Richard "Dick" J. Dunker, 67 years, of North Bend, Nebraska died Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at his home in North Bend.  Richard was born July 1, 1949 in West Point, Nebraska to Roy and Wilma (Widhelm) Dunker.

Dick grew up on a farm near North Bend and graduated from North Bend High School in 1967.  He served in the US Army from June 20, 1969 until March 19, 1971 during the Vietnam War.  He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service.  Dick married Janet Foy on February 23, 1974 in Snyder, Nebraska.  Dick started farming in 1973 and lived on the farm until moving into town in 2016.

He was a lifetime meber of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of St. Charles Parish Council, member of V.F.W. Post #8223 and AmVets Post #20 of North Bend and the American Legion Post #340 of Morse Bluff.  Dick served on the Cotterell Township Board for 20 years and the Co-op Board.  He enjoyed shop work, old cars and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; sons, Kurt (Melissa) Dunker of North Bend and Neal (Jammie) Dunker of Mission, KS; daughters, Laura (Eric) Chvatal of Morse Bluff and Melissa (John) Brackle of Fremont; sisters, Jeanne (Bob) Dahlheim of North Bend, Patricia Taylor of Ames, NE, Carol (David) Limbach of North Bend, Gloria Vosler of Morse Bluff and Diane (Alan) Sindelar of North Bend; sisters-in-law, Marlene (Tom) Johnson and Jean Foy all of North Bend; brother-in-law, Larry (Carol) Foy of Waterloo, NE; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Charles and Rita Foy; and brothers-in-law, Marvin and Robert Foy and Bill Taylor.

Funeral mass was at 10 AM, Saturday, April 1, 2017 at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend, NE. Father Keith Rezac officiated.  Knights of Columbus Rosary was held at 7 PM, Friday, March 31, 2017 at the church.  Visitation was Friday, March 31, 2017 from 4 PM to 7PM with the family receiving friends from 5 PM to 7 PM  all at the church.  Military graveside services was conducted by members of V.F.W. Post #8223 and AmVets Post #20 of North Bend and American Legion Post #340 of Morse Bluff at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Ridgeley near Scribner, NE.  Memorials may be given to St. Charles Catholic Church Building Fund at North Bend.

Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend was in charge of arrangements.
