ForeverMissed
This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Rita Volkering 69 years old , born on August 15, 1950 and passed away on May 10, 2020. We will remember her forever.

Rita Marie (Schweitzer) Volkering was called home on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2020.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Edward and Elizabeth (Davis) Schweitzer; Brothers- Eddie (Carol) and Robert Schweitzer; Sisters- Edna (Harry) Waltz and Loraine (John) Clark.  She leaves to cherish her loving memories her beloved sister Rose Brockman, her Children: Barry (Jamie)Volkering, Maggie (Bill Edwards) Volkering, Ringo (Anna Melton) Volkering, her grandchildren  Ethan, Devan, Blake, Dillon, Chelsea, Faith and Savannah Volkering; Lila and Sydney Edwards; Cody Collins; Sierra, Nicolette, Cody Sebastian; Lynsey Craft; her Sister-in-law LynAnn Schweitzer, and a host of dear nieces and nephews.

Those who were fortunate enough to know Rita personally will always remember her joking personality, her contagious laugh and smile, her love of Betty Boop and most importantly, her unmatched loyalty to those she loved and to those who loved her. Rita would want everyone to know she is at eternal peace and happiness.  The depth of her compassion and generosity was unwavering no matter her own circumstance and should be carried on in each of us, in her memory.  “Aunt Rita” as she was affectionately called never met a stranger and will be missed by so many.  She was a faithful member of St. Bernard Church.

The family will be forever grateful to her beloved caregiver, Anna Melton.

"We are heartbroken to lose you here on Earth; but, rejoice at the thought of your Heavenly reunion.  Until we are together again, we will smile through our tears when we think of you"

Due to COVID-19 and for the safety of everyone’s health, the family has decided to have a graveside service at St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas Kentucky, Thursday , May 28th, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. Rita would want nothing more than all her family and friends to be able to come together to share stories and celebrate her life, but more importantly, she would not want to compromise any ones health doing so. There will be an outdoor Celebration of Life to honor her once it is safer for large groups to gather (reach out to family for more information). In lieu of flowers, donations made in Rita’s memory may be made to St. Bernard Church/Perish 401 Berry St. Dayton Ky, 41074.

Rita was always good to me and my kids. Unfortunately we had to distance ourselves. I often shared stories about grandma Rita. Lynnsey had plans to reconnect and knowing her grandma was sick and with covid19 she didn't want to carry any germs to her. Lynnsey was sad she didn't get to do see her grandma. Rita was a wonderful, loving and caring person and I know she will be missed by many. Ringo you are in our prayers.

Momma Rita was always there for me when I needed her. I will miss our long talks for sure. I can still hear her say “come on baby girl let sit for awhile.” She always had comfort in knowing Barry and I had each other. Rita’s love was unconditional and I am blessed to have had her as a mother in-law for so many years. I loved watching her play with my kids while they where growing up. She would always try and sit on them. Rita was a good grandma to my kids and she will always be In their hearts as well. We will miss you momma Rita but, I know we have a beautiful angel watching over our family. RIP Momma Rita ❤️

My heart is breaking for everyone left behind but at ease knowing you were never afraid of being called home! You have left so many memories behind; Kmart trips, working the baseball games, so many crazy car rides because you weren't a good driver at all(lol), always smiling and always worrying about Ringo! Jaden still has the blanket you made him and will always cherish it!
You will be deeply missed by many Aunt Rita! Say HI to my grandparents for me!

"In the days, months and years that lie ahead,
When we talk about how things used to be,
Some will say this, some will say that
But on these things we’ll have to agree:
Our aunt was godly, and wise, and fun;
The best sister, homemaker and friend;
And in the hearts of her nieces and nephews
She’ll be special from now till the end."

Just knowing Rita is at peace takes the pain away. She suffered for so many years, now she is in heaven with all her friends and family. RIP my friend. Watch over your children so they can continue in life until you see them again.

My mom was my mentor and best friend!! My heart has been ripped out! Nobody will ever take my mom's place! I was blessed to be the one to take care of her the last 7 years! I would do it again without hesitation! She loved everyone and if she had it you had it! She sacrificed so much and gave so much love! With me it was unconditional love, rather I was wrong or right I always had her love! Its hard to breathe when i think about you being gone even though I still feel you with me! I love you mother more than i could ever prove! It's so hard for me to come home and not being able to see your smile when I walk in! Not being able to walk up and hug you and kiss you all over your face! It's hard when I walk in your room and not see you there laughing at big bang theory!
