Her Life & Times

February 24, 2014

Mrs. Regina Chioma Onwukwe-Oraegbuna was born to the family of Mr. Joshua Wachukwu Onwukwe and Mrs. Regina Ejighiator Onwukwe of Umuokiri Village Amator-Antonomous community in Osisiome L.G.A of Abia State on 24th September, 1964.

An epitome of beauty fondly called “Akuigbe Daddy” she was a heartwarming young girl, very intelligent, loving and caring sister to all in her family and beyond.

At Regan Memorial Primary School Onike Lagos through Girls Government College Agege and Federal Girls College New Bussa, unto the University of Port-Harcourt she proved her academic mettle. Regina did not rest on her oars; attending many professional development programs culminating in her recently concluded Masters from the University in Kenya for which she earned a distinction.

Mrs. Regina Chioma Oraegbuna Joyfully was married to a distinguished son of Umunnachi in Dunukofia L.G.A of Anambra State Dr. Goodman Okwudili Oraegbuna in 1998. Together, they  totally dedicated their lives to goodwill and charity. They both supported a noble course “Total Counsel and Care International Ministry”. Their union was blessed with 2 sons  and 1 daughter - David Chukwuemeka Oraegbuna, Daniel Ikechukwu Oraegbuna and Deborah Chidinma Ujuaku Oraegbuna.

Regina always wanted to be a diplomat. She cultivated her gift for languages and focused her efforts on realizing this dream. She started working life at Voice of Nigeria before she got the job she truly desired with the Foreign Affairs Ministry in 1997. As her colleagues and supervisors will attest, she enjoyed and excelled at her work. Regina served in her capacity as a career Diplomat in many parts of the world -  Pretoria, South Africa; Caracas Venezuela; Nairobi – Kenya. She recently returned from another successful posting from Bujumbura, Burundi, where as an Assistant Director, she served as Charge d’ Affairs.

She was a linguist of a rare order, she spoke and could write Kiswahili; English; French; Spanish; kimdi; Yoruba and of course Igbo language, her mother tongue. An excellent scholar and an exemplary Diplomat, she always brought glory and honour to Nigeria wherever she was. Regina was an expert in culture and gender matters.

Regina was a meticulous planner and a fastidious homemaker. Her family treasured her as a super mother as well as a super wife. Nothing was too good for her children and she had the gift of nurturing resources, planning well into the future for the security of her home and her kids. She was a beloved daughter, loving sister and aunt, a loyal friend who built relationships with diverse people all over the world.

Her colleagues considered her a humble and lively person to work with, a godly and highly principled woman. Regina was truly compassionate. A resilient believer who faced the ups and downs life brought her way with courage and an unshakeable faith in her savior. She will be sorely missed by us all.

Sleep well our jewel, sleep tight, until at Gods seat we meet to part no more.
