Randy had  begun a new season of his life when he met Michelle aka Mickey. They had Chaz and Tia came a few years later.  They built a good life together , resided in San Leandro and later would end up  buying a home close to the Oakland border .  At this time , Randy had been an independent contractor as a cable splicer for. many years . He worked very hard , acquired his own lift truck and business was good.  Randy was able to move his family to Brentwood,  California to buy a beautiful brand new home.  He took such pride in his yard, pool and hosting family events , always with a backdrop of good music and the smell of tasty food.  Randy was working underground in Santa Cruz when  a relatively large earthquake hit . The top of a 250 lb man hole came crashing down on his head. The nerves in his neck were  injured  . He  would be forced to retire from splicing at this time and a new journey would be ahead .

A dream come true .., Honolulu Grill

April 10, 2021
In 2004 , Randy’s was in young  50s , he found himself at a place with a new beginning , on his own . He decided to turn to creating the restaurant of his dreams , Honolulu Grill . He started in a trailer on Vasco Road and began to gain popularity .. Randy would  later secure a property in Bethel Island,  California . This was an old post office that he turned into a tropical paradise. It had such a special feeling the moment you walked in . The love and thought that was poured into the restaurant and the fact that his four kids got to help him create it , was an incredibly cherished time. From his well thought of decorations and menu , to the spirit he created . Randy’s vision for  luaus, eating ono food and spreading aloha , had come to life . Randy even had another  chance at love with a beautiful woman named Marie for a few years .  Life would take them in different directions however ,  they remained  friends  until her passing . The plans for Bethel island to grow had been halted with the real estate market  and he decided to close . We are all so proud of his great accomplishment to realize a dream , to create something that was once only a thought . It taught us so much about taking chances , realizing our own dreams  and to be grateful for the good that can come from every situation . Nothing is ever wasted  in life .

Randy had many grandkids that absolutely adore him . When Randy sat on the couch there always be a fight for the seat next to him,  even if it was simply to watch a movie ...he was like a magnet and everyone wanted to be around him .Even in those moments where he was quiet , his presence always had an impact. He would take his grandkids in his famous van on trips to McDonald’s , the park or to the movies Everyone would always call shotgun but dad was fair and always gave it to the eldest that was present. Those are the most treasured times for his grandkids. He is a constant in all of their lives and by far one of the greatest impacts .

April 14, 2021
Overcomer ... Randy Was a cancer survivor.  He went through six months of chemo treatment and had a massive surgery to remove part of his intestines . Other than his hands and feet being really cold , he did not complain.  Randy was very interested in natural medicine reading countless books on homeopathic remedies to illness .   He swore not to do chemo if he ever got sick again . He remained healthy and cancer free . He was scheduled to had  his port removed just a few days after passing .  His strength through it all was another testament to his faith and his character .

Later years... living out his days

April 14, 2021
Randy would travel from Hawaii to the mainland . It was his dream to  split his time between the islands and the mainland . With his health changes , he needed a home base closer to family . Any of us kids would  gladly have made room  for  dad.  Tia , Oj and the kids  ultimately got  the gift of his presence .Yes we were all just a little jealous but they found a dynamic that  really worked  .They got to share daily life  with dad . Being grandpa with Ruthie and Octavio,  helping with the kids, , playing chess with KK , fantasy football bets with OJ .... They got to hang with Pops  in his meticulously clean room , where the dogs would come for treats but no not to step foot inside .  It goes without saying , they are so grateful to have dad around and treated him as such . Helping one another through life , learning from him , pulling from his wisdom  , his presence is such a gift they cherish deeply  and they all celebrated him daily .We are all so thankful dad was happy and cherished.

Card collection in his treasure chest

April 9, 2021
Randy was a card collector meaning birthday cards , Father’s Day cards , Easter cards valentines cards etc...  you name it ! He kept all the cards  that were given to him ... we found them perfectly tucked away as  his treasures . It warmed our heart to know that he values those things from his grandchildren ,friends , in-laws and children .... he treasured every word ever said to him and that is such a reflection of what kind of heart he has ...who values love and relationship over anything else .

Blessed Patriarch of our unique family...

April 15, 2021
Randy was the patriarch of a big family,  his legacy of love and aloha will carry on in each of us .  He was always there , through every season , graduation , birthday, every holiday. He always thought  of each of us and everyone the Lord put in his life,  including Omar, Nena and Jayden . Through the  years,  we all became one big blended family. Life came full circle and that has served our families well . His giving spirit and generous heart  is the glue that binds us together and always will .

Tribute to our Uncle Ty

April 14, 2021
Randy and his brother Ty were like two peas in a pod , In many ways they influenced one another. They were both loved music and could jam of the congas. They were both good looking local guys that also loved to dance. They  share a hysterical sense of humor with a catalog of shared jokes! They made little sports bets , and just had so much fun being brothers . They kind of spoke their own language. We like to believe that Uncle Ty was a little bit more of a rascal than dad and he would influence him  . Ty showed constant love and support for his younger brother . They would take trips together to go visit cousin Pep and went to Hawaii together for special occasions, like when they surprised Uncle George and Auntie Marie  and most recently for our Uncle Wendell’s passing.  However , during the past year of quarantine,  they grew even closer .  They spent a lot of time together at Tia and OJ‘s new house in Brentwood.  Uncle Ty broke in their new kitchen , which was a treat because he is an incredible chef!  They all made many meals together  (Oj and Tia will share some stories in stories section!) . With this last year being quarantined , they really did enjoy the journey of making the most of it.  Ruthie and Octavio (Oj's parents) got to know Uncle Ty well too. They made a lot of great memories this past year  .  Our dear uncle passed just 3 days before our dad . We believe there has to be more to this than we could ever understand.   We hope they continued to have adventures in paradise .We love him and are so grateful for the bond they share in life and in heaven.

Quiet strength

April 15, 2021
Randy was not a  man of many words or an over thinker. He just said and did things from the heart. It makes you realize that you don’t have to be bold or loud or extremely ambitious to have a great impact . Sometimes  God simply reaches in and uses  the quiet strength of man’s life  to speak the greatest volumes to the  world around them .  Dad had such genuine laughter and  love . Our dad's life exudes so much compassion, patience and understanding  . He has such an unassuming demeanor that he probably does not even recognize how deeply he has impacted all that love him . His life speaks volumes to us. We are eternally grateful and blessed to call Randy our dad and grandpa . A man  filled with Gods love and a spirit of aloha!
