His Life

What I know about my father

August 8, 2012

Things I know about my Dad.

My father was born in Beekmantown, New York, the fifth of six biological sons of Oliver Peter Fournier and Mary Jane (Jennie) Lucia Fournier, his birth name was Oliver Fredrick Fournier. His mother Jennie died at age 26 and Dad was adopted by Achille Beaulieu and Francis Bellegarde Beaulieu. He was thier only child and they gave him a good life and lots of love.
I know that in his growing up years he was active in boy scouts and that he enjoyed playing hockey, and he loved to read.  Dad loved music and if you stopped by his house on a day when he was home alone the record player would be playing and he would be in his recliner reading a book.
After graduating from High School he enlisted in the Army Air Corp. During WWII, he became a penpal to Pearl Doris Beaulieu.
After the war he came home to Syracuse, New York, where he met his penpal and they married on September 15, 1945. They moved to Michigan were Dad attended the University of Michigan.  They had four children. Eventually, Dad reinlisted in the millitary. He spent his life in the service of his country, serving almost 32 years in the United States Air Force, He served in World War II, the Korean, and the Vietnam wars. Recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service in Southeast Asia and a member of Weston’s Batcats. Dad died on August 23, 2000. Those who knew my Dad remember him for his sense of integrity, for his pride in being an American, and most of all, for the love he had for his family.
