Happy Birthday Rob!! Even though I didn't see you often I thought of you often with fond memories of our childhood and teenage years. As adults it was always a blast catching up at reunions and the random social media banter. ;) Miss you! Glad I knew you! I Celebrate your Memory and your Birthday today!!

I was a classmate of Rob’s through junior high & high school. We enjoyed playing baseball, basketball & football together. He was a fierce competitor and a loyal teammate. Best of all, he was a great friend. I have many memories of our times together at the beach, in his car with the radio blasting Aldo Nova or just hangout at home. Very proud to have considered Rob as a good friend. Rest In Peace.

Wow...This one HURTS...its never easy losing someone in your life and I've lost many
Rob Ayers you were different, you were family and we spent holidays together, charity events, road trips and so many stories not to mention our daughter's( Cameron and Brittany ) are the same age and always asking each other advice about that.. we shared tears, laughs, boat rides(remember Britt and Cameron getting stuck on a sand bar in the middle of the ocean together) and drinks but most of all at the end of day we were ALWAYS there for each other NO MATTER WHAT was going on in life.
I was getting out of the hospital from Covid and pneumonia and you were calling me for advice going into the hospital with it.. this hurts my friend. Specially knowing now it would be the last day we would ever talk.
You touched SO many lives on so many levels with Always a positive attitude and love. You were 1 in a million and I was so happy when you told me you FINALLY found the 1 with Amelia Zambrana and I know she felt the same way also. It goes without saying you have a army of people who love you and will always keep you in our thoughts and prayers my brotha!! RIP, until we meet again. "My MAN" I love you my friend!
With ALL of this being said...PLEASE I beg everyone to do whatever is necessary to stay safe and protect your family and your loved ones. Covid is real and if we don't protect ourselves we can lose the people we love the most. #staysafe

We became friends and teammates in the 7th grade, playing football and basketball either at school or in church leagues. We finished the 12th grade still playing football and basketball together. We had great times and more importantly great memories. Until we meet again my good friend, much love for you my brotha!!

Rob and I were good friends and teammates in middle school and high school. I learned that he was a great competitor in 7th grade gym class. We battled in everything from one on one to dodgeball. We both hated to lose. That’s where our friendship started.

In high school we played sports together and he was a great teammate. He worked hard to be the best player he could be. He always had his teammates back when things got “chippy”.

We had great times hanging out outside of school as well. Hanging out on High Point Road cruising in his Firebird or Camaro with the radio blasting having not a care in the world. Great memories!

After he moved to Florida we didn’t get to communicate as much but we did every now and then through Facebook or text message. One thing for sure I can tell you is even though he left us way to early, he lived a full life. He did more in his 54 years than most people would do in 154 years. He worked hard and played harder. “He left it all on the field” is the best way I could sum up his life.

Take care my friend until we meet again. I sure hope heaven has a 7th grade gym class so we can do it all over again.

Your friend,

Skabo

Rob and I were very good friends as children through our middle school years, but we did not stay close as adults. It didn't change how much I admired him and his successes. I was so jealous of him in 4th grade when he and Jeff Kimel would run around with two fingers in their mouth going "Eeee Eeee" at everyone (see baseball Lions picture). I didn't understand it, but I wanted to be part of the club. Haha. He was always so much fun and so full of energy!

To Dick, Becky, his children and fiancé, I am so very sorry for your loss. Through his death and the outpouring of love for his life, it is impacting so many people. His death has made me think differently about how I spend my time, how I nurture friendships, and how time is not guaranteed to any of us. Rob lived his life to the fullest, and he impacted so many people. I'm very thankful I knew him, and I am thankful he impacted me too.

I was fortunate to have known Robert, well "Rob" as adults for 45 years...WOW! That's a long time. I can honestly say that his name always brought a smile to my face (ask any of my friends from the 4th grade on). From pre-teen couples roller skating to High School rides in the Camaro listening to Aldo Nova with the t-tops out, Robert always made sure life was fun. Too many stories to tell over those years. We were always close and had a very special friendship. I am so thankful for that and all the wonderful memories I have of him.
He was truly larger than life He'll be missed but never forgotten.

Robert and Deborah were my first playmates at age four. It was so much fun to be part of the larger Ayers/PG family. Thank you for sharing Gigi and Grandmommy with me! I know they ushered him into the afterlife with them.

Robert had a magnetic personality and did not know a stranger. While he was so much fun, he was fiercely competitive in athletics. This probably helped him become such an astute businessman!

Robert also had an introspective side. I'm so glad he was my "date" at Deborah's wedding; we reminisced about the good old days, solved all the world's problems, and laughed all night. He loved his two children dearly.

Covid is a nightmare. Becky and Dick, my heart is broken for you. The only solace in all this is that we know Rob lived life to the fullest and passed after finding his soul mate, Amelia! As the saying goes, "You can only truly love those with whom you laugh." God bless you all.

A huge part of Rob's life that is missing from this lovely tribute was his family life and children. It was much more than just a footnote. While Rob and I divorced, we kept an amicable relationship. He could always make me laugh, but he was more than the happy-go-lucky, drink in hand, beach Rob. Rob was a hugely successful businessman and we led a great life together for the many years. I have added some photos of Rob from earlier days, with me and with our kids, Tyler and Cameron. I have known Rob for 34 of his 54 years, being with him from the beginning and at the heartbreaking end. He will forever be in my heart and part of me. He lives on now through his children.

His Life
February 9, 2021
Robert “Rob” Dick Ayers III, 54, passed away February 3, 2021, after a very brave battle with complications from COVID 19. Those that knew Rob, even just a little lost a shining star and friend in their lives.
Rob was born and raised in North Carolina and will always be remembered for his natural athleticism. He loved all sports from a very early age and excelled in baseball, basketball, and football during his high school years at Southeast High in Greensboro, NC.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from Elon College and taught P.E. for a few years. Rob was also well known for his extreme fitness and competed in many bodybuilding competitions, eventually earning the title of Mr. North Carolina.   He was often heard sharing diet and nutrition advice and helpful workout hints.
Rob made his life in Tampa, FL, and had a very successful career representing multiple furniture lines in all parts of the world. He made friends easily and will always be remembered for living life to the fullest, his love of working out, dancing to live music, and building lasting friendships everywhere he traveled.
Those that knew Rob, know that he loved making others happy, he loved his family and children  and he had a unique way of making the most of small moments and turning them into special memories.
Rob will be sadly missed by his fiancée, Amelia Zambrana , his two beautiful children, Tyler and Cameron Ayers, parents, Dick and Becky Ayers, brother, Greg Ayers, and sister Kathryn Ayers and nephews Max and Jack Steele.

Learning of Rob's passing is the biggest shock to me in recent years. Like everyone else, I still can't believe it. Rob and I met through our friend Lee around 1996, 1997. I was a massage therapist and Rob got regular massages and we would talk and talk about everything under the sun. He graciously referred more clients to me than all my other clients combined. He practically single-handedly grew my massage business. I saw him here and there throughout the years but our paths rarely crossed in the past decade. However, when I think of Rob, its his smile and upbeat attitude that I remember the most. He's clearly loved by so many and for good reason. He had a good heart and knew better than anyone how to have fun in life. My sincerest condolences go out to every family member and friend he left behind.

The All Time Greatest Rock Songs Of The 60s, 70s, 80s & 90s - Everybody Hurts
I'm sharing this song for Rob's beloved little sister Kathryn. We had a long conversation last night and talked about how we all grieve. Some people share and some just like to be quiet. And in the end she said , Deborah it's like that song, Everybody Hurts.  She is right. No matter what your relationship was with Rob Ayers we all are hurting in our own unique way. So Kat ..this one is for you.

Thank you Jeff Kimel for sharing the Pleasant Garden Football Picture. What a great memory!!
Everyone and anyone who lived in PG was probably playing a sport or being a cheerleader at the community center. Rob was always involved in some kind of sport!
