I cracked up when I learned that Bob's birthday was also "National Pancake Day" -- and imagined the fun we could have had with such a zany co-incidence. He would get such a kick out of it! The goofiness would be relentless, for sure. It makes me sad to miss him, and to miss this juicy opportunity to play with him..

Bob was one of the nicest guys I've ever met. He answered the phone "A pleasant good morning" no matter what time of day it was, and that says a lot about him. I was with him at the end and he told me that he had a great life and was ready to move on, he went to sleep after that and never woke up. A great man who will be missed by all that knew him and loved him.

Ohh how I miss my dad. He was such a pleasant and funny man. I remember he always answered the phone with " Pleasant good morning, nice to hear a cheerful"  any time of day. Not to mention he looked like a garden gnome with his red hat. He was unique, loveable and so good to me....Ohh how I miss you...Love you dad, Robin

What a great tribute to your great dad. I know how much you loved him and took such good care of him. I loved seeing the pictures you posted. He did love that dog. I will light a candle in his memory at church tomorrow.

Ah...what a funny guy was Bob. His laughter - SNORT!//CHORTLE! - was so infectious, and his flair for the ridiculous was so quick and keen, that he could make anybody (even Uncle Roe!) crack up, and defuse any tense situation in a trice. My favorite memory of him is the first time I heard him SING REALLY ENTHUSIASTICALLY! Oh. My. God. He was so lovable.

The first time I came up to you place in Big Bear, I got a double bonus - your Dad and Merlin - it was great fun. I will always be impressed by the character of the man who would open his home to take care of family in such a selfless, generous way. You're the real deal, Jay. Nice tribute, my friend.

There are some men that are just gentle and quiet, but speak without saying anything. This was one of those men.

I will always remember his quiet demeanor and loving heart.

Pappy

December 13, 2012

Pappy  was very special to me…Not only was Pappy my dad, but he was my roommate and best friend.
At the end of 1999 Dad moved out to Oceanside, California with me and we became roommates and In 2003 we moved up to Big Bear Lake. I was blessed to have an opportunity to bond with Pappy and have many fond memories. His favorite saying was: PLEASANT GOOD MORNING …..and he would say that to anyone he talked to anytime of the day….That was his gig…..PLEASANT GOOD MORNING BOB GRAY….!

I have never met anyone as humble, generous and caring as my dad… Merlin our family pet was Pappy’s constant companion and they took their daily walk 3 times a day like clockwork.  Pappy was an avid reader and would burn through 2 to 3 books a week. Summer time he would sit out on the deck, and anyone walking by would end up chatting with Pappy and get the PLEASANT GOOD MORNING BOB GRAY.

Pappy I love you more than you know and miss you every Day….
Thanks for always being there for me and in my corner no matter what I did…
RIP my special friend….Jay
