Leave a tributeHe was a brave and serious soldier always willing to go further for his fellows. Pussycat had a sense of humour and mischief which was a delight to witness. He was a softy at heart and carried the scars of of what he'd witnessed.
His charm was unequalled and he is sorely missed.
I often think of you.

Private Day enlisted in the New Zealand Army on 2nd September 1968 and was posted to the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment.
He was posted to Victor Company in Malaysia in May 1969 and arrived in South Vietnam with Victor Five Company in May 1970.
On 18th June 1970 during Operation “Cung Chung” Private Day was on patrol with 2 Platoon, Victor Five Company acting as the platoon medical orderly. At approximately 0750 hours, while engaged in a reconnaissance of an enemy camp the platoon received several casualties from a command detonated 105mm shell. At the same time the platoon came under heavy small arms fire and further casualties occurred. Private Day calmly moved among the wounded and gave medical assistance. In an attempt to reach the most badly wounded soldier who was located only 10 metres from the enemy position, Private Day moved to one side of the platoon, and completely disregarding intense enemy fire, rendered assistance to the
wounded man. At this stage the platoon withdrew approximately 50 yards and Private Day was left alone with the wounded man. At a distance of 10 metres from the enemy, Private Day continued to assist and comfort the wounded soldier and at the same time fire his own rifle at the enemy, until the platoon was able to move forward again. Private Day, by his unselfish action in tending casualties under heavy fire and in deciding to remain with his patient, instead of withdrawing to safety with the platoon, put his life in mortal danger. His devotion to duty is a credit to himself, his Regiment, the New Zealand Army. (and his Family)
2 NZ soldiers were KIA & 5 NZ soldiers were seriously WIA. Bob saved the life of many, no just the one mentioned. Lest we Forget
and respect, for all involved. The war left scars on your heart, which eventually, were too much for you to bear. I am always with you, now, forever, and always. I chose the sky background, as we used to lay on my trampoline, on our days together, gazing at the clouds, explaining animals & objects we could both see. Fur Elise is the song on my wind up grammophone you gave me as a child. I cannot believe how alike we both are. It has never been a concious gift, but rather an unconscious gift, I inherited from my Daddy. We both love music, life, smiling, and making others smile. The compassion you taught me, transcends time, life, and death. The best twelve years of my life- have been spent with you, and mum. Never leave our sides. You are one of many candles, that will shine on forever, in a sometimes dim world. With you now, and for eternity, (sorry, you're stuck with me ;-)) ....Your ever loving daughter, Jasmine ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

The Nail Tree
As a very young child, my Dad and I would visit the park near my house. My Dad and I would often climb into the largest, most beautiful tree in the Park, which provided a lot of shade. My Father taught me, from a young age, that it was not okay to be destructive. The Tree I loved the most, which we always sat in, had been almost destroyed. Some sad person had used a nail gun to pin nails at all angles all over the inside of the tree. My Dad explained that the person who had done this, was not only cruel, but had no sense of right and wrong. The tree kept growing, and life went on. I lost my Dad, but ever since that day, when he was honest with me, I realised, love never dies, no matter how bad the pain is.
