Raymond Harris, born to the late Dave and Francis Harris on
June 18, 1949 as their 8th child. Raymond made his own way within his family among his twelve
siblings. He was proceeded in death by sisters, Marie Carter, Norma Jean Watkins and his brothers Louis
Harris, James Harris, and Edward Harris.
Raymond is the son of a deacon and he spent his earlier years serving the Lord at the Providence Baptist Church. He attended Bloom Elementary, Walnut Hills High school and the University of Cincinnati.
Raymond had a very creative spirit. In is past time he enjoyed fashion, cooking, family and having fun.
Raymond realized one of many talents when he helped organize and modeled with the Check Mate Mannequin Models. He was in his element when he took to the runway. Fashion brought him so much joy.
Raymond was famous among the family for his cooking and baking skills.
He was very proud of his family, one of his favorite quotes “We have Harris blood.” This simply implied that his family is strong, resilient and can endure all things. Raymond will be remembered for his ability to make the whole room laugh.
Raymond battled lung cancer twice, he fought relentlessly and was victorious. He was a 32year survivor, He celebrated annually by attending the annually Cancer Society dinner cruise on the Ohio River with family and friends.
Raymond spent the last few years alongside the Homeless Coalition as a social activist. He was selected to speak in Washington D. C. in efforts to preserve the affordable housing at the Alms Apartments where he resided until his final day. He loved his community and gave all that he could to protect and support all the residents of the Alms. He leaves Rosemary Sheffield (Sister), Dave Harris (Brother), Regina Bell (Sister), Darlene Harris (Sister), Johnny Harris (Brother), Renee Winbush (Sister) and Leonard Harris (Brother). He further leaves his son Ronnie and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends to cherish him.
Raymond will be missed and was loved by many. Until we meet again take your rest!
There will be a memorial celebration and June 19 th @12 Noon at French Park, 3012 Section road, Cincinnati, OH 45237.
