This memorial was created in memory of our beloved Richard Mengollo. He will be forever missed and we will love him always.

Richard Mengollo, also known as "Pops", "Boy", or "Papa" to many close to him, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2021. He was a fun-loving, kind-hearted, down-to-earth soul who could brighten up any room. He was the eldest of 6 siblings. He was very close with his brothers and sisters and would visit them in the Philippines any chance he could get. He was a wonderful husband to his wife Ethelyn, and a loving father to his three children, Rommel, Russell, and Ria.

He was a police officer in Manila and was a strict father with such a big heart. He loved his children and especially his grandchildren. They gave him so much joy (and some grief but mostly joy)! He was so proud of their accomplishments and always encouraged and supported them. At every opportunity, he would attend their basketball games and their recitals or special events.

He loved to sing. He can sing all night on the Karaoke but always wanted singing companions. He was an active member of the Holy Spirit Church Choir in Fremont, CA and was also a member of a singing group with his friends called Handog Himig (gift of music). He also loved to dance particularly the Cha Cha, Boogie, Line Dancing, and the Tango. If you have ever seen him dance, it was so graceful. He was so happy to be on the dance floor.

Traveling was one of his favorite hobbies. He would go on cruises with his wife, family and friends. They visited many places- Alaska, Rome, Italy, France and Hawaii to name a few.

He will leave a huge void in our hearts and the parties will never be the same without him. He leaves behind his wife, 3 children, and 4 grandchildren.

I miss you a lot. I did really well this year at work. Trying to keepy promise to be the best at my job. I also got a big puppy. Her name is Brittany and she is almost 8 months. She is getting bigger and I know you will love her. She is such a sweetheart. We wish you a happy Thanksgiving tomorrow. I will be spending it with my good friend Kim and her family. Happy birthday. We miss you and always think about you. Mom always walks now and she is getting better. I wish I could visit you but I have been busy with work and fixing the house. I wish you could see it as I know you will like it. You have your own room and bathroom too. A big back yard for you to relax. I still can’t process this, I wish I had a better last talk with you. Our last real in person talk we had with each other was a real scare to be honest. You didn't feel too good and I was there to care for you, i'm happy that you came to me knowing and trusting that you would be in good hands. it was a good trade off with the care giving, you’ve raised me my whole life so its the least i could’ve done. Papa you’ve impacted my life greatly and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better papa, all the times you picked me up from school, band practice, or took me to the park, or got food, I am so deeply grateful i shared those moments with you. i just wish I could’ve said I love you in your last moments. I just can’t express how thankful I am to be a part of my Tito Boy’s life. I have known him since I was a child in the Philippines and I always thought how cool it is to have an uncle who is a cop. He and my Tita Thelyn were so nice and welcoming to me that I felt I was one of the siblings with Rommel, Russel and Ria. I used to always come over their house to play with my cousins. I remember that I cried so much when they finally moved to the US because I felt alone with no playmates. But I was looking forward to spend time with them again once I came back to the US. My Tito Boy was gracious enough to welcome me to their house in Norwalk and in Fontana so I could sleepover. Miss those simple days!
Through the years that I have known my Tito boy, he has always been good to me, always cheerful and funny. He was a great influence to my life especially growing up. I am so grateful to have spend time with him. We miss you Tito Boy! Thanks for being a great Uncle and a great Man! Love you so much always!

Or that you were the best, that anyone could be. The last time I talked to you, I wish I would have known, I would have said I Love You and kept you on the phone. If I had 5 more minutes before you left us I’d hold on to you with real tight hugs, I wouldn’t want you to go. I would tell you that I would miss you, more than you’ll ever know. Words can't express how much you meant to me. Growing up I always remember you calling me your "buddy." I always loved when you called me that. You always took us to the park and trips as kids which are some of the happiest times growing up. The time we arm wrestled and you said, if I beat you, I will be the boss. Ha! I did beat you...but you were and still are my boss. As I grew older we had our disagreements and drifted apart. However, no matter how difficult I made your life you always forgave me. The tattoo of your last name on my arm was my way of showing you our bond is forever. I want you to know that I love you so much and I wish I could have seen you one last time. I know that the hair always bothered you and made me smile everytime you asked if I would ever cut it again...the answer is still no! I promise that I will always do what's right and make you proud no matter how hard it gets. I will always talk to you and promise to always watch over mom. I know you are in a better place. I miss you and thankful for being the best pop in the world. I love you and I will see you some day. Until then...may god be with you, always and forever. I love you pop.

I miss seeing papa watch me play basketball every day and he was my number one fan, whenever he saw me pass three the hallway he would always try to block me from passing him and while he did that he was also tickling me. I will forever love you and miss you papa.

Mom, dad, Matthew and I offer our prayers and mass here in the Philippines in memorial of our beloved Uncle Boy who always was fun to be around, always cheerful, always caring.
Palabiro yan si uncle; he was also one of the uncles that called "Conan" when I was young because I was a big baby. I never understood the reference, but I will always remember that lol. Maalalahanin yan si uncle; he and Auntie Thelyn would graciously invite me to stay at their house in Fontana during summers when I was a kid. He and auntie made sure I always ate well during my stay, especially his favorite Roasted Cornish Hen Chicken and Potato Bread lol. Now, whenever I see potato bread, I just instantly remember uncle and the time he made me try it. Since then, it has become one of my favorite breads. Even for the smallest things like food, uncle was an influence.
These memories were not grandiose, but they were definitely memorable. Grateful to have been part of Uncle Boy’s life. Miss you Unc!

When I showed papa my welcome home painting I made him smile and cry. That was the last time I got to see him. He was so happy when I showed papa my painting. I miss papa so much. I will always love him.
