Dr. Rae Davis blazed a trail of service and loyalty to education in Jamaica that has given direction, focus and national pride to all the colleagues he has nurtured and mentored in our country, even when other distractors tempted us towards other values. This gentle giant was a friend who demanded excellence from friends and colleagues with a smile, and often rewarded us with a "job well done" and a hearty handshake. I miss him but will always remember his friendship and especially his support to my family during a difficult period of illness we experienced.
From my family to his, especially to his widow Jemelia and the Davis clan, may the loving memories that you hold dear about him bring comfort and joy in knowing that 'Dr. Rae' made a positive impact in the lives of many students, teachers, administrators, policy makers, family members and friends.
May our Risen Lord grant his Soul rest and peace.

Hector Wheeler, Associate Vice President, Advancement, UTech Jamaica

I have always described Dr the Hon Rae Davis, OJ, as a gentle giant. He had a gigantic and seemingly over-ambitious vision for the University which he cleverly convinced us to treat as an urgent imperative. With very meagre resources, Dr Davis successfully led the mammoth task of transitioning the College of Arts, Science and Technology to a world class university. He rallied the staff, students and a wide range of other influential stakeholders to jointly build the nation’s university and create a future for our children and the country.
Dr Davis’ uniquely warm and engaging personality was that magnet that pulled the large force together and kept the team focused in spite of the challenging hurdles and the drudgery of the days when success seemed a mere mirage. He had an interest in everyone and made each person feel special in his own way… without fanfare. His words were always measured but very impactful. He touched so many, so deeply in a quiet and unassuming manner.
He made an indelible impact on my life as a mentor. I am eternally grateful we crossed paths and I will forever cherish his memory

As a leader in the CAST/UTech community I was very happy to have an Engineer at the helm during that juncture of Dr. Davis' professional life and the evolution of the institution. Dr. Davis added structure, strengthened the governance and policy framework and highlighted the resonance between technology and creativity...... and did I mention he was great to work with? He added great value during his tenure, transforming CAST into the University of Technology, Jamaica. He has made his mark and his legacy lives on. I extend condolences and well wishes to the family. May the peace and comfort of our Lord and Saviour be with you as you reflect on the goodness of God in His life.

It is with sadness that I acknowledge the passing of Dr. Rae Davis. It has been said that a life well-lived is one that touches and makes better the lives of others. In this regard, Dr. Davis has lived well. His contributions to UTech have been considerable and although many of the positive initiatives and institutions by which he enriched UTech will be largely overlooked or forgotten, not so the impact he made on the lives of many members of the UTech community. This will long be remembered. I truly appreciated his gentle demeanor, wry smile, wise and encouraging words which continue to make a positive difference in my life both professional and personal. I am grateful to have met Dr. Davis and to have come under his influence. May he rest in peace and the God of all comfort be with his loved ones at this most painful time.

Dr. Rae Davis helped to build a legacy, Jamaica's National University, for many to embrace. Dr. Rae shaped the new UTech Jamaica with a strong vision of excellence, with hard work, and with meaningful partnerships within the Jamaican, Caribbean and International communities. His professionalism, punctuated with humility, kindness and nurturance, encouraged the entire UTech community to grow with energy and vitality. We missed him when he retired but we kept on track moving forward as an institution. We will remember him lovingly, as he moves on to higher service.
Sincere condolence to his dear wife, Jemelia, and to the entire Davis family. Thank you for sharing this gentle giant especially with UTech, Jamaica and with the Jamaican educational community in general. May his soul find rest and peace in the loving arms of our Risen Lord.

I extend heartfelt condolences to Dr. Davis’ immediate and extended family. It was a pleasure and privilege to have known and worked with him. I had the honour of drafting his speeches and messages for which he always expressed sincere gratitude. Meeting him on my first day of work at UTech, Ja. in July 2002 he asked whether I wanted to interview him right away. Such was his enduring warmth and welcoming nature. I recall his care and concern for the wellbeing and welfare of staff and students evidenced in such initiatives as his introduction of an Organizational Well Being programme that fostered memorable team building activities such as Staff Fun Day. I admired his gentle, calm but effective leadership style which inspired confidence and endeared him to many. He will be greatly missed but his tremendous contribution and legacy at the University will forever live on in our hearts.
Rest well Dr. Davis.

Dr. Rae Davis was an amazing University president I recall sitting in meetings with him as he listened to all that was being said which in most cases lasted about two hours or more. With his quiet demeanor he would summarize the discussion and bring it to a simple conclusion. That kind of leadership is rare and UTech was blessed to have had a president like Dr. Rae Davis May his soul Rest In Peace and rise in glory.

Death is our cruelest enemy and it is so hard to loose our loved ones. To the UTECH family I say, we have the hope of saying goodbye to death forever if we live each day for Jesus. My sincerest condolences to the family of our late president and wish that the peace of God will attain unto us. For those who remain, let’s count our blessings and live with that hope that Jesus will put an end to death one day.

Dr. the Honourable Rae Davis, OJ has been a giving boss, mentor, teacher, and friend to me, and many others. It was a joy working with him. He has left us with many memories of our individual and collective growth and development under his ‘tutelage’. University of Technology, Jamaica continues to be a shining star in his rich legacy. Thank you, Rae! May you rest in peace; sing, climb…and truly dance:

“Then said a teacher, Speak to us of Teaching.
   And he said:
No man can reveal to you aught but that which already lies half asleep in the dawning of your knowledge.
The teacher who walks in the shadow of the temple, among his followers, gives not of his wisdom but rather of his faith and his lovingness.
If he is indeed wise he does not bid you enter the house of his wisdom, but rather leads you to the threshold of your own mind”.
