Robert Wilson Hall proudly served his country in the US Army from January 27, 1943 to February 12, 1946. He arrived at Fort Lawton, Seattle, Washington, the middle of August 1945 and left Puget Sound for overseas on Sept. 1st, 1945. The ship was a "Liberty" ship, the S.S. Sacajawea. The crew was merchant marines with a few navy gunners and radiomen. His outfit, was comprised of a Company of Engineers, a Quartermaster Company and another Air Corps outfit, in all about 950 men. About 6 days out on sea, they were ordered to return to base. Japan had signed a formal surrender document on September 2, 1945.
