I met Bob on the 'phone' more than 50 years ago. I've known Bev for about 70 years. We were roommates after university and have been family friends forever. When a 'Captain Bob' from a 'Sugar Shack' called ship-to-shore with a lot of over-and-outs looking for Beverly, I knew she must have been having one heck of a holiday in Mexico!
Within weeks after she returned home, she packed up and moved to Mexico. Within months, there were back in North Vancouver meeting family and friends just days before their wedding. From that first hello in Bev's mom's kitchen, Bob, his mom and family became our family, too.
Bob and Bev have had a magical life together that was so meant-to-be! Over the last 50 years, I'm so glad that we have been able to be a part of it. We have played, laughed, cried and just held hands and enjoyed each others' company from Sechelt to North Vancouver, San Diego to Mexico.
Mostly we would just visit and hang out, but we did have one very special Mazatlan holiday together a couple of years before Bob's passing. With both the 'boys' having health issues, there were some challenges, but lots of tequila and sunshine made it fun. We had fabulous adventures, scrumptious BD dinners and many happy giggles together. It was a lovely holiday with so many new memories to hold in our hearts. I feel so blessed that we were able to share this one last time when we did.
I hesitate here .. I guess I just don't want to say goodbye to my 'Birthday Buddy' knowing that I will never hear him say 'Hi, there, kiddo!' again.
Love and Hugs forever ... Mike and Marilynn
