Working as an electrical engineer  Robert was a civilian assigned to the   US Navy Ship the USS Carl Vincent.  This self-photo was taken and the following poem, which Robert wrote, was enclosed and sent to me (Philomena) shortly after his assignment.

“Your Quest”

I have looked, and looked, and looked for truth.
But none can be found.

I have looked, and looked, and looked for strength.
But none seems to be.

Where must I search to find the truth?
Of which I’ve only heard.

Where must I go to find the strength?
So few men have found.

 An old man said,
“Your quest is near, no need to travel far.”

 An old man said,
“Look inside yourself. There all is found.”

Now I peer inside myself,
To find the truth and strength.

Now I have found the truth.
And found what strength there is.

As I look inside myself,
I see what I’ve never seen.

As I look inside myself,
I don’t want to see.
