Has taken me many long days of reflection coming to terms with the passing of my very first nephew Rick Weida..remember his very first birthday and how hard my sister, Marilee worked to make his lovely party go on without a glitch. She always worked so hard for my nephews..they are her world.
Rick and I haven't been in touch for so many of his years and for that I think I really missed out..
He came from LA when my mother passed. I will be eternally grateful to him for his compassion.
As a side-note, even then Marilee was giving me instructions on how he needed a physical outlet!! (Basketball) ❤️ Always a gorgeous guy.. and very intelligent.
They say somewhere “we will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it”
Rick I will love you forever and hope all your brothers, especially your Mom’s heart heals with all the good thoughts.. and the good times you all had!

I met Rick through his brother Craig over 30 years ago. While he wasn't around as much as the other Weida boys, I always enjoyed his visits. Rick was smart, witty, sometimes sarcastic (in the best way, much like the other Weida boys) but he was always friendly and kind. He would often come sit next to me while I was watching TV, and ask me how my day went or about the classes I was taking in college. He liked to share his opinion and we had some very interesting discussions on a variety of subjects. He also loved to tell me how to cook, which he new annoyed me, and usually ended up with me splashing him with water from the sink. He'd walk away laughing but I noticed he always came back for a second helping.

My heart is breaking for Marilee, Dave, Brad, and Craig. They are all in my thoughts and prayers. I hope Rick is at peace now, and that Marilee and the boys find comfort in the words of love and support from those who knew him. I'm sending my love to them all. ~Kirsten

I first met Rick in the mid 90’s by way of my friendships with Brad and Dave. The first thing I noticed in conversation was how personable and bright Rick was and I always enjoyed our conversations. Rick was a gentleman so personable that the first conversation we ever had was comfortable and familiar as if we’d known each other for years and the last time i saw Rick (last year) that hadn’t changed. I’m glad to have known you Rick, you are appreciated for the light you brought and you are missed. I believe you’re smiling enjoying yourself where ever you are. ✨

I will miss my good friend Rick Weida - one of the most talented people that I have ever known. I grew up with Rick when I was lucky enough to be part of a group of guys in Lanai Road school.

Rick was a great athlete. He had one of the best jump shots I have ever seen - a real thing of beauty. Of all of our friends, he was probably the most gifted, natural athlete.

And he was good looking. The girls always loved Rick. He didn't have to try to get their attention like some of the rest of us, and just had a natural charm.

And he was a great artist. I remember Rick drawing the covers of GoodBye Yellow Brick Road and Captain Fantastic when he was really young, I think before Portola. And he did it perfectly. He was truly gifted at drawing.

Music: Rick loved Tom Petty. Every time he got in my car, he had his cassette, and it was Tom Petty all the time and no matter where we went we listened to Petty. I was also a big music fan and came to be a big fan of Petty, whom Rick discovered before anyone else.

Rick loved his car - the Cougar. We had some great times in that car I will always remember.

Most important, Rick was one of the sweetest nicest guys. Even though he had all these amazing qualities, he was always low key, nice, never full of himself, just a good guy and a good friend. Maybe he got that from his Mom, who was one of the nicest Moms of our friends. He always had the best intentions for his friends all the time 100% and was a very good friend.

I will miss him.

Its hard to imagine a world without one of the Weida boys in it. Rick was my cousin. I looked up to him and his brothers so much growing up. Our mothers are sisters and growing up my life was much different than theirs. I am also much younger than most of them, Craig and I are closest in age. The brothers led fast LA LIVES. I grew up in a lazy northern beach town where nothing ever happens.
But I remember Rick how much my Aunt loved him and all her boys. She would brag about their accomplishments and rightly so. I looked up to Rick as the oldest and always thought he was so handsome which he was. Because of Ricks struggles I wasn't as close with him as the other boys becusse he wasn't around as much, but all my memories of him are cherished and he will be greatly mIssed.

I met Rick about 17 years ago through his brother Craig. Although Rick was a private person, he always made me feel welcome and would go out of his way to come and say hello to me anytime I would visit the family. I think every time I walked into their house, he would walk down the stairs and ask me what I thought about the Lakers season so far, and what I thought the chances of them winning the championship were that year.

I knew him to be kind and always doing his best to care for their mother Marilee. Being the eldest son, he did his best to be there to support her and look after the home they shared. I also had the chance to get to know his longtime girlfriend Laura, who he seemed happiest spending time with.

I’m going to miss you Rick. You always made me feel like I was part of the Weida Family.

I’m truly heartbroken at the loss of Rick Weida. Rick was a big part of my childhood. We spent a lot of time together growing up and he was such a fun guy to be around. From our Palm Springs adventures to our many double dates, to just driving around for hours listening to our favorite music, he was there for so many memories that I will always cherish.

Along with his great looks, Rick was a multi-talent. He was smart. He was an incredible athlete, and a tremendous artist. He even had a great voice. Seemed like there was nothing he couldn’t do.

My thoughts, prayers, and love go out to his entire family, especially his dear mom who was always a pillar of strength and his three wonderful brothers who cared about him deeply.

You will be greatly missed...
Rest in Peace my friend.

I'm heartbroken at the thought of losing my dear friend Rick. From 3rd grade into our 40's, we shared so much good life together-- from the playground at lanai road, school, the bowling and basketball teams, then to Brentwood school (Rick somehow got a basketball scholarship in Junior High School!), we got our first jobs together (construction in Brentwood), we got our driver's licenses together (on the same day, in the same car), we chased and commiserated over girls, we shared our families and our dreams, we leaned on each other and learned from each other, we got into trouble together, all the time, but we always had each other's backs. We really talked and we always had fun. My past is unimaginable and unrecognizable without him in it. I will always cherish those memories, and I'm only sorry I won't be able to make new memories. Sending so much love to Mrs. Weida and Rick's 3 brothers. They were an inseparable beautiful unit growing up, the four of them, loyal and loving to each other. Regardless of any hardships they had, they always showed up to everything, smiles on their faces, happy and positive. I always admired how hard Mrs. Weida worked to make their lives so good, and I'm so sorry for their loss. I'll miss you, Rick.
