Bob Wallace was born in Dallas, Texas to Marie Pope Wallace and William F. Wallace. He grew up in Dallas and Corpus Christi, graduating from Corpus Christi High School. He attended Schreiner College and then joined the Army Air Corps. After the end of World War II he went to the University of Texas where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi. He graduated with a Law Degree and joined his brother in the practice of law in Corpus Christi as the youngest lawyer in the state of Texas. After a few years he decided to leave the law practice and join his father in finance. He took master’s courses at Wharton and graduated from the Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers. He served as president of United Savings in Corpus Christi for many years and negotiated a merger with Southwestern Group Financial in Houston. He spent a number of years subsequently working for this holding company.

His true passions were his family and working in the community. His wife, children and friends remember his kind heart and generous nature. Over the years he served as President of the Corpus Christi Symphony Society, the Corpus Christi Town Club, the Corpus Christi Navy League, the Texas Savings and Loan League, The Beachcombers, and was a member of the Kings Men. He was President of the Art Museum of South Texas during the construction of its new Museum, and was a co-founder of the Public Radio and Television stations, KEDT. He served as Chairman and Chairman Emeritus of KEDT for over 30 years. He also served two terms on the national Board of Directors of PBS. Always congenial and enthusiastic he enjoyed golf, tennis, hunting and fly fishing with his family and many friends.

Bob opted to move to San Antonio at the invitation of his son David “to babysit” and to be closer to his medical support.
