This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Richard Funke 81 years old , born on December 17, 1936 and passed away on November 29, 2018. We will remember him forever.

Richard Wilson Funke was born in New York on 12-17-1936. He grew up with a younger sister Sally and his parents Herman and Grace. His father Herman Prescott Funke was a man of many trades; farmer, mechanic, military man, etc., and the family lived in many areas of the East Coast of the United States. Richard met his future wife, Patricia, while they were attending the University of New Hampshire, he an Electrical Engineering major and she an English major.  They married June 29, 1959 in Shelby, Montana, where he was working as a field engineer for a defense contractor.  They moved often during the early years, following Richard’s jobs.  Their son Thomas was born in 1961, while living in Missouri.  David followed in 1965, while living in Lompoc, Caifornia.  Before moving to California, Rich’s work included involvement in the development of the Minuteman missile.  He took a job with GTE Sylvania in Sunnyvale and the family finally settled down.  Richard and Pat fell in love with the modern look of the Eichler and bought one in Sunnyvale in 1970.  Rich traveled extensively during the 70s and early 80s to the middle east for his work.  Patricia worked as an educator and focused on raising the boys.  Both Rich and Pat were involved in the 4-H program, Rich mainly in a supportive role.  While the boys were with them they spent the summers traveling in their motor home and supporting the boys 4-H projects. After retiring, Rich worked for a local book store for several years and Pat and Rich took up traveling.  They took many cruises all over the world.  Rich loved to tinker and fix things.  He was an avid reader and enjoyed learning new things.  The love of his life passed in August of 2018, Rich was devastated, but determined that he had more to offer the world and was headed off on a cruise to Hawaii to re-focus and center himself.  A tragic accident occurred, resulting in several falls.  He passed on November 29, 2018 following emergency surgery to relieve bleeding on his brain. He is survived by his son, David, daughter in-law Kathy and his grandchildren Nick and Beth.
