RIP Rab no more pain, we will sorely miss your mischievous, sarcastic, dry sense of humour, such an Origonal fun, caring
+ sharing character that can never be replicated, held in the highest Regard and deeply Respected by your close colleagues, Military brothern and Sisters and also by those you commanded and those who served with and under you. You made us all proud as a 20 Transport Squadron and RCT RLC Ambassador and an International Peace Keeper in Kosove, Iraq and Northern Ireland, we were honoured to have spent special times with you, your modesty surpassed your Sterling efforts and worldly achievements throughout your short but valued and most definately well lived life, not a day was ever wasted! Making your Mum, Dad, Sister, extended Family, Christina and Megan and all of us who knew you so, so, so very proud. NIL SINE LABORE

Rab, when you walked into our office at Prodrive and announced yourself as the chairman’s new driver and I commented about you being the latest one. You laughed and said ‘are you taking bets on how long I last here?’ From that moment we became instant mates, having a good laugh whilst you waited for the chairman, with you always being early! That friendship continued beyond our Prodrive days.
You had a heart of gold, guinely one of the nicest chaps we’ve ever met.
RIP Rab, you daft, funny, kind, brave wonderful man.

Rab, my dear friend, I still can’t believe you’ve gone. We had some bloody good laughs. Nights in Camden Town ( u going to town....No) . One Saturday, a lad I met on my jcb course turned up at 20sqn ( I only chatted him up to get through the course ‍♀️) we all went to Camden, I didn’t want him there, so u pulled rank on me and told me I was on guard later on, just to get rid of him lol, cheers mate . U encouraged me to run and u accompanied on the grt south run, that was hard, but u fed me oat cake to get me round lol . I could go on, but hun, u will never be forgotten , will miss u loads, RIP my friend. Hope u out of pain and having a bloody good laugh❤️❤️Xxxxx

Rab,

My great friend and my ARMY brother, I will miss all the future fun and stupidity we were bound to have. I will miss you complaining that it is 10 degrees warmer outside the car when we are traveling down to a reunion or AvN game. i miss the Wolf Runs we did nearly freezing to death and the dedication and training you put in for your Iron man despite it all you always had a smile. i miss the good times and jokes we had.

Rest well brother and save us a space at the bar as the good times are not over only on pause.

Rab since we met both our lives were turned upside down. We clicked from day one we had something so precious. We really were two of a kind in every way. I'm so sorry that you are no longer here and I miss you with everything that I have. Megan found a real father figure and a best mate in you and we both will love you until eternity. I just wish we could have one last kiss, one last touch but will treasure our memories forever. I love you Mr Saunders. I will never let your flame die xxxxxxxxx

His Life

Rab ❤

March 17, 2021
Rab started his journey on 15th January 1969 when he was born in hospital in Ashby-de-la-Zouch Leicestershire. Named Ivan John Saunders.

Rab was always a keen runner, joined the scouts then at 17 joined the Army. Throughout his career he worked in the transport field, primarily as a VIP/Close Protection Driver.  He served in Germany, UK, USA, Canada, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Austria, Poland and has seen Operational experience tours in Iraq, Kosovo and Northern Ireland.

Rab made friends in every job he worked at after he left the army in 2009.
Rab loved running and competed in several mud runs, triathlons, half marathons, full marathons but his biggest accomplishment was his Ironman in 2019. He was a proud man and rightly so.

Rab will leave a big hole in everyones life who knew and loved him.

Rab, forever our idiot! Over.

March 17, 2021
Where to start with memories of Rab! The first time I met him properly was in his garden in Radway, wearing the most horrific red Hawaiian shirt, beige shorts, socks and sandals! Apparently this was known as his bbq outfit! Just wow! He gave me a handful of peanut M&Ms.. such an odd man!
Christmas meals! He never failed to make the night fun! Even when he attempted to give me a science lesson all about gravity and why we don’t fall off the earth if we are stood at the North Pole! Only Rab would ever understand my world theory! He had diagrams on napkins and all sorts! On Remembrance Day 2019 he taught my son Jacob how to March like a real soldier! He inspired Jacob and he now does Beavers! The way Rab stood for his 2 minute silence was just breathtaking. You couldn’t ask for a prouder man! During lockdown, I turned into Rabs adoptive mum ensuring he had lunch every weekend! Only because he conveniently turned up at our house after his date with the washing machine for a hot cheese baguette! He would alway repay us with a can, sometimes even a crate of Diet Pepsi! He taught Josie, my daughter how to rub her tummy and tap her head! What a talent! His useless facts were always so funny! And really bad! Rab would always sit outside our house, in his car and use our WiFi! Rab never failed to make us laugh! He is such a loved man from all of my family, he was the idiot who works in B&Q! Our idiot forever! RIP Rab! Over.

First date

March 17, 2021
So if it wasnt bad enough it was lockdown during a global pandemic... I had never been on a date in over 20 years and I was about to meet what I now know as the man of my dreams.. my lost soulmate ❤
Obviously Rab didn't make things easy for either of us... firstly he arrived at our meeting place one hour early. Being a single mum I had things to juggle before I got there so arrived 11am on the dot. He had thought I wasn't coming. He never told me he has to be 15 minutes early wherever he goes. I soon learnt this! I wish I could have taken a photo of my very first sighting of him.. let me explain he got out of his car Jean's, jumper nothing special then that's when I saw him walking over to my car in flippers and a snorkel! Yep that's right! I had told him on the phone I was a qualified scuba diver and this was his tribute to me. So my nerves were gone and as he said "I will never forget our first date". ❤❤❤
