His Life

Son, brother, husband, father and grandfather

October 20, 2016

Bob Hogan was born in Seattle Washington and raised in Bellevue by Elmer “ER” Robert and Nora Hogan who were both amateur painters and mountaineers.  Bob had many memories of his early life with his sister Ann Rock and how they were one of the first to live on 13th Avenue in Bellevue’s Clyde Hill, residing in their garage for two years while his father built the family home.  The Hogan family came from a long history of Norwegian fishing traditions, with his Grandfather being captain and ship owner of the La Paloma in the early days of Seattle Fisherman’s Terminal.  Bob’s father “ER” was an engineer on the Grand Coulee Dam and later patented some of his engineering work while in service with Boeing.

Bob graduated from Bellevue High in 1960 and enjoyed playing basketball and football for the Wolverines.  He remained a devoted fan his whole life to Bellevue High and the University of Washington Huskies.  He often recalled the year he attended school in  Mexico City along with friend Mike Reid, then finishing his business degree at Seattle University.  Bob served honorably in the US Coast Guard from 1966 to 1968.

Bob was on the pioneering front of business telephone technology in the early 1970’s.  This all came after the FCC lifted the sanctions and stopped the monopoly of the larger phone companies.  Being an entrepreneur at heart, this led him to building medium sized private telecom companies, then merging or selling them to larger stake holders.

Bob was happiest with family and friends in and around boating the waterways of Washington and Canada, and his biggest thrill was piloting boats, reading about WWII fighter planes and fishing along the Great Northwest Coast.

Bob is survived by his wife of 34 years Linda Hogan; sister Ann Rock; daughter Heather Hogan; son Rick Barger and his wife Aly and their three boys Evan, Shaun and Cameron; son Brady Hogan and wife Jennifer and their son Robert “RJ” Hogan.

We will miss him more than words can say.
