Bob the Sunday School Teacher

January 27, 2018

Bob was my Sunday School teacher at the Venice Santa Monica Church on the west side of Los Angeles in the earluy 70's.  These were my Jr. High School days.  My time with him was only a few short years before he moved to Moorpark, but I can still feel his presence and am sad that I didn't get to see him again before he passed.

He had a VW bug.  He nicknamed it "Tosh".  I don't remember why.  I remember he gave me my first lesson driving a manual stick shift car.  I have vivid memories of him teaching me to feel the friction point on the clutch.  I remember him showing me the engine and pointing out how small the battery is.

I remember he played racket ball a lot with Pastor Omaye.  I seem to remember that after a few of the matches he would mention the aches and pains he had.

I do remember him being a history teacher.  I remember he would blurt out some random historical fact for those around him to learn (as any good teacher would) I remember him having a voice.  Loud meaning that he projected a strength of conviction and confidence. I can imagine that if you were a student of his, you wouldn't want to mess with him.  But that being said, he had the heart of a Teddy Bear.

I remember when Debbie had her transplant at UCSF and the trips they made to the SF bay area.  I thought it was amazing she was getting a transplant and her sister (?) was the donor.

Bob and Debbie were amazing people and seems like they had amazing lives after my time with them.  Though I have a sense of sadness of just finding out they both pass years ago, I'm grateful for the time I had with them.

I don't know if anyone will read this, but I just felled compelled to share a few memories
