His Life

Richard Laurence Greaves of West Point, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. He was born in Medford, Massachusetts to Laurence and Mary Greaves on February 28, 1929.  He was a graduate of Tufts University in 1951.  He had been the owner and proprietor of the Historic Union Oyster House in Boston Massachusetts, a business that had been in his family since 1927.

 

Richard spent most of his life in Massachusetts and Florida.  His interests were playing his guitar, singing country music, boating, traveling, and working with his hands.  He loved his family and enjoyed caring for his pets.  He was a kind and gentle man who found happiness in the simple things in life.

 

Richard is survived by his loving wife and life’s companion of 40 years Valerie (Beaton) Greaves.  He was the devoted father of Susan Pence, Laurie Hutton, Elaine Momplaisir, Rikki Ryland, Wendy Chase and Thomas Paradise and uncle to Madelyn Steeves.   He had eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and eldest daughter Gail Barry.
