A Nebraska man is killed in the early morning hours after hitting a parked trailer and a piece of construction equipment in Hastings. He was a young Cozad soldier who was about to be deployed.

21–year–old Raymond Heuck was part of the first of the 134th Cavalry Squadron. Over the next two months, the Nebraska National Guardsmen and women will train in the U.S. and then deploy to Afghanistan.

But Heuck's service in this group has been cut short. Around 2:00 am this morning, his Chevy Cobalt hit a parked trailer at ninth and Baltimore in Hastings.

According to Nebraska State Patrol, Troopers were sent to investigate an accident near 9th and Baltimore in Hastings.

NSP said at 2:00 a.m. Thursday, 21-year-old Raymond Heuck of Cozad, was traveling west on West 9th between Hewett Ave. and Baltimore Ave. in Hastings.

NSP says Heuck's Chevrolet Cobalt struck a parked goose neck trailer then hit a payloader parked nearby. Hueck was pronounced dead at the scene.

10/11 News called Hastings Police to see if there were any road closures and learned that the accident occurred in an area where the road was supposed to be closed for construction.
