Of course I have memories of my dad as a child--us playing "Hand of Doom" which was obviously a tickle game. Him taking me to the playground and pushing me on the tire swing. Going to the McDonald's in Porter Square followed by Brigham's Ice cream shoppe on a Saturday afternoon.
But out of all of my memories with my dad, the most precious are those from the last 5 and half years. Of him being elevated to Papa and watching him interact with his grandkids. He had a unique nickname for each one. Skylar was his Scoop, Honor: Sugah, Asa: Mistah and finally Woody was Guy.
The last year living all together was a wonderful gift from God. My dad became an integral part of morning and evening routines. Honor would reserve a time slot for tickle time and Skylar would ask for Papa to read a book. Papa made the stories come to life in only a way he could. Asa, as he got older, joined in the fun of story time and showed off for Papa having him look at how he could jump off of the last step into the living room. Lastly, Woody. Woody was completely contented in his Papa's lap. Anytime he would fuss, we would place Woody with my dad and he would immediately quiet down. They enjoyed their naps together!
While I am sad that my dad isn't with us physically, his memory, and moments big and small, have been imprinted to recall at any time. I am glad this is not the end. Until we meet again. I love you.
Your Pook.

Tribute to Rev. Samuel C. Wood by Marion Skeete, Founder and President of LegacyMakers, of which Pastor Sam was a Board Member:
Pastor Sam and his beloved wife, Dr. Marsha H Wood, have served on the LegacyMakers International Ministries Board for two years but they have been friends of my family for over 30! Pastor Sam will be greatly missed for his love for the Lord, great communication skills, humor, candor, and not to forget, his amazing voice! We salute you, sir! Thank you for the enthusiasm you demonstrated when called upon to serve. I know you and my parents are having a grand time up there! I look forward to the Great Reunion.
That said, undoubtedly the greatest legacy that Pastor Sam has left LegacyMakers and my own personal life is the legacy of FAITH. He chose to live in faith and die in faith. After all, it’s not the outcome of faith that is the victory that overcomes the world; it is FAITH itself.
Hebrews 11:13 says, “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.”
Tributes by Board Members of LegacyMakers:
Friends and loved ones depart but God will never leave you comfortless.. May Rev Sam's precious relationship with you all stay with you to comfort and encourage your heart in continuing in your faith. God is our refuge and strength and a very present help in trouble. [Ps 46v1] God has promised strength for every sorrow. May He in sympathy and unfailing love bring new courage to your hearts.
Chuchi Merino
I have never had the pleasure of meeting Pastor Sam Wood in person, but did have the privilege of serving with him on the board of LegacyMakers.
Whether he was ministering, testifying, just sharing or praying, I always knew that I was hearing wisdom speak - wisdom gained from living life. Whether in good or bad times, his faith and passion remained the same in an unfailing God.
I am sure Pastor Sam has left behind a legacy through the lives he has impacted in some way or another. I am glad to say that I too am one of the ones Pastor Sam impacted through a few short hours spent on conference calls that reached San Antonio, Texas. What a blessing!

Pastor John and Minister Terri Hurd would like to send  expressions of love to Dr. Woods and Family on the homegoing of our Brother and Friend Pastor Sam Wood. During a previous telephone conference for LegacyMakers International Ministry  He testified about how God healed him from cancer and he would no longer be ashamed to let the world know what God did for him in order to encourage others. Hebrews 11:6 says without faith it is impossible to please God. Pastor Sam was a Man of Faith and Encouragement! Our prayers are with you Dr. Woods and Family ! We love you!

Resolution:
Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforted us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. 2 Corinthians 1:2-4.
In his own divine wisdom and purpose, God has called our husband, father into eternal glory
Pastor Samuel Wood.
As the songwriter has pen so poetically, “if I can touch somebody as I travel along, if I can cheer someone with a word or song, if I can show somebody that they are traveling wrong then my living will not be in vain.”
Whereas, we the officers and members of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church desire to express our love and respect to the family, we make these resolutions.
A copy of which will be kept in our records and a copy given to the family with our deepest expression of sympathy.

Humbly submitted,

I was privileged to have the opportunity to learn from and travel with Pastors Sam & Marsha. I recall the trips to Delaware, where we sang songs and Pastor Sam ministered the Word. I have fond memories of good times fellowshipping at their house. I can hear his infectious laugh even as I’m writing this.
Pastor Sam was an encouragement to me. He was one of the few people that I knew believed in me and pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone in several areas.
I am blessed having known the Wood family. I would like to express my sadness in the passing of Pastor Sam. Although I know that he’s fine, he will be missed. I had recently reconnected through the passing of another friend, Sterling Saunders, and was looking forward to getting to see Pastor Sam in person. I regret not getting to do so, although we did get to speak over the phone. I love and am praying for you all!

I extend my heartfelt condolences to my friends, the Wood family, on the lost of leader, husband, father, Rev. Samuel Wood. I pray Rev. Sam will rest in peace and that he has gone home to Glory to be with our Lord and Savior. We have been friends for many years and I remember the good old days of the Sugar Shack and his group, the Nine Lords. You will be forever remembered.

Our time with Samuel was so short! I first met him with Rev. Dr. Marsha at a Bridge Metrowest Sunday morning gathering. He had a wonderful smile, and a face that showed a rich and full life. His recent sickness was a barrier to getting to know him apart from that disease. I would have loved to have heard him sing. I'm grateful for an eternity to spend with all those who have gone before us in the Presence of the One who loves Sam (and us) best. My prayers are with Rev. Dr. Marsha and Jordan and their family. May Samuel's memory always be a blessing.

He was my forever friend, faithful and true. He was my brother in every way possible without being blood related. We laughed together, wept together, and rejoiced in the Lord together. In some things I led him, but in many things he led me. I shall truly miss Bro Woody, as I called him, Rev. Samuel C Wood, with all my heart and soul. I thank his wonderful wife, Rev. Dr. Marsha Wood for all she did in so many countless ways to help him fulfill his life and for loving and caring for him through every pain and difficulty he endured... In good times and in bad, in sickness and in health.
My Dear Brother will surely dwell in the house of the Lord forever, and God willing, we will be together again. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
I love and miss you Dear Brother...

Marsha and Woodie embraced my conversion to the NOI 50 years or so ago, and were faithful Muhammed Speaks customers. I would go through the old neighborhood with the "paper" Bean Pies and Whiting Fish and stop on Copley Street and drop off a paper and spend a little time. They were newly married and I was meeting Woodie for the first time. He was always welcoming like an old friend. I have met a lot of people in my day and Woodie was unique in that he struct me as a man of Peace. Peace was his personality.

My sincere condolences to my Godmother, Reverend Doctor Marsha Wood and Jordan during this time of Sorrow, as Godfather Woody is being called home to the lord.
Godfather Woody always made himself available to listen to any problems I had growing up and always gave pointers that I had not thought about. I am very grateful that the lord sent him to my Godmother Marsha and I was lucky enough to spend time with both of them.
Now Godfather Woody is taking his place with the lord, and he will be missed, as he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
I was a flower girl in Marsha and Woody’s wedding and he kept his promise and brought faith, joy and happiness but greater than any of these things. He brought love.

My dearest sister,
What then can we say to these things? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all things. His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. Brother Sam has earned his wings and now soars in the Heavens.
As you journey this new path, know that God is your refuge and strength, an ever-present help every step of the way. He will never leave you or forsake you. I decree He fills you with unspeakable joy and incomprehensible peace as you trust in him, so that your tomorrows will overflow with a brighter hope by the power of His Spirit.
Remember this, you have been the greatest friend and wife Sam could have ever had. Therefore it is with great joy and thanksgiving I join you in celebrating Sam's love, life and legacy. May your cherished memories bring you peace and comfort in the days ahead.  Love You Always.

Rest well my friend. We'll see you on the other side.

I met Marsha and Sam years ago on a trip to Scottsdale Az.  We went on a tour to the Grand Canyon together. Sam had me watch over Marsha as she had a cane  He always watched over his beloved Marsha  Just in that day touring I made such good friends with both of them. They were just so much fun to be with. Through the years I heard of Jordan’s wedding and the arrival of her four beautiful children. I heard about all the good things in there lives and I shared mine. But I also heard all the others. I was so thankful to have met Sam  Such a sweet and gentle man. Who wouldn’t want to know him. Marsha and her family are lucky to have had him as long as they had and now sweet Sam is at peace with our God and now as he does best “ Watching over those he loved”. He will be missed more days then others but we all well have our memeories of Sam  Which will put a smile on our faces. Thank you Sam for letting me in to your friendship club . It was a pleasure to be one of your friends. May you Rest In Peace and please watch over your dear Marsha and your family Prayers for your family

My Memories of My Dad as a Child By Jordan Wilson ( Daughter)

Rev. Samuel .C. Wood's Biography

April 13, 2019

Sam was the oldest of 4 children born to Samuel C. Wood, Sr. of Boston, MA and Hilda Camilla (Rogers) Wood of GA. He had twin siblings Judy & John, 15 months younger than him, and a younger brother Barry. He is survived by his brother John of The Colony, TX.

Sam was in the United States Air Force for 8 years. During a tour of duty, while stationed in Alaska on the Aleutian Island Chain, at Galena Air Force Base, 5 Jet miles from Russia, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, October 16 - 28, 1962, his skills were needed and put into operation. He was not a combat soldier but worked in the office, as he could type. His Unit needed someone who knew Morse Code and could type. Sam said he could type and knew Morse Code. They wanted to overlook him because he was a black man, but because there was no one else on his base with these qualifications, they had to use him. Because of his skills, he received Top Security Clearance and was able to intercept Morse Code from Russia. He was able to decipher the real messages from the counterfeit messages.
When I met Sam, Woody as he was called by his friends and his Singing group The Lords, he was finishing up his 8th year of duty with the United States Air Force, and was stationed at Hanscom Field, Bedford, MA. We met at the Brown Derby Nightclub in Boston in 1966 where he was performing with his singing grout The 9 Lords. He liked to tell the story of how we met. I was out in the audience with my friend Patsy who is here today. He spotted me from the stage, and was determined to meet me during the break. He immediately went over to me, sat down and started talking to me. It wasn’t long before he said “I’m going to marry you one day.” What a line. But he was sincere in his declaration. Three years later we married on September 27, 1969. We would have celebrated our Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary this coming September 27th, but God had a much better plan, and that was to bring him home and out of his suffering and into His presence. Truly a far better place. He is celebrating in His presence where there of fullness of joy. And I am so happy for him.
When I dedicated my life to the Lord in 1978, Sam did so too a couple of years later. He went to Bible School at Bethel Bible Institute, Boston, MA, and Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary’s Center for Ministerial Education, Boston, MA. He also went into Public Health and was a Unit Manager in the Pediatric Department of Boston City Hospital. Later he worked for the City of Boston Inspectional Services Department where he was Director of the Rodent Control Program. During that time members of his staff became interested in his relationship with the Lord and showed a desire to get to know our Lord. Out of his ministry to them, our church was birthed by the same name, this time he was truly the Lord’s vessel and our ministry/church was The Lord’s Family Ministries.
Sam was very involved in helping the communities around Boston and anyone who sought his help - colleagues, friends, family and strangers.. He was also Co-Founder of Boston’s Tenpoint Coalition which took him all the way to the Clinton White House.
Sam and I were blessed to have a beautiful, loving, supportive, daughter Jordan who was born to us one month before our Thirteenth Anniversary. One year before conception God gave me a dream and showed me a baby girl in the palm of His hand and He said her name is Jordan. Jordan was Sam’s love and delight. He nicknamed her Pooky Bear and years later shortened her nickname to Pook. He held to that name to the end. Sam and I were so blessed when Jordan met Nicholas Wilson, the love of her life and father of their 4 beautiful children. Sam loved playing with our grandchildren and deliberately made memories with them. He even got to spend some very precious quality time with his namesake Baby Woody. Nicholas blessed Sam beyond belief by naming their last child Woodrow Timothy Wilson so that he could be called Woody, the same nickname as his Papa.
Sam has lived an amazingly rich life and touched a lot of lives in his four vocations of Military Man in the United States Air Force, an Entertainer/Singer of the Lord’s, formerly known as the Nine Lords, a Public Servant for the City of Boston, and a Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is the only man I know with these four vocational careers and has done all of them well.
I salute you Hon. I will always miss your presence, but I am happy you are with your Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ. God bless you, till we meet again.

1st Cousin

April 24, 2019

Shared by Steven Wood on 23rd April 2019

1st Cousin

Samuel C. Wood Jr.(or more correct, Samuel C. Wood III), was not only the eldest sibling of his immediate family, but also the eldest cousin in our generation of cousins.

Being12 years my senior, our relationship didn’t become closer until my early teens, and after his release from military service.

I could tell you more about how we became close after that, but then, I’d be writing a book. So I’ll concentrate on the period of time where, his life, impacted, my life, the greatest.

As a co-founder of the, “The Fabulous Lords”, a local New England soul group, renowned for its choreography, and intricate harmonies, I was never more proud, to call him my cousin. Woody(as he was referred), somehow managed to get some of us(underage cousins), into some of the venues, like the Sugar Shack, and Zacks, to catch, The Lords, perform.

I became a number one fan, from then on.

Later, after my own release from military service, I was invited by Woody, to audition for a position with the group, that had become available. I was overjoyed that Woody would even consider me as a contender. Needless to say, I had to do my best, to make him proud. I succeeded.

From that point on, Woody proceeded to nurture, and teach me the business of music. That being, how to dress(he was an impeccable dresser),and carry myself, in the public eye. How to adapt to the lifestyle of an entertainer on road tours(we traveled extensively throughout the United States, and all over Canada). He taught me about the pleasures, and rewards, for giving, and performing at my best, for the audiences. And constantly warned me about the ills, and temptations, that unfortunately, is also a part of this business of music.

It was during, and even after that time, that he became more than, just my cousin. He became my brother, a mentor, a teacher, and a friend, who guided, and protected me always, thereafter.

Woody may be gone from this world now, but he’s left behind, an everlasting legacy, and spirit within me, and I’m sure, with so many others.

        God bless you,cuz

My friends Marsha and Sam
