Tributes
Leave a tributeThinking of you today on your birthday. It has been five years now since your passing to Heaven. You are remembered well by me and others in the office who know you. I keep you in mind in the drawing of you we still have over your desk, the pictures of you in my offices and the news article of you and I in the VB reception room.
You blessed me with your confidence, support and kindness as a young analyst in 1992 through 1994. Most importantly you believed in me.
I have prayed for you many times, and do so now that you felt that love, confidence, support, kindness and belief through the many succeeding years in which we continued to work together in VB from 2000 through 2012.
There was never a gentler soul than Bob Dunne,
In wit and generosity he was second to none.
With boundless caring for every person, dog and cat,
Who among us could have a greater heart than that?
In financial analysis, he was nonpareil,
But though blessed with such talent, he would never walk away,
But be there in an instant to show a novice the ropes,
The kind of mentor for whom everyone hopes.
Whenever a cause beckoned, he stepped up to the plate,
Be it fighting AIDS, or helping students, he was always first-rate,
In supporting chamber music, he hit all the right notes,
And helped many a candidate to garner some votes.
Among his avocations, talents and skills,
Was the lobbing of golf balls aloft in the hills,
Ever playing in a fairway, for the good of us all,
And always keeping his eye on the ball.
He was unstinting in his time, giving in both word and in deed,
And never too busy to help someone in need,
For all that he did to improve our lives and careers,
Here’s to you, Bob Dunne! Our heartiest cheers!
In wit and generosity he was second to none.
With boundless caring for every person, dog and cat,
Who among us could have a greater heart than that?

Fond memories
Bob was an incredibly kind, generous, thoughtful soul. He would do anything for a friend. He was very dedicated to social justice, and did what he could to help society through his activities as a member of the Democratic Committee of Richmond County, and as an avid member, and past president, of the Staten Island Democratic Association. He volunteered on the Board of Community Health Action, the Staten Island Chamber Music Players, and the Lathrope Voorspuy Memorial Scholarship Board. When our friend Lathrope passed away (the same weekend as his beloved mother), Bob and I were two of the first volunteers to set up a scholarship in Lathrope's memory. We attended the Chamber Music concerts together, and also visited numerous museums, historic homes, and designer show houses. We often took rides down to the Jersey shore, where Bob would tell me about going to Spring Lake as a child with his parents. When on occasion we would take a ride to Princeton, we would take a look at his old school nearby, at Lawrenceville. Bob was an animal lover, and delighted in telling me how his cat Angel would bring him all these little "gifts" -- dead mice, birds, etc. His great passion was golf, and he never could get enough playing it, watching it on TV, going to the driving range. He would tell me about various golf courses at which he had played, and ones he would love to play.
Bob loved going to fine restaurants, and one of his favorite foods was stuffed artichoke.
