Bob Parsons, love of my life for 50 years, passed away after a long struggle with dementia. It has been my honor to care for Bob on this journey and, though difficult, this became a special part of our lives which deepened our love and commitment to each other.

Farewell services will be private, and Bob's ashes spread at sea in the three places where his life was happiest: San Diego, California; Mazatlan, Mexico and Sechelt, B.C., Canada.
A Celebration of Life open house will be held at Brittany Tower social room on Sunday, February 9, 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
Friends and family are welcome to share stories, photos and memories of a life well lived.

Hi Bev - I was Ron's Secretary for a few years (RD Snyder Yachts dba Fish n'Cruise). Remember that grump ? Ha Ha

BOB would roll up to say "Hi" many times. I loved chatting with him and felt like he was an old friend somehow.

You were blessed my dear ❤️

already 1 year passed ... Jacques Brel, the famous Belgian poet-singer - the greatest for me - in his emotional song "the old people" was singing : " when one is gone, the other ends up in hell .... and the silver pendulum that says yes, that says no ... that says .... I'm waiting for you ! "
I hope this is not the case for Bev ....
Bob, when it is my turn, I hope to meet you and Bev and sail together the ocean of eternity ... Paul "Conan" /Turkey

I met Bob on the 'phone' more than 50 years ago. I've known Bev for about 70 years. We were roommates after university and have been family friends forever. When a 'Captain Bob' from a 'Sugar Shack' called ship-to-shore with a lot of over-and-outs looking for Beverly, I knew she must have been having one heck of a holiday in Mexico!

Within weeks after she returned home, she packed up and moved to Mexico. Within months, there were back in North Vancouver meeting family and friends just days before their wedding. From that first hello in Bev's mom's kitchen, Bob, his mom and family became our family, too.

Bob and Bev have had a magical life together that was so meant-to-be! Over the last 50 years, I'm so glad that we have been able to be a part of it. We have played, laughed, cried and just held hands and enjoyed each others' company from Sechelt to North Vancouver, San Diego to Mexico.

Mostly we would just visit and hang out, but we did have one very special Mazatlan holiday together a couple of years before Bob's passing. With both the 'boys' having health issues, there were some challenges, but lots of tequila and sunshine made it fun. We had fabulous adventures, scrumptious BD dinners and many happy giggles together. It was a lovely holiday with so many new memories to hold in our hearts. I feel so blessed that we were able to share this one last time when we did.

I hesitate here .. I guess I just don't want to say goodbye to my 'Birthday Buddy' knowing that I will never hear him say 'Hi, there, kiddo!' again.

Love and Hugs forever ... Mike and Marilynn

From the San Diego Sheriff's Department

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of former Reserve Lieutenant Robert "Bob" Parsons. Bob passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020. He began his career in 1982 as a Reserve with San Diego Police Department. He joined the Sheriff's Department on January 10, 1990 assigned to the Lemon Grove Station for many years. His last assignment was at Weapons Training Unit where he assisted with various tasks with the Academy and In-Service Training.

Although Bob was a successful Yacht broker, his true passion was with the San Diego Sheriff's Department. Bob always had a smile and was eager to help. He was selfless in his service working many positions and aspects of law enforcement; he was involved in suicide prevention awareness programs and various other volunteer services in the San Diego County region. He retired from the San Diego Sheriff's Department as a Reserve Lieutenant on February 15, 2015. Bob is survived by his wife Beverly. Bob will be greatly missed. A 'Celebration of Life' will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at the Brittany Tower, 230 West Laurel, San Diego 92101 in the Social Room from 2:00pm – 6:00pm.

I didn’t get to have an “Uncle Bob” in my life until I married his niece, and it wasn’t nearly long enough.

The first time I met Uncle Bob he picked me and Charysse up in a large Cadillac with a picture of a 9 mm pistol on the center of his wheels, he may have also been wearing his Sheriffs outfit. I knew at that moment that this wasn’t any ordinary man, this was a character out of Clive Cussler novel, a man of action and adventure. It’s no wonder then that only a few days later I would be on my belly in the SanDiego desert firing an assault rifle under the watchful eye of this same man. However I quickly came to learn that Bob was much more than a sheriffs badge.
Bob was kind and respectful, he was friendly and outgoing and although he may have appeared tough and even gruff I saw him routinely give into the every whim of his niece and without protest. She may have even bullied him a little, and I think he loved it.

Bob had class, he had a type of cool that was unpretentious and approachable, perhaps both of these traits could be because he was and accomplished Banana Flambé chef, no easy feat and not for the faint of heart.
I knew Bob was loved by Aunty Bev the second I saw the two of them together for the first time. I could tell by the way she looked at him, by the way she said his name and by the she talked about him, she always seemed a little smitten.

I loved visiting Bev and Bob in San Diego, and I loved having them in the summers in Gibsons. And sadly those trips were never as frequent as we would have liked.

Uncle Bob quite quickly became my Uncle Bob, I have never met another man like him, and I miss him. I look forward to seeing him again someday and I believe I will.

My uncle Bob was such a special uncle to me. It’s hard to wrap up how I feel about him and convey how much I love him. When I was little he would handcuff my ankles together - which made me feel like he was the coolest uncle ever. When I got to be a teenager he took me for sushi and a movie which showed me how I should be treated on dates. When I was newly married he taught me the importance of recycling (I know that seems like a weird one, but since then it’s become so important to me and my husband Dust and every time we take the recycling out I think of him.) He took me and Dust out to the desert to teach us how to shoot guns which I’ll never forget. Considering uncle Bob wasn’t in my everyday life due to distance, I learned so much from him and felt so loved by him. I miss him so much and I can’t wait to see him again.

Dear Bev,
We’ve talked almost daily since Bob passed away and I am so proud of your strength and courage as you work through this emotional time. As I look back on our times together, I truly cherish all of them especially each and every visit to your lovely home in San Diego. As a young family, each visit was a special treat.  Linda and I will never forget the famous Mazatlan vacation with you and Bob last year. It was perfect!!  Our trip down the Rhine River and not to be forgotten “Las Vegas” were also perfect vacations spent with you and Bob. We had so many good times.  My memories of Bob are numerous with some of the highlights being marlin fishing, salmon fishing, hunting together, and ride along experiences with Sheriff Bob.  The Joint ownership of our Bayliner Trophy was a special highlight as each summer we enjoyed so many adventures together. Dinners on our deck in Gibsons and at Gilligan’s Pub (Bob’s favourite) were always so much fun. We miss Bob very much.  His subtle sense of humour is missed already, but his love and loyalty for you is missed the most.  Bev, thank you for including us in your life.
Your brother and sister,
Al & Linda

Beverly, What a tribute to Bob and yourself last Sunday Feb 9th. People came from far and near to say good bye and support you. I thank you for the opportunity to say a few words and read a poem from Lord Tennyson. Anyone who has traveled by sea up and down the coast of Baja Calif knows the beauty, danger and solitude of being out at sea. That coast is still one of the most isolated in the world and I am so happy that the two of you were able to share the experience especially coming north.
Crossing the Bar
BY ALFRED, LORD TENNYSON
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
   Turns again home.

  Twilight and evening bell,
   And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
   When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

Dear Bev
I just this moment read of Bob's passing. What a truly wonderful and caring man he was and what a beautiful and longlasting love you two shared. I remember the day you told me you were in love! With this sea captain you had met, after you returned home from a holiday in Mazatlan with Carol! How long ago that seems in many ways and yet ,in some ways, how quickly the years have passed. I still have fond memories of that visit we had with you two in SD on our way to work in Guyana in 1974 - when Suzy was just 2. and I love the photo I have of Bob hugging Suzy on the beach. I am going to try to add a few photos of that visit.
We haven't seen a lot of each other over the years. So happy you made that visit to Bowen a few years back.  I am so saddened for you. Please stay in touch and tell me when you plan to come to Sechelt. I will be thinking of you and Bob on February 9.
much love and hugs, my friend

I met Bob in 1969 when he and Beverly were newlyweds in Cabo San Lucas.
Bob was captain of the only big yacht there. When he was taking a smaller sport fisher up to San Diego, I was along as one of his two crew members.
Bob was older and vastly more experienced than I. I was a young free spirit sort. Never did Bob treat me in any disrespectful way and was always fair with me and a great teacher. I greatly appreciate the time I had with him and will always remember him fondly.

Warm-hearted
Charismatic
Open-minded
Full of love
Great sense of humour
A fantastic couple
Looking like movie stars
(and lots more ...)

These were my feelings when we first met in 1992. These feelings are still equally true for Bev and Bob.
And you acknowledged this every time we met since then.
You opened your home and hearts to me (and many others) every time I was around.

There are so many happy memories that we share...
Beautiful places we have been to - San Diego, Los Angeles, Tijuana, Sechelt, the Ocean, ...

We laughed so much. Sometimes we were barely able to stop laughing...

We enjoyed so much... the exquisite first class cuisine of Bev, the steaks and sweet potatoes of Bob, delicious Margaritas... I still use the same recipe Bob taught me 28 years ago.

It made me so happy and proud when Bob said “You are family.” And I could feel you really meant it.

Sunny is also grateful that she had the privilege of meeting Bob during two of our vacations.
Even though she only met you much later, she got to know you as a wonderful, charming, humorous and amazing person and will forever cherish our precious memories of you.

We won't forget your smile, Bob. You will always be in our hearts.

Keep on living your dreams, Bev! Keep on sailing, Bob!

We love you
Frank and Sunny

Oh Bev....We have given lots of thought to the years we shared with you and Bob. From the love of boating, some serious party nights, ballroom dancing, Christmas celebrations, life as a yacht broker and days of law enforsement. There was never a moment that we did not draw enjoyment in all these areas of life. These experiences will live on in our hearts as long as we live.

Dear Auntie Bev,

Uncle Bob is one of the great characters of our lives. His persona will remain larger than life in our hearts and minds forever.

We all have so many memories but a few of my favorites are: Uncle Bob making all the ladies at my wedding swoon with his dancing skills, Banana's flambe, Old Town, having you both at the Hospital when Royal was born and having drinks on the boat in the driveway of the Sechelt house to say "sail on" to his beloved boat.

We love you so much, can't wait to hug you in person.

Love Darcy

Dear Bev.

My deepest condolences. May God Bless You and Bob. I had the pleasure of meeting you and Bob thru Betty and before we met she spoke very highly of you, and your Love for each other, She was not exaggerating, Betty loved working out with Bob, she saw him improved, and would come home talking about his physical and muscle development. My mom enjoyed him a lot too, playing his music, talking about his days in the ocean and about his cat. I was very fortunate to spend the las two 4th of July with booth you, and I am witness of your love and respect for each other, the last one was in your condo with the view of SD and many firework stations. I will never forget it. Very Sorry for your loss, God bless.

Being on the other side of the world, unfortunately I never had the chance to meet Bob, but throughout all the years of our friendship I knew how deeply devoted you were to each other and it was such an inspiration. My heart goes out to you and may Bob rest in peace.

God speed Bob. We will all be there to join you sooner rather then later. Beverly is holding up well. She has lots of support and thank God this was no surprise so many got to say their goodbyes, dear friend.
My youngest son is on his way to Oz and I am using flight tracker to watch his 15 hour flight make it's way across the Pacific Ocean. Seems like a crawl across an ocean that as a submariner and a yacht Captain you spent so much time on. Both of us loved the water and the journeys to get to our destination. My desktop shows a beautiful heaven with thousands of stars and I pray you are out exploring those heavens and instead of a crawl you are there in an instant. God knows your life quest for knowledge was immense and sure you are now getting your fill.
Bob from baseball games to great dinners we had many a wonderful time. You were a class act at Soroptimist events dressed to the nines with a huge smile. While we dined on occasion with the brides my great treat was dinners with each other at restaurants that had to be over 50 years old. We never got through the list before there was a problem with you being able to participate. It was a great way to really get to know each other.
Adios dear Bob while you may be gone you will never be out of mind.

He stayed as strong as he could for so long. And you, Beverly....Words cannot even express the loving care you gave to him right up to the end. Jim and I admire you so much. We are so blessed to be able to call you both our friends. Bob will always be remembered. May he rest in peace.

Forever loved!!! Forever grateful!!!
Bobby was the skipper on my parents yachts when I was a teen. He became family to me. He taught me how to deep sea fish for marlin and sail and albacore. We cruised the seas from San Diego to Acapulco. In Mazatlan, he met Beverly, and our yacht, the Shady Lady, became the love boat. Oh we had adventurous times in Cabo 1970s and small inlet of Yelapa when few were there.
And the delicious bananas flambé he would cook while onboard.
My heart goes out to you Bev! 50 years of the best love story ever lived!!! Bravo!!! sending you love forever! ❤️

His Life
January 23, 2020
FAMILY
Bob is survived by his wife, Beverly, sister Sherrie, brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Linda, Daniel Parsons, nieces and nephews Diana, Cynthia, Michael, Corey, Chelsea and Charysse and their extended families. "Little sister" Terry and Kandis are part of his "adopted" family.

In addition to family, Bob opened his home, heart, and support to Frank from Germany, David and Nadja from Slovenia, Musa from Turkey, and Augustus from Liberia.

LIFE AND CAREERS
Bob joined the Navy at age 17.  His submarine service took him throughout the Pacific, Asia, and beyond.  Once back in San Diego he continued to serve as an electronics instructor.

After 10 years in the military, Bob began a second career as yacht captain, traveling to Mexico, where he met Beverly.  Together they chartered and worked aboard private yachts for 5 years along the West Coast. Later he accepted a position as Captain and navigator aboard a long range tuna boat.

The long separation proved to be too much and Bob joined Beverly at Fraser Yachts in 1980 as a yacht and insurance broker.  He was the first in the company to purchase a computer and spent hours coaxing Beverly and other colleagues into the computer age.  Bob and Bev were a successful team again, creating Interpac Yachts (under Fraser and Driscoll Yachts), and finally branched out on their own.  Many of Bob's clients became lifelong friends, which pays tribute to the honesty and integrity he brought to the office each day.

VOLUNTEER AND PUBLIC SERVICE
In 1982, Bob attended the San Diego Police Academy, marking the start of more than 30 years of volunteer public service to the city.  His walls, shelves, cupboards, and drawers are filled with awards, plaques, and certificates of appreciation recognizing his service with the SD Police Department, the SD Sheriff Department, Sheriff's Weapons Training Unit, SD Sheriff Museum, and as a SD county Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper.

Bob continued to work, study, learn and teach until dementia stole his knowledge from him.

LIFE TO THE FULLEST (by Beverly)
Throughout our marriage, Bob never lost his appetite for learning.  Most early mornings would find him studying something totally boring (to my eyes) like insurance, law, electronics, mechanics. etc.  He could fix anything -- even a camera I once dropped in a swimming pool! He built our first TV, upgraded our Sechelt home, and always had mechanical or electronic projects going. And, yet, this "man's man" could be found gently tending the dozen or so orchids he kept for years.

He enjoyed entertaining his guests with a flourish, whipping up tableside Caesar Salad or Bananas Flambe, and was known for special Margaritas and weekend frothy Cappuccinos from his beloved copper and brass espresso machine. He had a soft spot for all animals, was a great ski companion, and amazing ballroom and Latin dance partner. Summers in Sechelt fishing and exploring the Sunshine Coast in his 24' Trophy Bayliner with Canadian family were among his favorite memories.

He was a man who never stopped learning something new and always strove to do it right.  And as a husband, he always encouraged and supported me to follow my dreams.

MISSING YOU AT CHRISTMAS ...

Niece Chelsea described my feelings perfectly in a quote today ...

“I’ve got plenty of people I can do something with - just no one I can do nothing with"

CAREER COMMENTS - WOW!

November 16, 2021
In the late 1970s, Bobby made the decision to leave his career as yacht captain and pursue a new profession.

At that time I suggested he sit down and write his thoughts and goals. I just found that original list and could not believe what I read:

1. Freedom Personal/Business
2. Responsibility
3. Location (15 minutes travel max)
4. Boating Industry
5. Consulting
6. Teaching/Public Speaking
7. Good Income
8. Self Employment
9. Being in Charge

Wow! All those years ago, Bobby was able to define his life and career goals, managed to stay focused on his dreams, and take the initiative to make them happen. He studied constantly, always wanting to learn something new and challenge himself.

In the next four decades Bob became a regarded yacht broker, consultant on new boat construction, and successful in the field of marine insurance.

In his volunteer service with the SD Police Department, the SD Sheriff Department, Sheriff's Weapons Training Unit, and as a SD county Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper, Bobby continued to learn, teach, and become a significant contributor to the San Diego community.

I still miss him every day but find comfort in knowing he really did realize his dreams and accomplish the goals he set for himself so long ago.

SEPTEMBER 26, 2021 - POROS ISLAND, GREECE

October 12, 2021
Today is our wedding anniversary and I am in Poros remembering the accidental visit we had to this lovely island. I asked the hotel for "our" room, the room where we watched the waiters in the restaurant below dancing with ouzo and candles on their heads. The restaurant is gone but the memories so vivid they make my heart hurt.
I am on board with a Canadian Greek friend who met her late husband here on Poros ... she spread his ashes in "their" bay and returns each year as I will return to Sechelt.
This is part of a poem she shared with me last year ...
"To the living, I am gone.
To the sorrowful, I will never return.
But to the happy, I am at peace,
And to the faithful, I have never left.
I cannot be seen, but I can be heard.
So as you stand upon a shore, gazing at a beautiful sea – remember me.
Remember me in your heart, your thoughts, your memories of the times we loved, the times we cried, the times we fought, the times we laughed. For if you always think of me, I will never be gone."
I lit a candle for you in a beautiful small church we discovered on a walk.
