Another year has passed! Over the weekend I was remembering all the times we had growing up. The hard times that provided challenges for us to grow and become stronger and the good times that knit us together. We looked out for each other as we started our families and always followed righteous paths in all our doings. Thank you for these memories which will not fade away. May your soul continue to rest in peace.

Rhonda and I grew closer when I was helping driving her to Philly for her chemo sessions. We talked about everything and anything. Politics specially with what was happening in Brazil these past years. Soccer was another favorite subject . She always had some insights and great advice. Her generosity was a strong trait in her character : I will never forget how she helped my daughter who was also going through chemotherapy herself. You will always have a special place in my heart dear friend.

Rhonda will be missed by many....I worked with Rhonda in the OR and she was a caring professional, who always was smiling and could take a crazy situation and make it better with her witty humor. It was a great pleasure to work with her and know her over the years. She left this life way too soon, but she left a big impact on many people.  My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Rhonda was a dear friend! When she first came to Parsippany Baptist Church her boys were in our 2's and 3's Junior Church Class. I enjoyed chatting with her on Sundays and admired her desire to travel to CHOP in order to help children with conditions needing special care. This love for children was very evident in her raising her own children. I remember her sharing with me the Biblical principles that she desired her own children to live by. She not only had her own faith, but desired that faith to be part of their lives. She shared with me how happy she was when the last of her children had put his faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior. Her children were of utmost concern to her.  As her cancer treatment began, we became closer and our talk always centered around The Lord. She always had a promise from The Bible that she was trusting. As her cancer advanced, she was thinking about the peace of God... "Be anxious for nothing but in everything in prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." Phillippians 4:5-7 Rhonda finished her course well trusting in Her Beloved Savior until He took her home to be with Him FOREVER!

Rhonda was a true-blue friend to me. I will miss the "retreats" that I would create for her in my home during times when she was especially weary. I will miss our lunch dates. I will miss her advice to me and my family whenever we were facing serious medical issues. She was truly a genius. But the thing I will miss most about Rhonda is watching her unsinkable faith. Even in the face of severe adversity, Rhonda had nothing but praise for her Savior. I know He greeted her with open arms and said, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant!"

Prayers for all of Rhonda's family and friends. Rhonda has a great soul and her spirit will remain. Her humbleness was contagious and I'm so sad to hear this news this morning. I know her battle wasn't easy but I know she's now with the Lord and finally at peace. I will continue to pray for everyone who loved her, as well all did here at CHOP.
Rest well Rhonda XoXo

Her Life

Dr. Rhonda Alexis was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on October 3, 1960 and died on May 22, 2019 at the age of 58. She was the mother of three children, Robert, Jonathan and Meryl.

Rhonda attended primary school at the Tunapuna Anglican School until 1972 and secondary school at the Bishop Anstey High School until 1980. In 1986, she graduated from The University of the West Indies with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree. She started her career in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Port of Spain General Hospital, in Trinidad in 1986

Rhonda migrated to the US in 1990 and continued her work in medicine at the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, in Newark New Jersey specializing and becoming board certified in pediatrics. Rhonda loved life and life loved her. She had a very strong faith that kept her overcoming life’s challenges with courage and class. Quick to give advice and always with a hearty smile, she served as a volunteer in her church and was a mentor to many. She is now reunited with her lord and we are thankful for her life and example. May God bless her soul.

Dear Rhonda— you will be sorely missed.. you were a few months ahead of me during my fellowship at CHOP,  we subsequently shared an office during my junior attending years at CHOP and remained in touch ever since.

I will miss your larger than life heart and your laughter. I take solace in knowing you are resting with your maker and you are at peace now. I pray over your children for God’s comfort at this time.

I will always remember her smile and her resilienc.

A best friend since 1972

May 26, 2019

Rhonda has been one of my best friends since 1972!

Strong, smart, successful. caring, A survivor through thick and thin!

We were in class together at Bishop Anstey High School, Trinidad from 1972,teenage girls with academic dreams. Rhonda attained hers working at CHOP UPenn for 20+ years, as a Board Certified Pediatrician and Anesthetist. I'm so proud of her! And she continued to inspire the next generation with advice to the children of any of our friends who wanted to excel in medical academia in the US

Rhonda was a dedicated mother. Her children were the center of her life. She put her heart and soul into raising them with God, the old fashioned way, with focus on education, family, and love. In our last conversations we chatted about her concern that she wished that they were further on in their lives. We took comfort in the solid foundation she had given them, with God's grace

I miss her dearly! Our regularly conversations on Whatsapp about everything - the kids, work, our challenges, Trinidad, the world! She always had solid, sensible, caring, proactive advice to share...

May her soul Rest in Peace
