In her youth Robbie gave her life to Christ at Hopson Chapel M.B. Church. In 1947, the family relocated to Chicago, Illinois.

Robbie graduated from McKinley High School and later joined the Greater Galilee M.B. Church. As a member, she humbly served wherever she saw a need, earning her the family nicknamed “Deacon Galilee”. In 1972, Robbie exited her career with Pitney Bowes to serve full time as the church’s secretary. Robbie was the proud mother of one child Avajean, yet briefly fostered two sisters, Emily and Ruby Holt. In 1992, Robbie married Willie King Sr., she was then blessed with 9 stepchildren Willie Jr., (Georgia), Carl (Lesia), Gearlene, Sharon (deceased), Lawrence (Shannon), Sheila, Cornelius (Cathy), Veronica (Allen), Brenda, and many grandchildren. After retiring in 1994, Robbie and Willie relocated to Dayton, Ohio. They joined Greater St. John M.B. Church. Where she served in several ministries. Mandrill Sr., Sheila, Mandrill Jr., and Malon, became a fixated part of Robbie’s life over the last twenty years. This relationship was a result of Robbie’s caring for children in her home.

Her earthly existence will be missed by the aforementioned, one brother Jimmie (Barbara) Hayes, two sisters Charlene Smith and Betty Knox, one aunt Erma Jean Bennett, two spiritual daughters Margaret Mason and Karen Smith, and countless other relatives and friends. Forever striving to fulfill her legacy is her devoted daughter Avajean Hayes, grandchildren Khalilah Forté and Trevor Bush, great-grandchildren Phillip lll, Alon, Serenity, Trevor, Karis, and Kaylee, a special niece, Vanessa Hollins, and friend Orene James. “To God Be the Glory for All Things YOU Have Done” Order of Service Pastor Norman Bradfield Sr.

Auntie was so much like my grandmother. Looking at her was like looking at my grandmother Claretha. It is not shocking that they were both so much alike. Hospitality, love, and concern were some of her characteristics. But baby! My aunt, like all my aunt's could dress so fine and top it all off with one of the best hats known to man. Look at her photo! Do you see what I see? REGAL

Beautiful heart

Shared by Felicia Holmes on June 22, 2020
I was in eighth grade and auntie wanted to make sure I had everything I needed for my luncheon.  As a 13 year old, I was dressed better than most adults.  My family was determined to make sure I lacked nothing.  Auntie and I went to Red Cross shoes. She bought me the most beautiful pair of grey shoes I have ever seen.  Of course I needed the perfect pair of pantyhose.  All I can say is when she did something for you, her whole heart was in. She gave you the best that she had to offer!
