Richard William Steiger, 88, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012 in Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson, NC.
A native of Queens, New York, the widower of Toni Costa Steiger and the son of the late Aton and Arline Meyer Steiger. He was a US Army Veteran, recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, took part in the Battle of the Bulge in WWII and served under General George S. Patton, retired iron worker at Crotty Mfg. in New York.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by Rev. Pat Cox. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are two daughters, Arlene S. Pepe of North Massapequa, NY, Linda S. Jahn of Springhill, Florida, three sons, Richard P. Steiger of Oxford, Larry Steiger of Wantagh, NY, Robert Steiger of Babylon, NY, 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one sister, Viola Kuntz. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 – 3:00 PM Wednesday, February 22, 2012 prior to the service at the Eakes Funeral Home, Inc. in Oxford and other times at 2672 Deer Run Road, Oxford, NC 27565.
