bodies die, we don’t spiritually. Psyche physical death only means that she has given up her immortal body. When Christ comes He will raise her up and she shall be clothed in immortality. Death will lose its grips on her as she shall be changed. She now has the victory, which is in Christ Jesus. Death does not have the final word in the lives of the believers. Psyche Believed! Thanks be to God. Amen…
