Our wedding and honeymoon

May 30, 2021
Raf and I were married on one of the hottest days a July has ever seen, in a church that had no air conditioning, and I was half an hour late getting to the church. It was believed no one should see the bride in her dress before the ceremony and people kept coming to the house  for various reasons so I had to keep getting in and  out of my dress!  Even my Raf came to borrow a comb! Luis and Vera came to meet me before the ceremony and I think someone else may have stopped in too. Finally my dress with 48 extremely tiny buttons up the back was done up, but with buttons left over at the top, so they all had  to be undone and re-buttoned. Meanwhile Raf was sweltering in the church basement  in his heavy wool trousers and jacket!
The dinner was at the Sundial and Mom and Dad had arranged for a lovely meal of chicken dressing and veg. They tell me it was delicious but I was so nervous I never ate a bite! There was wine for the side of the family that were not tea totallers and a matching colour of fruit juice for those not in favour of alcohol,  and presented in a way not to offend either group. Our wedding cake was too fresh and when we came to pose to cut it, it took all our might to slice that fruit cake in front of everyone without grimacing.!
After the Sundial we all went up to Mom and Dad's for all sorts of delicious desserts like Nanaimo bars and date squares and many more.I made up there for not having eaten supper.
We had not made any reservations anywhere so when we finally said our goodbyes at 11 pm, we intended to drive straight through to our apartment on William St in Carleton Place (AKA Disney Land). Raf had that lovely white jaguar with the posh cherry wood dashboard and red leather upholstery and we must have been a sight for sore eyes when we set off. But just outside of Peterborough the power steering gave out and we limped along until we found a run of the mill simple motel on the Peterborough bypass. I think it was called the Shadows or the Shady Brook...too many years ago to remember now.
Raf stopped the car and went in to register and the lady came out to watch us park, but  the car could only go to the right, and we went round and round in circles driving through her flower beds, and she was out yelling at us to go the other way and park over there!
The next day we made it safely but slowly to our apartment. However, before our stove arrived from Orillia, Aunt Hannah and Uncle Russ came to call on us. We made an amazing 3 course meal all in the electric frying, even the tea!
Next day our stove arrived smashed from  from Eatons in Orillia. It had been a floor model so as soon as the car was repaired we headed back to Orillia to sort out our refund and we spent the rest of our honeymoon at Mom and Dad's before Dad had to go back to the boat.
Raf and I spent our time molding leftover cake into boxes to send out as souvenirs. It was sticky and could not cut properly and needed to be shaped by hand. I hope everyone just put it under their pillows to dream on for luck and did not eat it!
We also went antique hunting and bought an antique side table that we refinished and cut shorter to make a coffee table and we still have it.
Good memories.
