His Life

Robert Lee Marchman was born April 29, 1933 in Hogansville, Georgia. He was the son of McKinley Marchman and Josephine Brown Smith, who proceeded him in death.

He graduated from West End High School in 1950. He made history at West End when he wrote the school song. Robert served in the U.S. Navy for many years. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Robert enrolled in California State University Long Beach from which he received the B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice. He also graduated from the American College of Law.

He married his childhood sweetheart, Annie K. Beasley on July 5, 1980. They lived in Long Beach, California for many years. Robert worked as a billing clerk for Metropolitan Stevedore Company and Marine Terminal Corporation. As retirees, the couple returned home to Hogansville, Georgia in 2006. Robert and his wife joined Wadley Chapel United Methodist Church during the same year. He was dedicated and faithful to Wadley.

Robert was a man of many talents. He owned a business. He was an avid golfer, and a meticulous gardener. He found various ways to create using wood. He used his God-given talent to make wood drawings, stools, picnic tables, and bird houses, just to name a few of his creations. He was a tailor (making many of the pants he wore), and he upholstered furniture.

Robert is survived by his soul mate and love of his life, his wife, Annie Marchman, two stepchildren, Dedra Hanna-Adams (Vance) and Maurice Hanna of Cleveland, OH; his grandson, Aaron Perine of Cleveland, OH; siblings, Thomas Marchman (Lexie) of Shreveport, LA, Maggie Spearman of San Antonio, TX, Frank Brown (Sarah) of Winston-Salem, NC, Mae Belle Morgan of Hogansville GA, Amidah Rashad of Atlanta (deceased), Martha Griffin (James) of Hogansville GA., Allen Smith (Becky) of Ringgold, GA, and Jean Strickland of Hogansville, GA. Additionally, he is survived by his sisters-in law; Rev. Carolynn Cameron, Dorothy Cameron, Lula Mitchell, and Endell Wood and a brother-in-law, Rev. Bernard Cameron. A host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends will have cherished memories of him.
