Rebecca W. Desrosiers of Grassy Creek passed away into the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 12, 2018. She was born in Oxford, North Carolina on August 29, 1953.
Rebecca fought a two-year battle with AML leukemia trying every therapy possible. During her fight, Rebecca’s treatment included several research protocols. Her participation in these protocols resulted in medical breakthroughs that will benefit future leukemia patients.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Dr. Paul M. Desrosiers, by her godchildren, Rebecca Ascencio and Paul Pelayo, her sister, Jean Marie Borst, brother-in-law, Col. Howard Borst, niece, Lauren Marie, and parents, Charlie David and Eunice Winston, and Laura Ascencio.
Rebecca married Paul, the love of her life in 1975, and they were blessed with raising two godchildren and their namesakes, Rebecca Ascencio and Paul Pelayo. Rebecca and Paul met in Granville County while they were working at Granville Medical Center. She and Paul delighted in traveling the world giving their godchildren a perspective and appreciation for different cultures, customs, and traditions.
Rebecca graduated from Eastern Carolina University with a nursing degree. She worked as an active registered nurse, among other things, caring for patients and teaching childbirth education in dual languages. During her career, she helped countless patients without the financial wherewithal for basic medical treatment.
Rebecca lived a selfless life focused entirely on helping others. She has supported and assisted many families along the way. She has always fought and argued for the less fortunate and has been ready to help no matter the cost. Her impact and presence will always be felt because she has imparted and bestowed so much of her life on family, friends, and anyone that came across her path.
There will be a memorial service on Friday, March 23, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Grassy Creek Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church burial grounds. Rev. Cameron Currin will be officiating the service.
