Relics of war

February 19, 2023
I remember Mum (Rita's sister) saying that when we were first in England she found it very difficult to find her way around. In the mid 1950's there were no major highways near us, no internet, GPS, cell phones, etc. We lived in a village in southeast England. Fearing invasion during World War 2, all the street signs on the myriad of narrow, often winding, country roads had been removed! This was intended to confuse the enemy. We were not the enemy but it was confusing to Mum, too! She was a woman of intelligence and courage. Dad was away a lot with is work: an American airline pilot. We had just moved from Frankfurt am Main, Germany. All of my immediate family were born in the United States. I have lived in the U.S. since 1969.
