Richard was born December 10, 1939 on the family farm in Cuming County near Bancroft to Herman J. and Rose (Gentrup) Guenther.  He attended District 21 country school, was a 1957 graduate of Guardian Angels Catholic School in West Point, and served two years in the United States Army Reserve.  On November 25,1961, Richard married Mary Kay Pieper at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge.  The couple farmed north of Beemer. In 1974, Dick started driving truck for Hilltop Feed Service, retiring as manager in 1993.  He then worked for Seed Enterprise and enjoyed doing day work for local farmers until his health would no longer allow.

Richard was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus and former member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer where he was active with the CCD program and served on the parish council.

Dick was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Guardian Angels Central Catholic, and West Point Bombers sports teams, and enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews participate in all their activities.
