Remembering Mezina

June 4, 2020
Mezina Simon was born on December 2nd 1929 in Bysainthe Section de Petit Fonds, Haiti. The daughter of late Annulus Joseph (Father) and Paulisna Sonelus (mother). She wed the late Arthur Bussy Simon on April 3, 1954. Arthur predeceased her on September 21, 2005; they were married for 51 years. Mezina was mother of 12 but raised 9 children after suffering 3 early losses at child birth.

Mezina was an entrepreneur and worked as an merchant woman selling produce and goods in neighboring markets in Las Chaobas, Haiti to help support her family as Arthur worked as a gardener. She enjoyed the many titles of hard worker, wife, mother, and faithful servant of Jesus Christ. Mezina migrated to Brooklyn, NY in 1986 to Join her eldest Daughter Yvrance Simon where over the years she helped rear her four children and worked at local Haitian restaurants as a Sous Chef. “Mamman” which she is affectionately referred to was loved and appreciated by all who met her. After putting in 12-hour days at the restaurant she would happily brag about the generous tips she would often receive from dinner clients after returning home from work.

“Mamman” spent many years working, commuting on the public transit to and from work however her favorite past time was indulging in her favorite TV shows such as WWE wrestling, “The price is right” and the “Steve Harvey” show. She enjoyed entertainment, laughing and cooking home cooked meals. She had an infectious laugh, warm spirit and hopeful disposition. She was rarely sad about anything and put all her faith in God.She worked tearlessly to migrate her children and grand- children to the USA and thankfully before her untimely passing her wish came to fruition. Her favorite bible verse was Exodus 14 :14 in which was the mantra for her life.

In memory of "Manman Arthur"

June 4, 2020
Always worried about the future of his grand children, always had the volunteer to help, always be in joyed when she received a gift from someone (specifically from a member of her family). Even a call. Remember when I call she always expressed her joyed and said at the end : "Thooo mèsi anpil pou call la, m wè ou pa lage mwen". You will always be in my heart Grannie. R.I.P !

I  offered you this calendar to wish you a Happy 2020's year. I am pretty sure that will be your best year cause in it you do your best trip, the trip of eternity. I love you.
