In loving memory of Robert Dennis (Denny) Hodge
Robert Dennis (Denny) Hodge was born on July 5th, 1951, in Marion Ohio. After a courageous battle with cancer, he passed away at home in Batavia, Ohio on July 19th, 2022 with his daughter by his side. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert (Bob) Hodge and Betty Hodge, his brother James (Jim), and sister Melanie. Denny is survived by his three children, Paula (Tony) Elfering, James (Joanna) Hodge, and Kayla (Adam Oswald) Hodge, and his grandchildren, Kara, Caleb, Rachael, Chandler, Isabelle, and Skyler.
Denny was known for being an even tempered, soft-spoken gentleman who was loved by everyone. He might not have much to say, but when he did speak you can be sure it was important and/or funny. Denny’s life began under unique circumstances when he was born (as he recently told his grandson-Chandler), in the back of a 1947 Buick.
Denny was resourceful and determined. On an unexpected snowy day in North Carolina, he wanted to sled, so he and James used Rubbermaid trash can lids as sleds. They sledded down the driveway and into the back yard all day. Denny always said, we should send a video in to Rubbermaid as a marketing idea.
Denny had several hobbies, some of his favorites included watching horror films with Kayla and was a big fan of Westerns. He enjoyed making salsa from vegetables grown in his own garden, playing guitar, and collecting music and sports memorabilia. Denny loved sports especially the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Browns. He and his family spent several summers traveling the country to visit numerous major league baseball stadiums. His favorite stadium was Wrigley field known for its’ world-famous wall of ivy.
Denny’s career was spent primarily at NCR Corporation as a systems analyst. This enabled his family to experience living in several different states including North Carolina, Texas, Florida, and Ohio. He always joked that he never moved within the same climate region. After retirement Denny’s “fun” job was creating sports cards for the APBA game company. After playing APBA games for years, he loved creating the cards and working for APBA so much, it was his dream job! He even logged on to work just a couple days before passing.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations (Robert Hodge) to Hospice of Cincinnati, 4630 Cooper Rd. Cincinnati, OH 45242. https://hospiceofcincinnati.org
Denny’s life will be honored and celebrated with a casual open house/cookout at the home of Kayla and Adam on Saturday, August 6 th from 4:00-7:00 PM. 1167 Creekridge Ct., Batavia, OH 45103.
