When the history of the Sint Maarten/St. Martin Circuit shall be written, the name Selwyn Vanterpool will be featured prominently as a dynamic leader, a caring and loving person and most of all an anointed man of God who was not afraid to say, "Thus saith the Lord." As members of the Philipsburg methodist Women's Association, a group founded by his wife, Sister Brenda Vanterpool in 1984, Rev, Vanterpool has left an indelible impression on us all by his example as a pastor, brother and friend. We were touched by his teaching, humility and genuine love for not only methodists but the entire community. One non-Methodist on hearing of his passing remarked: "I knew him as a very direct, firm, but humble and soft spoken person who cares about people."
Our organisation became an extended family to the extent that some of us are Godparents for their last child, Karen.
We mourn his passing, but are comforted that he has "fought the good fight and ran the race and will receive the crown of life."
"The measure of life is not in its duration but in donation." Reverend Vanterpool has donated much to the to the building of God's Kingdom here on earth. To sister Vanterpool and family we say, "Emotions are God-given", they are part of who we are."Tears are the safety valves that God built into us during these times." Remember, "The joy of the Lord is your strength." Continue to be comforted by the Holy Spirit of God.
Continue to rest in Perpetual Peace, Rev.
